State regulators said Monday that they intend to revoke the license of a Salem nurse after she failed to get emergency treatment for a mentally disabled man in time to save his life.

Registered nurse Anne Christopherson passed up opportunities to call 9-1-1 or take the seriously ill man to a nearby emergency room, according to records obtained by The Oregonian. He died in a parked car while Christopherson sat in her office using Google to get directions to a hospital 26 miles away.

The death of Ralph Hayes, 59, exposes continuing confusion about emergency procedures and gaps in employment screening at state-regulated homes for adults with mental and developmental disabilities.

I agree but unfortunately the internet is creating a generation of people who need to Google their way out of a paper bag. I have myself fallen into a trap where I needed directions to someplace and the internet dsl line was down and I had to panic to find a real paper map to look up the directions...

Moral of the story don't become too reliant on the internet.

This is not only an internet issue, how many phone numbers do you know without looking at your phonebook?

Remember before cell phones how our memory could actually store tens of numbers...now we devolving to none.

You are right Pete. I remember my first mobile phone. I was
one of those Sony jobs with the flick up mouth piece. It had
no screen so I had to either remember the numbers or look up
my note book.

I still remember the (landline) phone numbers of some clas mates back in primary school - but I'm not sure what my own landline phone number is now. I used to be pretty good at remembering numbers (after all my major was history and had to remember hundreds if not thousands of dates) but cell phones (and computers) make one's memory lazy.

I can still remember my home number when we lived in Texas and I was 8. I also remember my first credit card number... glad I don't use those evil things anymore.
