      Not impossible, but a completly different approach.

      Is there a renderer that 'respects' a pure Sketchup section ?

      Here is just another 'Section' plugin

      This is a BETA version. I'm still working on this plugin. Backwards compatibility not granted.

      Documentation :RichSection doc (V0.4.6)

      To generate a 'RichSection', the model must be composed of Groups or Component(instances).
      Elements don't have to be solid, but only closed sections will generate section-materials.

      Using nested groups (or components) will speed up calculation if the geometrical limits exclude then from the calculation process. For instance : if the ground-floor (group A) and upper floor (group B) are in separate groups, a horizonal section through the upper floor will exclude all elements of group A, For a horizontal section through A, B will only be controlled for projection.
      Exclude hi-poly elements if possible : place them in a separate layer; create a scene in which those layers are 'off'; use 'layers to section/project' by 'scene' to exclude those elements from calculation.

      For the french SU: Si la version de SU est française, elle chargera RichSection en français.
      For the rest of the world, are there traductors on this forum for other languages

      It must be possible to create something simular with a SU plugin
      Like in SketchyPhysics, components can represent degrees of freedom.
      A SU plugin can be much more compact. Almost nothing is needed for the interface (graphics....).
      But the analysis is not simple...

      I found out that a section parallel to the red-blue axises doesn't work.

      Hallo everybody, here is my second (public) plugin.
      The plugin gives me an other way of making plans. Especially in those cases where a 3d model is complete. Shadows in Sketchup plans are not very natural. The sun enters by the cutted part of the model. This way of making the section preserves the realistic shadows:
      SketchupSection - SectionByCamera - RenderedSectionByCamera (Twilight + Kerkythea) : CLICK ON IT TO SEE THE COMPLETE IMAGE

      In this file, the image has been combined with vector-drawing (Powerdraft):
      Rendered SectionByCamera (Twilight + Kerkythea)

      It works also on Mac. Thanks Peter (pbacot) for testing.

      For the SketchupTeam : realistic shadows in sections (plan en vertical section) is in my wish list.

      This tool places the camera in (near) the sectionplan. The parallel view will section the model (without section cuts active). But the SHADOWS of the entire model will be displayed (if section cuts are switched off). This will produce a plan or section view with realistic shadow information.

      The camera-position is saved in a new scene called "SectByCam"
      The generated camera should also work with those renderers :

      • Twilight : OK
      • Kerkythea, with Twilight exporter
      • SU2KT from Tomasz : The camera is moved, outside the model : Doesn't work.
      • Maxwell : shadows not correct, shadows of 'ceilings' are missing. Thanks Peter (pbacot) for testing .

      Installation :

      • unzip and copy the unique file into the plugins directory

      Usage :

      • select a section plan
      • in the context menu : select 'Section by camera' > '.... automatic'
        or 'Section by camera' > '.... define camera distance'
      • switch off the 'section planes' and 'section cuts' (Menu : View >> Section...)

      Known issues:
      The image rendered on the screen is cutted some centimeters before the camera. The distance between this 'cut' and the camera depends of the dimensions of the model. The tools estimates this distance (in '.... automatic'; distance proposed in '.... define camera distance'), if necessary, it can be adapted in the second option.
      If the applied value is to small, the SectionPlane won't be visible after activating the tool. This is also true for faces generated by plugins like SectionCutFace (TIG) or realSection (GWydouw).
      SOLUTION : apply a greater distance in '.... define camera distance'

      I made a little plugin for randomizing texture positions,
      It modifies all selected faces, including faces nested in groups

      (it only works in Sketchup 7 and 8, i have still to tweek it for older versions)

      Hi, i'm just starting in ruby.

      I'm making a script that combines automatic sectionmaterials and projected information on the sectionplane (like beams represented by pointed lines in architectural drawings).

      Is there a way to activate an existing sectionplane in ruby ?
