Mmmm.... interesting! I'LL chech this tomorrow morning! Thanks!!!
When you place a DWG or DXF in layout it won't be used a reference file, it will be embeded. However if you import a DWG or DXF file as a Sketchup Model Reference (check the tick box while importing), the DWG or DXF file will be translate to a *.skp file which CAN be used as a reference. SO...if you can export the scenes from your model to flat (2d) *.skp file Layout will be be or remain snappy and fast...let's say useable! So if a plan changes I just exported the scenes again and my entire Layout plan is updated!!!
Okay, just had to send a plan yesterday night of a quit complex building where I've to make a interior design for. Made all the the changes the client asked for and then I exported the scene with a section plan to Layout....and yes, again...I wanted to dimension the plan and it took ages...really aaaages to make one dimension. Ages! And yes, I've read all the forums, used all the tips (raster view, low quality, fast styles, clean up you model etc etc). It's just crap! I first thought it was the complexity of the model, but I found out that when I turned of the section plane everything was snappy and fast as hell again! So people don't use section planes! ) Then I used the the tip of Dave R to export a scene as a 2d image to DWG and import it as an Sketchup reference...this works like a charm. BUT the reference that is made by Layout has nothing to do with the model itself. So if you updat the model the reference file wont't be updated. This can be solved if you can export a scene to a 2d *.skp image. It makes the scene flat and works GREAT in Layout.
Does someone know (probably I am stupid) if there's a plugin to export the scene form SU to a (flat) *.skp file?
Thanks so much...if there's a solution this will be my best Christmas ever!
Pep
Yes, sorry, the ticking box...
Thanks!
No! He left that open...;( But you're way of importing the DWG works as well....Didn't know that. Thanks so much Dave!
Oh! Thanks Dave! Superb! The gif is sweet!
But how can it be that the one in the Youtube clip can import a DWG an instant fill the section plane with a pattern? Without glueing or anything?
Hi Dave,
No I'm using the latest version! It's just a very simple model(please see all files attached) that I want to export with a section plane. If you can check it, I'm very grateful!
Thanks!
Hi All,
I've have question that I can't solve...In this clip on Youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2t9XiXpvoyE ....at 36:57, the instructor imports a DWG and fills the walls with a pattern. I've tested it by myself and nothing happens. It stays blank...only the lineweight changes. I've tried different dwg export within Sketchup, but nothing seems to work. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!
Pep
Layout really needs to become snappier. Workflow then will be perfect, no other programs needed then. For me it is still a mystery how Nick Sonders can work with it that way.
Hey Whaat...when click on the full-screen button in the window(square button) it's fully visible...and when I reopen the dialaog it's okay again (??!). Well fixed. Sorry to have you bothered!!! Feel like a noob now! Thanks!!!
Thanks for you replies! Scaling is set to 100% (I've a 2560x1440 screen). When I drag the window and try to scale it the upper folder names stay hidden...that's doesn't do anything. I'v tried a lot to solve this however...
I'm having an issue with Profile Builder which is very annoying. When browsing in profile folders I can't see their names in the upper row. Can I change this? Is there a solution?
Thanks!
I was wondering if someone can tell me where the sliders are on the visual tool in ThruPaint? I used to scale(non uniform) textures in U and V direction seperately but cannot right now. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!
Layout needs to speed up! It is so laggy and sluggish (Core I7 3.5ghz/GTX 1080).
Please add Material NAMES in the materials list!!! Now you've to hoover over to see its name. I can't believe that they still haven't done so.
