RE: Google Sketchup Pro 7 is out
It seems most people just really wanted High-Poly and Multi-Core. Better modeling will just let these whiz-kidz max-out their models a little faster.

I think the best and most capable modeler to look at is modo (http://www.luxology.com).
Scottthank you for the info Scott.
As for your tagline... it looks from your avatar, you've accomplished enough to live for awhile. Certainly good cause to.

owns the color blue?
No, but they have been releasing the computers with desktops set to similar shades of blue abstract image, and displaying the same in advertisements for years. I think Leopard is now advertised with some scene of the cosmos (of which they do own a controlling share

RE: Preview of Windows 7
Once again following Apple, down to the default blue desktop background. First few pictures are more like Mac, then the picture of the directory looks like old Windows (98?) again. However the 3d view of "libraries" is innovative. Gadgets on the desktop?--hopefully they hide with a hot key (like Apple Dashboard)

RE: A new physics game challenge
Thought I would give it a try before bed. NEVERMIND how late I stayed awake without knowing.
I was VERY pleased with myself when I realized the only way to beat the falling ball was to build a trebuchet. Also it took me a while to figure out there were solutions not using the wheels at all. Failed at getting the several balls across a pit.I'm staying away from it nevetheless.

RE: Export workaround?
Great illustration by the way. Shows how good SU can be without rendering etc. You might put it in the gallery
I don't know if this is related, but I tried to get a good direct SU picture for awhile until I figured out exporting with .png (on a Mac) at higher resolution made all the difference--much better than printing directly. I was surprised this is even necessary and never discussed. In your case for layout, I guess you found something similar. LO is still Beta, so there's some excuse.

RE: Wine tasting...
Sonoma has many small wineries. Cabernet Sauvignons, Chardonnays, Zinfandels, Pinot Noir. Depends what you like. I like the reds here. Random Ridge Winery has a good Cab. You can probably find a few dealers online that specialize in this area (where I live).

RE: [TUTORIAL]: texturing organic form (subsmooth)
This is amazing. I never saw displacement like this before. Not that I have experience rendering. But I can use the texturing technique right away. Thanks for posting so people like me can get "edicated"! B

RE: Podium...house on the Bay
Is this a podium render? I like how it looks like a table top model. Very neat and clean. I hope you can show us some more.

RE: Walkable commercial center
"Bad", the pun?
Well the concept is not new, but ignored too often. This center would be near to homes and have a pedestrian connection to the community?
Great picture. Some detail (windows?) for the shops would be nice. I like the connection of the different spaces. We have an outdoor mall like this near us. It is too disconnected and is more of a bleak atmosphere of alleyways, especially on cold windy days.
Another walkable and very popular center is our downtown which is a traditional square with a large park in the center. It's nice to have the whole place connected visually and physically. Thanks for posting, look forward to more.

RE: I guess we can just give up on ver 7
I have been much more disappointed by other SW companies. Keep the faith. If SU were thrown over tomorrow you'd still have a great ride for awhile. I bought some modeling software at MacWorld (with FREE UPGRADE!) only to have them close the development soon after--without telling anyone for years--still selling the old thing. I am very saddened by my current CAD package, which the developers seem to be intent on killing slowly, with slow and lackluster (kind characterization) version releases.
Aside--news: Amex is becoming a bank so it can get a piece of the bail-out pie. Hmmm, maybe I should become a bank.

RE: Remeberance Day
I don't believe it is properly impressed on the youth in the US. Although a Scout, I only have vague memories of such events as a child, some flag ceremonies or parades. I think it became uncool, considered militaristic or "pro-establishment" during the Viet Nam era, which is silly. The Viet Nam Memorial was a key to helping people understand "service" in the US. You appreciate these things more as you mature. Yes, it's a bank holiday and many offices are closed.

RE: A couple new Kerkythea renderings.
Great renders. I love seeing a nice sunny room for once, but there's much more. Neat colors and designs.

RE: Still playing with SubSmooth
er may a newbie interject? What is the meaning of "proxy" in this context? Why is it useful?
Cool work BTW!

RE: Help- how can i draw this 3D (water drop)
Voder,
Your excellent example gave me an idea. Wouldn't it be great to have a ruby to do the first part of your example. It seems logical enough. Two shapes: divide the first one in sections. Create a scaled slice with the second shape... Could this be done. It could even skin it for you afterwards.

Pb what book was it you read of the discworld series, terry's humour is a little bit off beat i suppose but I love it, "rincewind" the wizard is bloody brilliant, a survivor if ever there was one. Nanny Ogg, Mistress weatherwax and Magrat the witches are excellent too, as are the nac mac feegle, who think if it is bigger than them , fight it and at 6" tall everything is bigger than them...

I read Soul Music. It was fun and diverting.
