RE: Split / Cut An Object From An Object
Thanks... i've tried that but it's impossible to select all the edges and lines of the wall without selecting the other wall.
The second wall was originally created by pulling out from the other wall.
I have loads of these walls that i now need to separate

RE: Split / Cut An Object From An Object
Thanks guys.
For example, how can i separate these two walls as separate groups easily without having to re-draw.

RE: Split / Cut An Object From An Object
Thank you Dave.
How would i go about taking once complete centerpiece out of the long rectangular box.
For example, let's say it is 1200m long X 200m wide X 200m high - how would i take a 400m X 200m X 200m box out of the center of that?

Split / Cut An Object From An Object
Hello, is it possible to cut part of an object out from another object.
For example, lets say i had a long rectangular box and i wanted to cut (not delete) part of it out as another component or group... is that possible?

RE: Section Plane A Group
Ok thank you. There seems to be a lot of different ways to accomplish it, so i'm just trying to find out what the best practice is.

RE: Section Plane A Group
Thank you Dave. Can you clarify what you mean?
Do you think using active cuts is a better method, or should you just apply a section plane to each scene (one flattening the object and another one not)?

RE: Section Plane A Group
Ok great thanks. Can i ask you another question.
I've seen two different ways to apply animation using the Section Plane.
A - create a section plane and flatten the object / group and save that as Scene 01, then create another section plane and drag the object / group and save that as scene 02
B - create and apply two section planes to the object, one top and one low and apply active cuts
Which option is a better option to use / best practice?

Section Plane A Group
Hello,
I spent a lot of time yesterday trying to learn the different ways to use the Section Plane.
Is it possible to just Section Plane through a Group instead of your full model?

Excellent, thanks for your help Dave.

Scene & Styles Warning Options
Hello,
I've come across the warning below a lot lately (i'm trying to get my head around Scenes).
It probably confuses me because i don't recall making any changes to my Style.
For example, if i open my file, and try to create my first Scene, i get the following warning?
How can i have made any changes to my Style if i have just literaly opened my file?
Also what does each of the 3 options actually do, as i don't want to mess my model up - thank you.

Thanks a million for this guys, this helps a lot, i'll try what you said too JQL, thanks you.

RE: Flatten / Merge A Large Component
I brought in a Crane from Component Warehouse, and i deleted it because my model was getting really slow.
My filesize was 1.5mb without the crane, and it went up to 14.5mb when i brought the crane in, however even though i have deleted the crane, my model is still 14.5mb
Do i need to delete it from some memory area or something else. The crane is not showing in Outliner or in my model but for some reason my filesize is still 14.5mb

Flatten / Merge A Large Component
Hi, i know i am using the wrong terminology here, so please bare with me
I have just imported a Crane from the Component Warehouse, which has made by model size quite big and the model has slowed down considerably.
Is it possible to merge all of the geometry in the component to one merged object, so that it cannot be edited again, thus making the file smaller. Thanks in advance.

Material Flicker & Distort
Hi,
My model consists of several car park spaces (components). I've shaded my component a dark grey, however when i Orbit my model, the cap parks spaces (component) flicker and distort badly.
As you can see below, the spaces even distort when looking at them from a stand still.
Can anyone suggest what could be wrong? Thanks in advance.

Ok great, thanks... maybe i am trying to be too organised, thanks.

When To Use Components VS Groups
Hello, i am in the process of building my first model, which is getting quite large now.
I have tried to keep everything as organised as possible using groups and components.
However, i am a little confused with one thing.
If i draw a small object such as a box, should i be converting that to a group or a component?
Lets say i am not planning on re-using that box object again later, (however i might re-use it), it feels wrong that i should convert it to a group as then i need to put that group (box object) inside a parent group to keep everything organised.
If i convert it to a component, then i might copy it later and make an adjustment which will then mess up the original component (unless i make it unique).
I feel like groups are like folders, and components are like objects we put into groups.
It feels weird that i should convert something to a group, and then place it in a group (folder).
So, what is the best practice to convert a small object to? Thank you for your help.
