Building Extension
-
Hello,
I am working on creating a model for a building extension.
I want to build a model of the current building as it stands now, and then i want to show the work / phases involved in the extension, using construction sequence animation.
In order to extend the building, the builders will have to knock a few walls and make various other adjustments before they can start extending the building.
I can't get my head around how i should handle the demolition / knocking of the walls in the construction sequence animation.
As i mentioned above, i need to build a model of how the current building stands now, then the construction sequence needs to show various walls being removed, before i start building the actual extension.
Any advice on this would be greatly welcomed, thank you.

Anything you wish to hide, for any scene/frame of the animation, needs to be a group or component on a different layer. (Layers could have more than one group or building element, but those groups would get hidden simultaneously.)

Hi, yes i know how to hide it, but should i just make one of the walls that i need to remove as a group and then use the section pane to remove it?

If it was me I would probably highlight the sections to be removed and turn them transparent at first then take them away completely. But it all depends what you want to show and how the rest of your animation is set up. You could remove them brick by brick but your builders might think you are extracting the uric acid.

Sounds good if you want to. Then again Box's idea sort of highlights the elements to be removed before they are gone. Do both.

Thanks guys.
Just a quick question. What do you mean "turn them transparent at first then take them away completely"?
Can you expand on this method please, thank you.

There are so many ways of animating something but it basically boils down to simple stop go motion. So you need to create the frames you want to show what you mean. Creating multiple components placing them on different layers and turning them on and off is a good way of making simple static animations. You can combine that with animated sections planes and other animating plugins if you want but it all comes down to what you want it to look like and how much effort you want to put into it...
The rudimentary animation below is just 3 components coloured differently, placed on separate layers and then made visible as necessary.Go to this thread for more complex inspiration.

Excellent thanks you... how did you create that gif

I used a thing called Gifcam, but it doesn't work with Mac.

Ok, thanks anyway.
