Yes, UV mapping. You can use free ones like Blender or Ultimate Unwrap (paid) since it can open and save skp files.
But to texture that way you need to use something like Substance Painter or similar free ones like ArmorPaint, Blender can do it also but baking is not as good as Substance Painter or ArmorPaint.
For any of them you will need to export your file to *.obj or *.fbx to texture them and after that, you will need to convert that model to skp to be able to use it in your scene.

RE: Gone from Mac book pro to PC. underwhelmed!
Can you share the file with us so we see if we can suggest something to help with that lagging?
Sketchup have and will have problems with polygon numbers, so if you use it for interior design I do this:- make tabs (layers) for furniture per room (space) so when you are done with one you can turn it off and start with the next one. It helps when rendering also.
- if it is in the rendering stage you could use proxy to replace heavy models in the scene.
- not using all 4K textures in the scene since they are stored in a SketchUp file so loading
times could be longer, that is my experience.
That is true with plugins also, as much of them loading time will get greater. - turn off shadows when modeling, it is ok on small models butt it lags when your model gets
big and heavy.
Except for this, I have no other suggestions on resolving Sketchup lagging without a file to inspect.

RE: Upholstered furniture
You make it look easy, great looking chair. Textures are spot on!!

RE: [Plugin] SketchUV - now free
Replace it with a white pic - 512x512 jpg, in the plugin folder.

RE: Curved monitor
I donยดt know about curved ones but if you go with Dell you should buy UltraSharp ones,
They have a great color cover.
That one has U in the model name.
Glenยดs is UltraSharp.

Hi guys, Im Sketchup user almost 14 years...mostly on Windows, now Version 2020 Pro + Vray 5 + D5 render...
But I have bought new Apple M1 chip Macbook Air 2020, the base config with 8GB RAM...honestly I Have to say thats great with Sketchup /no issues and almost fast as my win-workstation/ but my question was...what about reder....VRAY 5 works well /I did maybe 10 test renders of my old scenes.../ nothing heavy, almost now issues /I had to work aournd with Fur-grass setup a bit/
and I have tested
Twilight render....and it works...and works great / I was searching for something fast to produce renders on Macbook Air beacuse seems like Im leaving Vray after 10 years and switching to D5 render/Hope these infos are helpful for someone
I was roaming around D5 renderer but I came across here that it uses new RTX Nvidia cards for rendering and since I will wait some more time to get a reasonable price on 3090.

So, on new M1 silicon there are no RTX and Nvidia options at all, how will you utilize renderer? -

RE: Texture looks darker and more saturated

When I explode components, and reverse their faces, the interior face supposedly is the default material but it shows black and I know it is related to the color problem. Only when I turned every face to default and applied a new material, it rendered correctly. But I can't do this for every component. I tried to apply the Vray Glass Cristal material to a wine glass component and I had the same problem.
After playing a bit with the cushion from the image attached, and deleting one of its faces, I saw it was still appearing in the render. Even after I deleted the whole cushion, it still appeared in the render! I purged the file and this stopped, but the problem with the color continued. I'm not sure if it's related, but I think it is.
Help!
Meanwhile I think I'll reinstall sketchup
Hi, sorry for the late answer.
You can not run from a problem with SU if you on purpose or accidentally apply a material to a group or component, it messes up your default material and produces problems as you have described.
I really do not think you will get rid of that problem by reinstalling SU.
What I do is if I get to that problems I explode a component or a group and apply default material and reapply new material and then make a group or a component again.
I am almost sure that there is a plugin for that but since I do not get into those problems often I never investigate options like plugins for resolving them. Also, you need to follow advice for all non-single polygon object, ex. like curtains, keep a good orientation of your default material when you are creating a model. -

Hi, I've been having the same problem on different files. When I render, I notice that some wood textures come out darker and more saturated than what I'm expecting. The material shown on the Vray asset editor matches the material I see when working on sketchup, but doesn't match the render output. I know it's just colors, but I haven't notice it on other materials. On the image I attach you can see both the floor and the table showing this problem.
I'd appreciate any help, thx!Sketchup Pro 2019 V19.0.685
Vray 4.00.01Hi,
- do you maybe have added some layers on your vray mat, like a reflective coat?
- Maybe you could share vrmat or just the setup of your material?

Ok, I did a bit of research :
Velocity printing.xyz
They have a simple algorithm to apply any texture to a 3d print. Don't need to modify geometry
Great, please share the results of printing for us to see.

I have a problem I can't solve:
How to carve wood grain into a model for 3d printing?I want to wrap the whole model in 3d groves that represent wood.
Im sure SU is not the best tool for this, perhaps other software. I've seen amazing figure models with knitted closing that were not an applied image, it was an actual model. There has to be an easy way.I bought some wood filament for my 3d printer, but it just looks like plastic. I want to carve wood texture isto my 3d pointed architectural models, so they are even more like wood.
any advice?
Without example you are trying to do this would be my best guess.

RE: 3D model from 2D image
@mbernard said:
Thank you for your answer but with these videos it is impossible to generate exactly the model you can see on the picture.
I think you should give a go to Pilouยดs suggestion on the Bitmap to Mesh plugin.
If you apply blur filter on that image you will get a gradient picture which you can save as BMP and use it with menu Draw, option Mesh from Heightmap. But you need a low res image since the plugin will create quite a heavy mesh of that image if it is over 200px, if you watch the video you will learn how to reduce that before generating mesh.
If you do get heavy mesh you could use Transmutr or Skimp to decimate the model to something with fewer polygons. Please, watch this video on Mesh from Heightmap
https://youtu.be/s6EM1MQTlrwI tried it and it works.
Here is my model nad pic I used is in the attachment.

RE: REQ: How to Extrude two different faces
I would try Curviloft plugin, and use the tool Loft along path.
Here is my try, and be sure to check first how a plugin works and install the LibFredo6 plugin first.

RE: Follow-me twist problem
I am sorry, just did not quite understand you there so here is my try on this.
At first, I only can get to offset that curve if the upper surface is planar.
So I first did JointPushPull on that upper surface to get a straight hight surface and then used
that surface to get a straight upper surface.
Then I used that surface and JointPushPull-Follow Push Pull to get high surfaces that are offsetting from the upper one.
Here is a file also because my explanation sounds weird, just a bit
I reupload the file, now it is the SU20016 version.
