This doesn't address your question about materials but why not use the solid tools make a 'Boolean' cut in the modelled part you made? Create cube for example, rotate it to the angle you need and place it completely across the target object. Use the 'subtract option in the solid tools. This only works if the cube and the extrusion are solids.
The other option would be to buy Profile Builder 3, which would allow you to draw up screen frames to follow any path, and you can use your existing modelled part to make the profile to extrude.

RE: Sketchup not recognising internet connection
Opened and closed it, signed out and back in, no yellow eye button.
Also uploaded some test models which show up on screen but when I click one one to view it it takes me to another file location with the sketchup folder
which is empty

RE: Sketchup not recognising internet connection
It's not given me the option to run as administrator, and pretty sure I installed SU as such..

RE: Sketchup not recognising internet connection
Thanks Dave,
Downloaded it but the install seemed to fail. The installation progress bar flashed up for about one second then closed and it doesn't show up in Connect. Guess I'll have to go on the Trimble forum -
RE: Sketchup not recognising internet connection
Hi Dave
Sorry for not responding sooner. Thanks for that, I've taken the plunge and got 2021 set up, but I can't find the Visualiser in Trimble connect. It looks like it's a third party item now, is that your understanding? We have Trimble Connect for business

RE: Sketchup not recognising internet connection
Hi Dave
Thanks for that, I never would have found it. However it only got me so far. Connected ok and tried to download a model but didn't recognise that I was already signed in to Trimble, and guess what- can't remember my Trimble password. Getting a reset has proved tedious in the past.
Starting my 30 day trial for SU2021 now. Think the cloud access will be useful as I am now working more from home.... -
Sketchup not recognising internet connection
Hello
I am running SU2018 which has stopped recognising my internet connection. If I try to access the 3d warehouse through SU, it will let me browse to a model but when I try to download it reports no internet connection. I am logged in to Trimble and everything else works via internet including 3d warehouse web version.
I can't find anywhere within SU I can makes changes to the connection.
Any ideas why it might do this? Thanks
Nick

RE: Fredo check for update freezing computer
Thanks Fredo, I was obviously looking in the wrong place. this doesn't happen with my desktop PC so it might be a quirk of this laptop.

RE: Fredo check for update freezing computer
Thanks Box, I seem to have sorted it. Managed to disable all Fredo tools then used extension manager to update Fredo tools and library. Then re-enabled tools and restarted.
The dialogue box was visible but was empty as if it was hanging or struggling to connect, but my internet connection is fine. Not sure if there's a way to disable the Fredo built in update check. Can't see it in the Fredo tools settings -
Fredo check for update freezing computer
Hello All
I am having an issue with Fredos plugin checking for update locking up my laptop. The 'checking for update' dialog box comes up and the everything freezes. I can't move the mouse outside of the SU window so I'm not able to get a screenshot. I have to invoke Task Manager and shut SU down and when I do so there is a (2) next to SU in the task manager listing. I assume this means SU is running either 2 instances or its Fredos update check running alongside.
Still running SU2018 Pro, now on a Dell Inspiron 7506 2n1 on Windows 10
Anyone had this issue?Thanks
Nick

Maybe a bit of a bump map to the grey texture in the wheel arch and its as good as. -
RE: Going 2D
Love it. Well worthy of going on sale in a story book. Hope you can turn things around with it.
Best of luck, keep drawing

RE: TIG Work Plane error report
Great Thanks, although I still don't know why the error suddenly started. It is possible I accidentally re-enabled Parametric Grid from the plugin manager at the time I was trying out Workplane. That would account for the coincidental timing and me jumping to the wrong conclusion.
Is Parametric.rb still used for anything else? Unless its nested somewhere I don't seem to have it. -
RE: TIG Work Plane error report
Humble apologies TIG
The error only occurred after I had installed Workplane, which was a freaky coincidence. I thought I'd broken it somehow as I know your plugins are usually solid. That also explains why it still works.
Offending .rb now disabled=no more error
Thanks for your time.Just dug this out of the .rb file though. Seems to be calling up to parametric.rb?
Would this have anything to do with it? Can't understand where the error comes from

TIG Work Plane error report
Hi
Just tried using the Work Plane plugin for the first time and this error comes up on starting SU.
Plugin seems to still work okay though, unless I'm missing something.
I'm still running SU2018, and I have Notepad++ if you can suggest a fix.Thanks

RE: Layout viewport screwed up
It has happened before, only on 2018 I think. Might be time to bite the bullet on the upgrade then.
I will check driver but I think it is up to date. Thanks Dave

RE: Layout viewport screwed up
Yes Dave still on 2018, haven't had enough reasons to upgrade yet.
Graphics card is poor Nvidia GT 610
Mean anything to you?Thanks

Layout viewport screwed up
Anyone have an idea what's going on with the attached screenshot of my layout viewport?
I have some kind of mismatch going on with the style but the page was created as a copy of another page which is fine. This only happens with Hybrid, it is ok with Vector and Raster, but I need hybrid to create a decent looking PDF for my customerThanks

RE: Edge visibility through glass in Layout
Thanks for reminding me, I had actually forgotten that

That render looks nice.
Thanks, just don't zoom in, it only had a few passes to check the glass.
Downloaded 2019 to give it a go, got some detail drawings I want to try out. A bit too busy at the moment for a full blown switch over and re installing plugins etc.
Thanks for your help
