I'm off to go finally check out modo. I'm fed up with the whole autodesk monopoly. If modo can crank out GI renders and is close to SU for modelling I'm sold.

RE: Rhino or Modo?
When you mention problems with spheres etc its down to you're default settings in SU and nothing to do with Vray.
I've always modelled for people using programmes other than SU ( mainly max) and I always bump up the segments for anything curved. The default of 12 is useless. I use 36 as the minimum unless its really small.

RE: Presentation Ideas
You should look over at pushpullbar.com and in particular the stuff the richard does. He's posted some stuff here that will give you a idea of what is possible.

I'll have to have a look at the joint push pull. I have it but I dont think I've ever tried it yet

RE: New adventures in Sketchup Snobbery
I do a lot of modeling for some well known render houses here in the US and I do all my modeling in SU and then export via dwg and import in into max to send them the file.
The only reason I use max is for the reason above and that I also do rendering and use mental ray. Anyone who insists you need to use max is talking out of their backside. For every 100 items I model, one might be done with max and that's usually because of UV mapping issues.

RE: Making a ground with diffrent levels ( for beginners )
Funny but I just posted a topic asking how other people do topography and your method is exactly the same.
How do you go about doing kerbs and pavements?
-
Site topography
I've been using SU for ages but I've yet to come up with a clever method of doing topography.
I usually end up with contour lines from a cad file and then use crate from contours with the sandbox tools. I then have to go through and try to stamp or drape my roads etc etc.
I was wondering if any of you have a better / simpler method for doing this? I tend to have a lot of sites to model and it really is a pain in the arris.

RE: How do I reset the axis of the DC Marvin window component?
Unless sketchup change in v7 it never cuts the opening on the inside

RE: How do I reset the axis of the DC Marvin window component?
I would have thought if you double click on the component you would see where the axis location is and you could move the parts so the point that is correct?
