You are very welcome folks, just a small return for all the help, encouragement and generosity on this forum. I will try out others but the technique is simple and repeatable.
A direct quote from trimble uk:-
"Sketchup is either bought online or from a distributor. Looking on the web, the UK distributor are a company called Cadpoint !
Trimble no longer deal with this product".
'Scuse me, not thinking write this AM, I shall just scale the bleeping thing up and remove the problem at base point. Yes obvious I know, I just had to work it out with a pencil and a very long spoon...........
Thanks for the tips, I know about the spere or even just a square/oblong face for 'painting' a background on it is difficult for distance/scale issues as I want some renders at different ranges. The watermark tip is something I did not have a clue about but it just does not get there having a strange appearance but then I could be in error with scaling during import. I will have to try some different models for comparison. Thanks for your suggestions, another day with new lessons.
Sorry Rich, missed this, yes latest release of 2013. Now I have the toolbar found I am basically OK, just got to fit the extra mats into kerkythea and I shall take it for a strole around the block.
Thanks Tig, it was as you say, selected. I usually work to 1/4" for architectural but 1/64" when the model is a plane or car. I still find at times that the line would be somewhat different from my input length so it is still not right by any means but I understand nothing is perfect under any sun.
Thanks Daniel, I think the background is curtessy of the twilight forum but I cannot be certain, I shall leave it here in case anyone wants it.

Could somebody please explain what this is about? Yeah, I are pretty SU dumb
He was part of the Trimble team and he was a big supporter of the SketchUp Acquisition and perhaps a facilitator of it... He passed away last year I believe. This is their Trimble Tribute.
Ah. Thanks for explaining that. I did find this thread that talks about Derrick http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=52492&p=475932&hilit=derrick#p475932
So now I know.
Sad that he's passed away.
Just had a complete evaporation from using the explode command so I think there is more than meets the eye going on here. I will try the test you described on sunday when I am no longer tearing my hair out. Pain in the proverbial. V8 is the vanilla of choice now and this is going poof too so the model itself may have some gremlins in the drivers seat I suppose. Sod.
I've had a few models that this happens on regularly. One was made by another guy and I inherited it. That model would regularly have issues that ended up in deleted geometry.
A few others I made myself from CAD imports. Its not too common, but also not completely uncommon. And maybe certain modeling habits lead to more problematic models.
So its not really probable, but it is a theory of what could be happening
