I have another question too... If I make a model using quads, and go to export it as such, with no triangulation, will that mess up the UV coordinates?
I'd imagine that's more of a worry for tiling textures, where in some cases, if you fail to triangulate the model (on export) you'll end up with hundreds of fragmented jpegs of the original textures. I don't think that would actual happen, but perhaps some form of wonkiness on export.
That's not a rational concern, correct?

And yeah, I kinda liked the background music too.

      BTW... is it finished yet?

      How about now?

This looks fantastic. I'm looking forward to its further development.
If possible I hope the price range would be in the Artisan/SubD realm.
I agree, WrapR might not be the name with the most visual lock... Add an "Un" and eyeballs might lock on and stop to read, but still most folks with experience know what wrapping/unwrapping is about.
That and once it's available (it will happen, I hope), people will probably come from all over via suggestions/links in forum posts and other recommendations anyway, so anything "wrappy" will do.

And now the waiting game begins...

      Is it done yet?

      How about now?

      Now?

    • RE: Automatic Retopology

Thank you pilou! Another amazing find!

Just a tip for anyone experiencing the same problem I did... In the precomplied version.... When you eventually go to save, you may get an error message... I took me a while to figure out that you have to add the format extension (.obj or .ply) to the name ( example: TestModel.obj ) or it will fail... For me at least, in most programs, you pick your format and type in your model's name and the extension (.obj or whatever ) is added automatically, because you already chose it... But I guess not here... Maybe it's just a bug? Oh well.

    • RE: Parallel projection is default camera?

I tried turning off hardware acceleration, but it still opens in parallel projection.

This computer is fairly new, two months maybe and to the best of my knowledge everything is up to date... It's a Dell XPS 8700 i7-4790 with 16 GB RAM...

I have the trial version of SU 2014 Pro with about two hours left on it on this same computer, I opened up some files in it, that in 2015 Make, open up in parallel projection, but in 2014 Pro, they open in perspective as they should...

2015 is not stuck in Parallel projection... It just insists on using that as the default camera when SU opens... After SU loads I can change it to perspective... Or any other camera view... It's just that it's a (sorta) minor pain in the butt to do it every time.

The beers are helping to change my eyeball camera settings... I think I'm in Isoextroangularmetric now... It a new alcohol based eyeball setting...

It's not stuck in parallel projection, I can choose perspective and it will change to that... It just won't remember it or save it.

I tried the trick of making a template on the other computer... It works there, but in SU 2015 Make, on the newer computer, it won't recognize the camera setting and opens in parallel projection, instead of perspective.
Changes to styles, units etc, all carry over... But not the frikin camera...

I'm gonna have a couple of beers... Maybe that will solve the problem.

      Yes.
Actually, additionally I have opened all the templates SU came with to see if any open in perspective... Not one, all are parallel projection... Could this be a bug?

I have an older computer running SU 8... If I were to create a template on that, and bring it over to the new computer, there is no reason it should not work... Right?

Sorry to be a bother, but I looked it up, followed the instructions and it's not saving any changes to the camera... It does save style changes... But not camera.
      Is there something I'm missing?

Open SU, makes changes (to change camera go to Camera > choose: Perspective) then go to File > Save As Template... Give it a name, description, choose "set as default template" and click save...

When I close out and then open SU again, the camera should still be "Perspective"... Right?

      Any ideas?

    • RE: Parallel projection is default camera?

Hmm, now that you mention it I very hazily recall having heard of that feature, maybe in one of the sketchup books I bought...
Which I can't find at the moment (since I recently built a new computer/assorted crap desk, nothing is where it should be)....
I never would have come to that conclusion on my own.
I've never customized a template and for years have been using the default feet and inches similar to the default setting in SU6... Or 5 or whatever version I first started using.
But to be honest I never thought templates did more than change modeling measurement and background style settings...
I wonder what other settings you can change for a new template...
Now I must read up on this...
Thank you Box and Dave R, you have helped me greatly!

    • Parallel projection is default camera?

I just downloaded SU Make 2015, a few days ago, and one thing that has been annoying the hell out of me is that it appears the Default camera now is for some reason "Parallel Projection" instead of "Perspective" as it was for many years.

Is there some odd way to change that preference that I'm not seeing?... It does not seem to be in the preference choices.

Or will I have reset that every single time I open a file? It's a bit of a pain in the butt.

    • RE: Price Rise

$700... A bit behind the times, but I just noticed this...
What a kick in the nuts...

Well, I guess I'm no longer saving up to purchase Pro... The extra $200 just put it out of my Hobby price range.

A nice thing to have done would have been to have made different packages available...
A full suite for $700 and separate SU, Layout and Style builder packages... Invidually sold they could equal more than the bundled $700 cost, but allow those starting off, semi-professionals and honest hobbyists to afford what they need.

Bean counters and marketing professional would say that's not maximizing profit... But it probably would bring in more small users who have absolutely no need for layout or style builder.

The music industry learned that making stuff affordable attracts customers... Big software companies disagree.

There are two groups in their eyes... Hobbyists/students who get PLEs and limited feature free versions, and Professional who pay top dollar (to be honest, I'm actually surprised they did not raise it to an even 1k)...
There is no semi-professional on a budget or small businesses... Anyone starting out or struggling to get by can suck it.

But whats done is done and I'm just shouting at the wind...

    • Artisan registration question...

I just downloaded Artisan (into Make 2015) and went to input my registration key, but the "Register" choice is greyed-out... It has been a long time since I last registered it (different computer).

Do I have to wait for the trial period to expire to use my actual registration key?
I dont remember that being the case...

Or could it be that because I transfered some of the plugins (Artisan included) from my old computer to a trial version of SU Pro 2013 on this computer... Although I dont recall registering Artisan in SU Pro 2013 (though its possible), could it be possible Artisan remained registered in the carryover?

I suppose the best person to ask is Whaat (sorry if that's misspelled), but I didnt want to bother him with what may be a simple stupid question.

Thanks in advance for any info or help on this subject.

Thanks for the link pilou! You find some of the coolest most amazing free software around!
Space engine is very addictive and beautiful.
Since your original post, there has been a newer version added, with more cool features... Plus it has been "Greenlit" for Steam... I suppose that means it may soon appear on Steam's site as well as Space Engine's... ?
      Thanks again.

    • RE: How safe is an exported sketchup model?

I'm not clear on whether those dogs are part of your scene/model...
You can not redistribute any meshes from DAZ3D.
If you include the dogs as meshes in your model or scene and give it out, whether for free or profit that is redistribution.
They will take legal action if they find out.
They are very adamant about that.
If the dogs or other models are billboard components, then that is okay since they were made from a 2D render.
Most purchased or free 3D assets do not allow for redistribution, even if it says it is for commercial use... that just means the rendered image is what you can distribute... not the actual mesh.
Sorry if you know all that already, but I have seen several people innocently make that mistake and then have difficulty later and then end up having the rest of their project ruined or interrupted when they have to fix it.
      Good luck.

    • RE: Older versions of TT_Lib?

Thank you tomtom, 2.9.9 did the trick!
I realize that I'm running a very old version of OSX, but there are a couple of older programs that I have which will not run on anything newer and to replace them would cost me at least $2,000, and unfortunately I don't have that at the moment.
Fortunately, I have a Dell laptop which I refurbished to run Windows 8, its a bit wonky and the screen is small, but for certain operations that require newer plugins, I'll switch between machines to get the job done.
Anyway, thank you for all your wonderful plugins and help. I hope you had a happy holiday, and have a happy New Year as well!

    • Older versions of TT_Lib?

Hi, Please bear with me and my possible poor use of correct terminology...

I'm using an iMac 2 GHz Core2 Duo running OSX 10.6.8. and running SketchUp 8... everything was cool and happy until I decided to give Bezier Surface a try...

I installed it but all I could do was draw the patch, no dialog box or menus showed up... So I decided to update TT_Lib and see if that would fix it...
Following though links on the first page of the Bezier Surface thread, I came to version 2.9.14...
      I installed it and....
      Instant crash.
SU can't even open with it installed, so I removed it...
All I can find in terms of older versions are the ones listed here at the Plugins Index...
TT_Lib2 (2.7.1)-19 February 2013... which actually links to TT_Lib2 2.9.15, which when installed gives me a "not supported by this platform" notice...
2.9.15 is newer than 2.9.14? right?
The only other version available is 1.2.0 which is obsolete and won't work with material replacer and quadface tools... and possible a couple of other plugins of TomTom's that were working before I got the bright idea to change things...

I think the last time I upgraded TT_Lib was last year, maybe less... maybe more...
What really sucks is, normally I just grab and copy the previous version of a plugin before I upgrade, so if everything goes bad I still have the old version, but this time I screwed up and blindly grabbed and copied tt_cleanup instead of tt_lib...
And so I have no idea which version of tt_lib I had.

Is there anywhere where the previous versions are available?
Ideally if a couple were out there, I could go back and try one version at a time until things worked again.

Sorry if I'm leaving anything out, I just want to be back where I was before the past two hours... any suggestions or help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks.

Edited to Add that I copied Version 2.9.13 from my Dell laptop and that version also causes SketchUp to instantly crash... Maybe it was as far back as Version 2.9.0

    • RE: Fantastic TreeSketch 3.0

      Pilou, thanks a million!
A few weeks ago I was searching for free tree generating programs and besides the SU tree making plugin, the best I could find that would work with a MAC was ngPlant, which doesn't work on my version of the OS... and the plugin for Blender...
The blender one was a bit hard to control...

Then I find this thread and in less than a half an hour I have created a beautiful simple weeping willow tree, almost exactly as I needed!!

Thanks! Finally, something that models 3D that can be used on the iPad!

    • RE: DAE import in DazStudio ?

I use Poser more than DAZ Studio- Usually when I do import my models into DAZ Studio it is- SketchUp(Export DAE)> Blender (Import DAE- Export OBJ)> Poser (Import OBJ- Save as PP2)> (and if testing the model to see if it works in DAZ Studio) DAZ Studio (place PP2 into "Props" runtime folder and open)...

But anyway, I checked out what you were trying (I never tried to export a SU human figure to DAZ before)...
Apparently it is almost impossible to get that to happen without a lot of effort...

The best I could do was to export the figure alone to Blender, and then tweak the colors and then export it to DAZ Studio as either a DAE or OBJ...
From what I can tell, most likely the problem is coming from the triangulation of the figure which unless you do it in a logical manner (manually, not auto triangulate on export or the triangulate plugin- thats just makes a crazy triangle mess), by hand... (which I did not do)... the triangulation seems to mess up the figure somehow...

The best result I got had a bunch of material zones messed up and for some reason, multiple faces occupying the same coordinates... very weird.

But the SU to Blender method seemed to work... I didn't bother with high end software, because this is about using a free (0$) program, but I imagine there could probably be some other method that might work.

I don't like to import my models to DAZ Studio first, as it seems to be more fussy about models made in SketchUp than Poser seems to be, but both seem to require a bit of fixing in Blender for best results.
