    • Layout slowdowns caused by high res images

      When I use layout to arrange my porfolio, I often use high res images. These images are too high res, meaning that the detail on the images would be lost when printed. However the problem is that after adding many of this images they slow down the computer.

      Is there away for layout to somehow "explode" this images, and lower the resolution, essentially creating new lower res images in the place of the old image. The resolution of the images would after match the resolution of the page.

      A built in plugin search bar... that would quickly look through all plugins for what you need.

      It doesn't show a north arrow per se. It just shows an orange line pointing north from the origin. By default north is along the solid green axis but with the Solar North tools you can change it.

      [attachment=0:1eelnskm]<!-- ia0 -->solar north.png<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:1eelnskm]

      If you want something more like a traditional north arrow, you should make a component and insert it into your model.

    • RE: So I have this idea for a plugin (let me explain)

      So it would have to be handled through an external program somehow modifying sketchup?

      Ye my example was simple for demonstration purposes.

      Sketchup wouldn't probably crash with small surfaces. However with big ones then, ye. So the user would have to divide the surface up before. Most likely. If each component would be applied to quad or triangle (depending on the geometry) (e.g if its a quad then the users component must have four sides, if the panels are a triangle the user component must have 3 sides) the user would be able to limit the amounts he selects.

      Perhaps it would be best to limit it to one surface at the beginning a see how it goes. from there.

    • So I have this idea for a plugin (let me explain)

      1) Lets say you create a building, and it has some rather complex facade.
      I know this is not complex in any way)

      http://i.imgur.com/8vtVg.jpg?1

      2) And you want to apply a component/Group to all the facades of the building

      http://i.imgur.com/AR2Wh.jpg?1

      3) You would paint the back of it the component blue and the facades where you want to apply it red. (or another specific colour).
      This would tell the script what you want to apply and where.

      http://i.imgur.com/66hXg.jpg?1

      4) Then the script would process the command and apply that comment to all the areas you had selected with red colour. Deforming/twisting/scaling the original group where nessasery.

      http://i.imgur.com/6MrJl.jpg?1

      So whats the point?

      Suddenly in sketch-up you would have a feature that is available in parametric modelling. A very useful feature. Complex façades could be done in a few minutes, without sweat.

      The next step would be where one could select multiple components to apply and the computer would choose at random which to apply and where.

      What you guys think? Any problems that my arise?

      I don't know how to remove it, but if you have it, I would guess uninstall in a similar way?

      Theres an unistall file in the plugin hidden in a unis file or something like that.

      The plugin works great, by the way.

      I cant believe that the suplugins are charging 25 dollars for the exact same (edit in place) (or similar plugin).

      I heard the original author of "Edit selected component" plugin died? Then what SU plugin is doing is then really disrespectful in my opinion.

      Not sure if it will help, but the most recent file is maintined on our site here, not over at the ruby depot. It looks like the ruby depot has a recent version, but I think TIG might have uploaded a newer here that they might not have updated over there. ANYHOW, make sure you've got the version from here:

      http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=33730

      Then, do you run SketchyPhysics? That error hints that something like SketchyPhysics might be interrupting as well. But I'd say first make sure you have the newest version installed, then try disabling all other plugins and re-test.

      Chris

      Ah thank you this is why I did not find the recent verision, it got a name change πŸ˜„ Thankyou.. Ill check it out πŸ˜„

      How I remove sketchy physcics? It kind of not for me.

      The surafce is very 'irregular' actually. Unless it is made of Quads (with Thomthom's convention), I am afraid it cannot be properly mapped with ThruPaint.
      I would recommend you try with SketchUV plugin, which is more specialized in UV-mapping any kind of surface.

      Thank you I understood how to load a single plugin, and did so successfully but not so much a whole file from this directory: E:\Sketchup\Plugins
      Inside my example script the last few lines of code load everything inside a given folder. You can't type multi-line code in the console, use ; to make it one line...
      First set the path
      path='E:\Sketchup\Plugins'
      then
      Dir.entries(path).each{|file|ext=File.extname(file).downcase;next unless ext==".rb"||ext==".rbs";Sketchup.load(File.join(path, file))}
      To load all files inside the give 'path'...

      Try

      load"plugin path/plugin.rb"

      Sorry about posting it in layout.
      So lets say lets say I want to load push pull I would write:

      load"E:\Sketchup\Plugins/jointpushpull.rb" ?

      And if the plugin was dependent on other plugins would there be a way of loading the whole foldier?
