    • RE: Sample Model for Rendering - Loft w Telescope

Nice work on the renders, loving all of the different styles. Liking the Ghostbusters apartment, although through a telescope would scare the living daylights out of you.

This is the model rendered at day and night in Shaderlight, although I am thinking now of green lights and UFO's so watch this space.

    • Shaderlight Cloud Rendering

We have now released the latest version of Shaderlight which includes Shaderlight Cloud Rendering. This feature is fully integrated in to Shaderlight and takes the final render off of your machine and renders it on the cloud. This can be done for both scenes and animations, the animations get rendered across multiple computers so this will speed up animation rendering.

We have put together a new video showing how to use the cloud rendering. For a limited time when you create an account on the cloud you will get one free credit. This credit will let you render an image up to 1920 x 1080 on the cloud.

Shaderlight 2.2 is a free upgrade for customers that have Shaderlight v2.

As always would love to hear what you guys think, we are continuously developing so any ideas or requests for Shaderlight features are always welcomed.

    • RE: Model won't render

We would be happy to look at the model to find out why it isn't rendering in Shaderlight. If you would like to email support@artvps.com we can try and find out what is going on. If it is a large model we can go through options of getting it over to us when you email.

    • Has the search changed in the Components Browser

I was wondering if I have changed something or if someone can confirm if the behaviour of the Components Browser has changed.

Previously I have been able to search for Collections as well as Components, I have even setup a few favourites to collections that I use. But late last week my searches produce 0 results for the known and bookmarked collections.

Has something changed following the policy changes from Google, or is that a complete stab in the dark. Or is it that I have changed something.

Hopefully someone can sanity check this for me.

    • RE: Shaderlight v2.1 is now available!

A previously activated trial code will not be able to be activated again for 2.1 so it will be running as the free version.

If you would like to contact us at support@artvps.com we would be happy to arrange another trial for you.

    • RE: Strange SU 8 Pro behaviour

As we have posted on the Shaderlight forum, this is behaviour that is being caused by Shaderlight. This was discovered following your initial query to Shaderlight support.

This is something that we have now entered in to our system and will hopefully be resolved in a future update of Shaderlight.

Any queries or questions about Shaderlight, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at support@artvps.com or on our forum at http://www.artvps.com/index.php/discuss

    • RE: Vray vs. Shaderlight ?

Thanks for taking the time to test Shaderlight – as you rightly say, our focus has been to make the software easy to use whilst still enabling you to achieve great results. Hopefully you have seen the time savings in the setup of your scene with the interactive updates.

Shaderight’s rendering speed relies on two things – processor and RAM. The faster the processor you have the faster you computer can deal with the computations needed to render a scene. However to process the scene it needs to be loaded into RAM, if the full scene is unable to fit in to the RAM then the HDD will start swapping memory and this does slow things down. Shaderlight is a 64-bit application so can use more than 3Gb RAM in a 64bit OS, it is also mutli-threaded so will benefit from faster processors.

More RAM will make a larger scene render faster but wont make much difference to smaller scenes, processor will make a difference all the time. When rendering in the interactive AUTO mode Shaderlight is rendering the entire render frame so will use alot more RAM, so having more RAM will help there too.

Hope this makes sense, if you still feel things aren't quite doing what they need to please email support@artvps.com and the guys will try a few things to help you with the scene.

    • RE: Questions about rendering applications for SketchUp

I just wanted to post an update on the licensing situation in Shaderlight.

For Shaderlight 1.2 we incorporated a new licensing system which has made the installation process much more straight forward for our community. However, we discovered that a limitation of this new system was that we were unable to allow multiple activations on a license code or have the ability to transfer the license to another machine. We have been working to resolve this and importantly maintain the straight forward licensing.

Our development team concentrated on allowing multiple activations on a single code, new commercial Shaderlight activation codes can be used twice so you will be ok to activate your Shaderlight license on your office and home computer. The licensing of Shaderlight allows you to have Shaderlight installed on 2 machines, but only use 1 at a time.

Customers that have an existing Shaderlight license will need to contact support@artvps.com and their license code will be modified.

    • RE: Rendering on a Mac - problems with Shaderlight

Thank you for your posts, we are looking in to the material editor issues. We are also preparing some updated documentation that runs through the Mac Material Editor as there are some particular combinations of selections that will help you get the most out of the Mac material editor.

Samyell - Please could you repost the video, or send it directly to support@artvps.com as the attachment to the post is less than 1Kb.

Also Batch rendering is something that is in our development plan, so hopefully this is something that we will have in a future release.

[With regards to the zooming and panning, this has been answered on our forum. So hopefully using the 'CMD ⌘' key with the wheel is working ok for you.]

The default control for zooming the Mac screen is setup to be 'Ctrl' and the wheel. So if your mac has been changed to 'CMD' and the wheel then this will get priority and Shaderlight will not be able to zoom in the render window. Panning the image should just be the left mouse button.

I hope this helps, thanks for the feedback.

    • RE: Rendering on a Mac - problems with Shaderlight

      Hello Susan,

I am sorry you have had problems with Shaderlight. We have seen you have been asking questions during your trial on the Shaderlight forum, and I understood that you were happy with the responses from the support team.

I accept that we do have a bug with the Shaderlight material editor in the Mac, and I can confirm that development is working on this. Using the 'CMD ⌘' key with the material editor to pick materials using the pipette tool will help with this. Shaderlight is being continuously developed and improved and we feel that feedback from customers is essential for this. Any crashes in Shaderlight we treat as the highest priority, and will work with a customer to find out what is happening and if necessary find suitable solutions.

With regards to the zooming and panning, this has been answered on our forum. So hopefully using the 'CMD ⌘' key with the wheel is working ok for you.

Hopefully you may reconsider Shaderlight, but I hope you find the renderer you are looking for.

    • RE: Render program test

Nice work on the rendering, I hope you are getting on ok with Shaderlight. There are some videos on the website which show different aspects of Shaderlight http://www.artvps.com/index.php/tutorials/shaderlight. If you do get stuck please email support@artvps.com and the support team will be able to give you a hand.

With regards to the glass, I would lighten the colour of the glass material in SketchUp. If the glass has 2 layers to represent a thickness this will make it appear darker in the render.

      Hope this helps

    • RE: Blend Image Help Please

Nice work, I like the effects you are creating.

As a useful tip Shaderlight matches the width of the render with the width of the SketchUp window. So to get the images to match directly you need to resize either the Shaderlight image, or the SketchUp screen image to be the same width. Then you can change the Canvas Size in Photoshop to cut the required image down to size.

      Hope this helps.

    • RE: Shaderlight render contest

I have seen you have posted on to the ArtVPS forum, but if you look here first I will post the response.

This is a strange problem, I am fairly sure this is not down to you having both versions of SketchUp.

Please could you tell me more about your system that you are trying to install on. Please could you tell me what operating system you are running and if it is a localised version. Also could you tell us what anti virus and firewall you are running as we want to see if we can determine what may be causing Shaderlight not to see the information it needs on installation.

You can either post this information here, or email it direct to support@artvps.com

      @unknownuser said:

Cool! Good to know. So here's a question, if mine is installed in the x86 directory, does that mean its not running as a 64 bit app?

No that is where it will be installed whether running as 32 bit or 64 bit. While rendering in the Shaderlight Render Window go to Help, About Shaderlight. This will tell you what version you are running. The information is not displayed in the SketchUp help menu just the Shaderlight one.

    • RE: Render this: Kitchen

I just wanted to clarify that Shaderlight will run as both a 32 bit and 64 bit system.

In our installer we tell Windows that it is a 32 bit system to avoid having 2 separate installers. But if you have 64 bit Windows then you will be running 64 bit Shaderlight (it will confirm this in the Help - About Shaderlight in the Shaderlight render Window. So Shaderlight will benefit from having more than 4Gb in the system and will use it.

      Hi Dave,

Please could you email support@artvps.com as I want to find out what is happening to Shaderlight to cause the problems you are seeing. Are you only seeing this problem when you are rendering in 'Tiled' mode.

In your email please could you let us know your machine specification.
