For me as an landscape architect the
      mover2.rb,
      soap skin bubble,
      random push pull,
      randomize tin,
TBD's Randor and of course the
drop.rb, are very needful for creating and editing plants and areas.

And always use the purge script for a fast cleanup of your model.
Often useful is the selection memory tool, especially when u made a more complex selection...

and sometimes some of all the other scripts, like flightpaath2 or so.

    • RE: Thank you all, finally I made my diploma - with Sketchup!

Yes it is Coen. I'm sure you got many suggestions to improve this one 😄.
Beside, my work did not have the focus on creating the perfect SU-Model.
SU was a tool to visualize my ideas beside many other facts, in a sustainable need of time.
If you like to and you got the patience to wait till end of January (after I was presenting my work to the town council), I would be very happy if I could send the file to you.
So please let me know if this is OK, and how you like to receive this bunch ideas (how about bittorent?).

And thanks Graig! Nice to see some Motorcycle-keen people here in this virtual world 😉(knowing your part of the big "G"). My Prof is very interested to see the improvements in SU coming the near future, to complete involving SU in the Landscape design workflow.
The next step is up to me, to show the common (cad knowing) masters of landscape architecture at my university, how powerful SU can be. I'm a bit excited of course 😉, but SU will convince them, I hope...

    • Thank you all, finally I made my diploma - with Sketchup!

I have to say "thank you"!
Last week I made my diploma as an landscape architect.
Now I'm finally an graduated engineer (here in Germany it's called Diplom Ingenieur)

And you are part of it!

Thank you for all these helpful lessons I was learning here, which helped me out through all these sleepless nights behind the display to solve many problems for my final paper.
Thank you for the advices I was consuming passively.
Thank you for all these components.
Thank you especially for all these free scripts and of course the very reasonable ones @smustard.
Thank you to see other people having the same problems as me.
(special thanks to boofredley for the ram advices 😉)

And thank you for this GREAT FORUM!!!!

Of course you were part of my expressions of thanks (which is part of every diploma thesis).

With your help, my work was ratet with an 1.0 (it's like an A+).
And now my professor offerd me to teach other students at my university of applied sciences how to use sketchup!!!!

      I'm so happy.

      THANK YOU ALL

For everyone who wants to know:
I was planning an concept for an whole developing area, with very hard constraints.
I remodelled an area with the size of over 50.000m² (about 540.000 square feet) including the terraced terrain with a gradient of over 10 percent.
I made an 5min animation and over 30 renderings which took over 5 hours each.
The whole modelling and rendering took over 1000 hours to complete, i know there are more realistic results possible but working with such a big project didn't leave much time to become fussy. especially by having a look at the filesize of over 120MB (yes the model was already optimezed, i learned a lot here 😉 )... this was pain, but worth it i think.

    • RE: Lighting Plugin for Sketchup

I agree with the others! damn, that looks great will be a big thing, when released (it seems to be one already:) ).
One thing i noticed: in the left corner we were able to see the "render-progress", and compared with the "real" renderplugins it was really fast. so i wonder on what machine this "rendering" was done.

      Thanks in forward!!!!

    • RE: Shortcut keys for mouse

      Hi j!
This depends on what mouse you use. if you have a logitech for example, you may use the setpoint software for adjusting the hotkeys. my mx-rev has beside the left-, right- and middle-click, 8(!) hotkeys applied, which make me really fast 😄...

    • RE: Layer0 behavior when turned off

I noticed this too. I Always need to turn on layer0 if i like to render in Vray or Kerkythea.
As far as i noticed the strange behaviour of Layer0 seems to apply (?) to all other layers.
I inserted trees on layer xy and then put some of them in layer yz. When turning off layer xy the trees on layer yz disappear too. It took many nerves to find this out... But i didn't find a solution yet. Maybe we got a Layer wiz in this forum? 😄

    • RE: Heavy terrain a problem

      Hi Edson,
this maybe a bit unconventional and too simple (and you maybe already thought of this) but you may cut the terrain, use the "paste in place" command to insert it into a new drawing. save. when you need it again, just copy it from the new made drawing and "paste in place" into your "real" drawing.

recently i was working with a complex terrain modell too. it ended up with 120MB and took over 10mins to save or open it. but i always needed to have terrain visible 😕 . this was pain.

You must have designed something really special, to afford yourself printouts on Sundays and maybe on Christmas eve... Crazy!

Regardless the purchasing price, i wonder how much such a "printout" will cost...
Maybe anyone knows the price of an "3D sheet"?

    • RE: Componenets not rendering in VRAY

tacbob, maybe i can help you:

      1. make sure, that layer0 in sketchup is activated.
        then try to render.
if this didn't help or only some components are rendered:
      2. explode every nested component/group so often, until there is left one bounding box per component only (i hope you understand what i mean), then vray is able to render your components. this helped me always.

but be careful, exploding your components until there is left one instance only, makes your model slower and larger imho. with this, my model ended up with a size of 120MB and rendering one image of it, took about 4-6 hours at a 1600x1200 resolution.... maybe u like to post your (of course only the quick and dirty) results 😄

Im Ernst? Layout ist mir an sich sehr sympatisch, ich versuche immer noch damit zu arbeiten... regelmäßig frustrierend.
      Gibt es eine auffällige "Schlüsselveränderung"?
