Componenets not rendering in VRAY
-
Components inserted into the model are not always visible when rendered in VRAY. The only way around this at the moment is to explode them and then group them, but why does this happen? Why are components invisible when rendered?
Thanks

Tacbob,
There was a duplicate of your post - I deleted it if you don't mind.
On the other hand I wish I could help but I don't use Vray. I'm sure though someone will drop by and help you out. -
tacbob, maybe i can help you:
- make sure, that layer0 in sketchup is activated.
then try to render.
if this didn't help or only some components are rendered: - explode every nested component/group so often, until there is left one bounding box per component only (i hope you understand what i mean), then vray is able to render your components. this helped me always.
but be careful, exploding your components until there is left one instance only, makes your model slower and larger imho. with this, my model ended up with a size of 120MB and rendering one image of it, took about 4-6 hours at a 1600x1200 resolution.... maybe u like to post your (of course only the quick and dirty) results

Odd. I have the opposite problem. Groups refuse to render, while components works fine.
The upcoming new Service Release fixes this. -

My hello to the sketchUcation experts and readers! Have been using SU for sometime, but just recently started to follow sketchUcation for plugins, and discussions... Thanks for all the resources!
Coming to the point in question, I faced the same issue for external components, and turning on the Layer 0 solved the problem. The external components have elements on Layer 0, and when I get them into my current model, I put them on my 'interiors' layer. So even though I switch 'Layer 0' off, all elements of the external component are visible in the viewport, but not rendered by V-Ray, because 'Layer 0' is off.
Extended question... Is there a way where I can set all elems of a component to reside on a 'default layer' which on importing, becomes the layer the component is brought into - instead of the original 'Layer 0'?
Namaste, desJam

I think Thom Thom's CleanUp plugin does this.

It didn´t work for me. But i found that copy all the model to a new sketchup file work and now vray can render everything!
