      Hello. I don't know how to describe it, but i'm looking for a plugin or method to create this type of shape

      http://arianvacuum.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/76.jpg

      i can create a simple pipe/hose shape with a line and 'follow me' tool. but i'm also looking to have those grooves or what they're called along the hose. any suggestions?

      It's a British engine. The scene looks fantastic. What renderer do you use?

      Thank you. And finished the cramped, fiery cabin of one of these as part of my new attempts at rendering + photoshop retouching.

    • RE: [Plugin] Eneroth Railroad System (v 0.1.21)

      Very impressive. It's a shame that it doesn't seem to work on my SU 8 (i'm using WinXP btw). But i'm planning on upgrading anyway so i might take another look sometime in the future.

      either way, if you need help adding new rolling stock/locomotives for future versions, please let me know and i'll gladly try to help out with some models. German locomotives are one of my favorites too.

      Aw man, how do you get the specular, detailed shadows and otherwise photorealistic lighting in sketchup? not that my system could ever handle it, but it's still a cool looking set of features

    • Some more trains

      More trains, somewhat more colorful renders, all built in sketchup without using any sort of plugins. all are pretty much built according to blueprints/photos and are rendered in Mental Ray. Most models are in the 60k - 200K polygon region.

    • Exporting working .skp components (instances)

      Sorry for asking this here, but I couldn't find any other place. I would like to export an .skp model to 3ds max but I can't get the components to work (they are imported as individual objects, not 'instances'). is there any way to export functional components to other programs?

      Latest 3d model. should have done better/more renders but my PC is so painfully slow (especially with complex materials). starting to look like a broken record, but here is yet another loco. No plugins used. i decided to include and name cabin controls and detail them if anyone is interested. almost every component is named so here they are.

      http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/s613/Lzoli18/Py27/insideb_zps2604d625.jpg

      LEFT============
      Rvs - Reverser handle. Controls the direction of the engine, almost like a gear shift on a car. It can either be turned forward, backward or positioned on idle.
      Brk - Brakes. When activated, six brake shoes are applied, one for each wheel. Like the brakes on a bike, it takes awhile for the brakes to slow down the vehicle.
      T - Measurement taps, used to measure the exact water level inside the boiler.
      R - Regulator lever. Works as a sort of throttle, controlling the amount of steam that gets into the cylinders. The cylinders blocks are those two motors on either side of the loco that drive the wheels.
      S - Sanders. When pulled, it releases sand in front of the wheel from a dome placed atop the boiler, increasing traction and preventing wheel slip. Rails don't offer much traction, so this definitely helps, especially on rainy days.
      W - Whistle, steam powered.
      I - Injector controls. This tool injects fresh water into the boiler from the water tanks when needed. Without a supply of water, the engine steadily crawls to a halt. Water is stored inside the two side compartments located outside the cabin.

      RIGHT=============
      A - ashpan levers. Opens a trap door underneath that releases ash and other residue resulting from the fire
      Pb - plate bolts. Fastens the outer plates to the boiler
      F - firebox door
      Wg - water gauge. measures the water level inside the boiler. a protective outer shell is fastened to it in case the glass shatters (hot water and shards of glass tend to hurt). Not always a reliable tool when climbing or descending a hill. The three taps are used to equalize the water to show a correct measurement, or shut it off completely if necessary.
      P - Pressure gauge. measures the pressure inside the boiler.
      I - Injector controls. See above. Why there are two of these on either side of was always a mystery to me. I suppose it's because if one crew member is busy, the other one can inject water or it might be a fail safe mechanism, or both.
      B - Blower. blows hot air unto the fire, increases its temperature.
      O - Oilbox handle

      It's a great model. but Kerky I think has its limitations. Vray or Mental Ray can do some great renders. Add in some photoshop and your renders will look very realistic.
