This would make a great advert for Artisan's capabilities I think

RE: 3 Whell Bike
Very, very cool. I'd be fascinated to see the geometry / wireframe. Looks like a very complex model.

RE: Observation tower
Indeed. I'm guessing it was used as an observation tower / sniper tower during WW2. Blowing up tall buildings was common because of this

RE: Observation tower
A shame it was blown up. Looks like a very well designed building

stunning! I thought at first the initial b&w image was a reference photo. Superb modeling and texturing!
Thanks everyone. Also upped a few better clays.

If ever you decide to share the model I'd love to take a stab at rendering it.
This one is 32mb I didn't check the polycount yet, but i think it's somewhere around 500k
But i already have some models uploaded on the warehouse. this one is the most detailed one I have there - https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=1c416135207d17ca3023a62310645ee8

Another 3D Train Model
Hi. This locomotive took me about a month to make. All of it was built in SU and rendered in Mental Ray. If i'd have built most of it in max it would have probably taken me three times as much work. i had to remake bits of it along the way but the model came out ok in the end.

RE: Subdivision modelling
Nevermind, i think i found something useful
-
RE: Subdivision modelling
I'm importing it directly as skp (i'm using 3ds max 2013 trial at the moment).
Is there any plugin that does subdivision?
-
RE: Subdivision modelling
Nope, and the normals looked good on import too (i'll double check right now) here's a shot of the skp model if it helps with anything

Subdivision modelling
I'm experimenting with subdivision modelling, a technique which involves using four-sided faces everywhere that can be sub-divided to make a more complex looking, smoother model
i made a model and imported in 3ds max. the subdividing part went well, but the smoothing is all wrong. can anyone tell me some reliable ways of subdivision modelling? I can upload the skp model if anyone wants to test it

RE: Can I submit an ebook?
Thanks. I haven't started yet, as I wanted to be sure I can submit it before putting any time into it. Thanks again for clearing things up. ;D

Can I submit an ebook?
Just an odd idea that popped into my head. I'm not going to get my hopes up, but i'd like to know what my chances are that this site might accept my ebook. Are there any guidelines to this? Any requirements? Does the site even accept user-written ebooks or do they only employ professional writers / modelers?
I've seen lots of ebooks sold here, with subjects ranging from 'how to built a car' to 'how to build a french armchair' or plane in SU. I'd like to write one about how to build a train, which, as some of you may know, i've been doing for some time in SU (among other things). Here's a model of mine made in SU8 (no plugins used) http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=81%26amp;t=58305 Again, i''m only thinking out loud. Maybe some of you can let me know if this is at all possible? thx

RE: Can I create a simulation of a European city square in SkUp?
You can just import buildings from the warehouse, or you can build them yourself.
It's generally a good idea to have the most detailed buildings in the front, and the most simplistic in the back. The simplest buildings (box models) need only one or two textures (one for the facade and one for the roof)
You can build very detailed buildings and add 3 or 4 textures (one wall texture, one roof, one wood, one glass texture, etc) http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/s613/Lzoli18/Tiger%20Tank/final2_zpsc4bc61b1.jpg and http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/s613/Lzoli18/Tiger%20Tank/final1_zps5e1ee45a.jpg

RE: Can I create a simulation of a European city square in SkUp?
It takes some imagination. It's hard to model / texture every building, but you can just look at various pictures of the town, download some buildings off the SU warehouse (there are hundreds of free models of buildings there) and place them in a convincing manner. You might want to use google earth, or google search a satellite photo of your town square. Drag the photo into SU, and use it to place the buildings. Enable shadows and you are done!

Railway Painting
This was made using a render and photoshoping over it. I tried to make it have a picture postcart sort of look.

RE: Forest House Octane Renders
Awesome renders. Those trees look perfect. Never heard of this before. Is Octane a seperate program that can import skp or is it implemented in sketchup like Vray?

RE: Latest Train
Thanks. The wheels are hard to see because they are hidden inside the frame.
