    • How to make it real?

/edit/ i forgot my VfS version is 1.05.something, cant tell cuz its rendering rite now /edit/
Hello dear Sketchucation forum dudes, its been a while since my last post.

From that time ive learn a lot of stuff just by reading around i can now use more of the Vray features and that is all thank to you guys.

Now from time to time ive been playing with settings all around and sometimes i get a photorealistic image, well maybe NOT photorealistic, but it does look far more real than using the settings that came with vray.

Ive read the manual several times, sometimes it work liek a charm other times it just adds render time with no visible improvement.

So anyways my question is from your experience, how do you manage your settings? what kind of GI engines work better and for what? (like exterior or interior etc) what about the bump mappings you use a lot multiplier? (i know i do β˜€ )

Here is one of my earlier stuff
      emitter.jpg

And this is what i have to do (a project of urban regen wich includes LOTS of stuff like street section, facades, elevations, site plans, constructing details and whatnot πŸ˜• )
      Work in progress
Final render is going to be big enough to fit on a 36x24 paper with a couple more renders.

thx in advance for your time

    • Vray Animation Settings

Im doing this college project, and im trying to make a good animation, i know the basics of animation, like batch render, outputs etc etc

Ive been using Irradiance map + Monte-Carlo (pretty much, allmost all settings are set to default).
monte carlo GI are 8, 3 (subdivs, secondary Bounces)
      IM are -3, 0, 0.3
      50, 20, 0.1
      0.1
(yes i know its a weird way to put settings but that was all my brain could give at this time)

My question is, ive set the animation to run at 30 fps BUT somethimes it seems a lil bit below 30, the animation isnt that fluent, what can i do?

The other question is there ANY way to make shadows look more sharp and without "noise" without pumping the Image sampler - threshold to 0.005 and the DMC sampler to 0.005

AND how can i make everything to look more realistic? Aside from using good materials and lighthing

Heres the link to the animation (WORK IN PROGRESS)

      Thx dudes πŸ˜„

    • RE: Vray + Sketchup Settings

SO i made a lil video containing some "special" vray settings...
the most difficult part were the batch render + dr somehow i managed to make the 3 pcs run their cores to 100%, then i did something and they work 100% then 0 and so on...

      heres the video

ill post some pics later on...

ill take any advice involving vray settings...

    • RE: Vray + Sketchup Settings

forget about the previous attachement πŸ˜›

So heres a broken model i use to try new settings....
this time the cgi was off and for background i used a crapy stars image i just found, with physical camera (still) shutter speed 300 and ISO 120, 3 lights of 100 w each and somehow i see it 2 bright... there has been a lot of changes within vray rite?

EDIT: im using the same 100w lights but now im using the inverse sq setting for a more real result...
      EDIT2: uhm....
      Edit3: hows that?

      OH the stars...

but... where are the light bulbs?! XD

perhaps on a finished model and with materials...

YUP im using that Vray Version 1.05.30 and yes i use physical camera (still) normal settings
My Gi is 1 and without type i forgot to mention when i used a previous version of Vray whenever i didnt override the suns paramters and i set the hour over 6 in the afternoon or something i used to get a all in red render...
Seems like i dont have that problem with this new version =D

Cant remember the whole set of settings XD

    • Vray + Sketchup Settings

Yes, im a newbie, yes im a student πŸ˜„

SO... i was looking for some help making some night renders, i cant figure out the cgi settings, or should i just turn off the sun? in a previous version of vray for SU it would make the render totally black, and sometimes using a 0.N multiplier resulted in a WAY too dark render...

AND i know theres a difference between indoor scenes and outdoor scenes, and poking vray setting here and there ive seen huge differences between renders...

So what im asking for are sweet vray settings for SU, i kinda get the basics of how most of the settings work, BUT seeing what you guys can do... im jelous and i want your settings!!!

      πŸ˜„

(and yes english is NOT my native lenguaje as u can see)

    • RE: V-Ray SketchUp texture question

      @thomthom said:

Use Sketchup to position and scale your textures. Then what you see is what you get.

Thank you for answearing so fast!!!
but maybe im missing something, it appears to work with a material with only the diffuse bitmap... bump and something else and they stop reacting to the texture position in SU

    • RE: V-Ray SketchUp texture question

This thing is driving me insane...
I know that in artlantis u can change the material size and angle in a very user friendly way....
What i want to know is HOW do i do that in vray, ive been reading about the inches and the mm in other posts and ive been changing the UVW transform with no good results.... my material gets render in a tiny little size...

the material im using is a .vismat thingie... but ita happens the same even when i do the mat from scratch with bitmaps for diffuse bump etc...

so basically my question is HOW can i resize the material im aplying?
