    • RE: SU to DWG workflow?

      Thanks Dave for the reply

I have tried lots of things to get a smooth finished in the export not all the time it comes out clean.

Yes i know what you mean about Autocad, im an engineer so can help myself as i do like the control and precision with AutoCAD. i suppose its just what im used to.

I would like to try revit or maybe tekla for steelwork but funds are limited also im only using a MacBook pro at the moment with two screens.

what are the predictions with SU? is it here to stay? is the developers moving forward with the product or is it stagnating?

I can see on YouTube some influences who promoted SU extensively are not make videos on revit etc and showing how they can be used etc. Is this a sign people are moving away from SU?

      thanks

    • RE: SU to DWG workflow?

Im using AC LT so unfortunately i can't use this option.

Looking on this forum and seeing some people results with SU to produce CD is very impressive.

    • SU to DWG workflow?

      Hi All

I would be interested in hearing how you optimise your SU to DWG (AutoCAD) export?

I am still little torn on using SU for everything and i still find my self exporting files to 2D DWG to creat drawings in AutoCAD. However i am finding it more and more annoying doing clean ups which is actually counter productive in my work flow.

please see attached snip of an example i can't seem get right when i export from SU. I am having to spend ages cleaning the exported DWG.

I am prodometly mechanical/ civils bias, I am a project engineer and do a lot of plant pipework designs and new installs for the water industry. I am slowly getting more into steel designs also.

I would be interested also in seeing peoples construction documentation workflow examples of mechanical or steelwork and seeing what can be achieved in SU layout.

      thank you

    • Make Ortho Views?

      Hi All

Im after a quick tool that can turn models into ortho views that i can export out into AutoCAD. I have seen there used to be this plugin seen in this link http://www.smustard.com/script/MakeOrthoViews. Does anyone know what happened to this?

i know i can do the manually but Im trying to get quicker with my workflow. It would be great if this plugin is still around or if some one can creat a new one maybe?

      thanks

    • Engineering/ structural/ steelworker

      Good afternoon all

I have been using sketch-up for about a year now, so I feel like I'm pretty familiar with the software. I have also been using AutoCAD for many years and use it part of mu work flow.

I want to broaden my abilities with SU in my workflow. Is it possible air nyone can help me point me in the right direction with the following?

most of my work is plant room install/ steel work/ architectural design

FYI: I am using a MacBook Pro at the moment

      • a quick bolt maker (i did have a plugin but it doesn't appear to work anymore)
      • a quick way to explode assemblies so all the items are separated for illustration
      • a plugin that can produce quick 2d views (projection views without having to go through the different views)

I have met a guy who had some tools created for him that can produce handrail and mesh flooring with a click of a button all to the correct standards. It was quite amazing to see, he draws the lines for the handrail route and hit a button, and it set it all out with the correct spacing, spacing away from the corners, shows him the infill meshes also. I'm not sure profile builder can do that, I did have a go, but it can't deal with the corners for the handrail angle and spacings.

I would be interested to see examples of structural/ plant room install examples. I have never used 3skeng as it comes at a high price. I have managed so far without but i would be interested to see if anyone has used it to a high capability.

      Thanks

    • RE: Couple of issues with SU 2021?

      @dave r said:

It's not uncommon for third party extension and application makers to update their products for a new version of software. It's different when all of that stuff comes from in house because it is typically all updated before the release.

For future updates you might consider waiting a couple of weeks to allow those third parties to test and issue their updates.

FWIW, if you haven't already done so, you should install the SCF Extension (go to Resources at the top of the forum page and click on Plugin Store Download, download the extension and install it via Install Extension in the Extension Manager.) Then use it to install extensions that you get from Sketchucation. It will help you ensure you have the most recent versions of your extensions installed and it'll keep a list (bundle) of those extensions so you can install them automatically if you move to a new computer or when you update to the next version of SketchUp.

      thanks for the quick reply.

that's what i love about SU, so many little nice surprises and plugins that help alot.
