Hi !
I was asked by a friend of mine to retrieve the buildings surrounding the door of Brandebourg in Berlin from Google Earth.
I thought this would be easy ( ) but it seems some buildings can be downloaded (the main one with the columns and the one on its right). These are highlighted in blue when rolling over. But the others don't seem to be downloadable...
I don't have much time to investigate this but I thought maybe someone has come across this before and will be willing to share this exciting ( ) experience with me!
Thanks a lot!

Hi Nicolas, unfortunately most of the silhouettes are from a resource book I bought, so I cannot share them here. Dancing people are not easy to find, might make sense to trace some photos.
I've spotted some at Formfonts, but that's not free.Have enjoyed watching your work on your blog, curious to see what you have in the making...
Hi!
Thank you very much for your your reply!
I think I'll go and trace some of these dancing maniacs then! (--> )
That way I'll have something to share with you disco guys
Thank you for your nice comment! It actually means much coming from you for I really like your work on lighting A LOT!
To be honest, you reminded me there's a link to my blog on my profile... Had completely forgotten about that...
Thanks again, take care!

Love watching your "render this" threads Solo!

Hi Shura,
I'm raising this thread from the dead because I'm working on a disco scene and I was wondering if you would share these face me people from your scene...
I looked for similar silhouette shapes but couldn't find anything as good...
So in the end I decided to overcome my embarrassment and ask you this favor!
Again, thanks so much for your very inspirational work (I'm working on an event right now and I have no doubt your work has influenced me a lot - I'll post some views soon hopefully!).
Thanks!
Nicolas
Hi,
I just wanted to thank you for these images. I have seen many amazing models and renders since I started browsing SketchUcation but I'd never seen such nice event/show lightings before.
I'm not going to bother you with questions on your workflow but lighting being my next priority I can only tell you your post is very inspirational!
On the portfolio issue, I found Blogger is a great easy way to keep my portfolio efficiently (I hope... ) organized.
Hope you'll enjoy your new orientation as you obviously enjoyed your time as a designer so far!
Thanks for these, take care,
Nicolas
Well I'm truly impressed by your texturing and post-pro!
I didn't quite understand your technique for positioning the grass overlay though
Could you explain this a bit more please?
Fantastic images really! Thanks for sharing!
Nicolas
Thanks for sharing bru !
This really makes me wanna work harder ! Thanks for that !

Hi,
I'm about to purchase a laptop which might be the most important decision I'll have to make in my entire life (come on, let's face it, that's even coming before marriage, children or tax fraud ).
So, before making such a big decision, I thought I might look for your experts' advice on the 2 finalists given that :
I'd like to use it for modeling and rendering with Thea (what else ? ) ;
I'd like it to be 16' with a numeric pad ;
I'd like it not to be over 1500 โฌ...
Now I think I'm gonna go for one of these two:
http://www.grosbill.com/4-asus_g60j_jx031v_bleu_-99072-ordinateurs-portable_jeux
or
The only difference between the two is memory 8GB in the G60JX vs 4 GB in the G60J and graphic card
GeForce GTS 360M vs GeForce GTX 260M...
The thing I don't understand is the cheapest one also seems to have the most interesting specs...
Can anyone tell me what it is I missed?

Hi !
Well I like it a lot ! From my point of view, it's pretty good considering the modelling/rendering time (underestimated factor...) !
I've seen some of your recent renders and found them excellent but didn't dare congratulate you out of shyness ( )... This one definitely convinced me to break the ice !
Congrats !

more editing... how about this ?
use kerkythea preset #19..35 phases it took about 3hr and 55 minute
Hmmm... Well I think maybe a couple of things can still be improved.
I can think of :
1- adding a jpg in the Self luminance tab / Radiance of your white board material : this will create a self lluminant material like a tv screen you'd watch in the dark...
2- try to insert a global sky or some global HDRI. THis will bring some natural reflections to your scene ;
3- maybe some more work on the materials like the columns (they look a bit flat to me... I dunno...) ;
4- maybe place a plant or flower in the foreground and try to move your camera again to catch the plant and the room.
OK well, I hope you'll find this more useful than annoying... And again, experiment with Kerkythea, browse their forum and even maybe post your Work in Progress on KT's forum. Lots of amazingly nice people out there too !
Waiting to see more !

Leminilab: If you have access to Twilight render (on PC) you can add lights quite easily (I'm sure Kerkythea or others would do the job as well). Otherwise, you will need to add them in post as you suggest. This is not complicated, but requires some experimentation. In Photoshop one way to do it is to add a layer above your rendered image (Screen blend mode) and using a soft brush in the right color begin to paint over the areas where the light would be cast. For each color of light create a separate layer. Reduce the opacity of the brush as you get farther from the light source. There are other ways to achieve this with layer masks, all depends on what you prefer to do. If you take time you can actually achieve a result that is just as good if not better than using render software.
I agree that light is needed in the low foreground to give a little more interest to the image. Keep in mind though, that adding light there will expose the two-dimensionality of the people, so I wouldn't shed much light on them. As for the lady in the frame I don't see the problem you are seeing, because I don't know where the light source is.
I think this is a great image..really sets a mood for the space.
Thank you so much for your time !
Well the image is sold already and again, the client liked it so I'm already very happy with it. The only thing is when I submitted it to the client, he wanted these additional color lights in the foreground. Problem is again I had no time to re-render the scene... So I had to admit I wasn't sure to get a good result in post-pro ... THe client really didn't care and was already very pleased for I had very little time to do the image (24 hours : from Wednesday to Thursday...) BUT I really want to try the technique you're describing to make sure I can face such a request next time !
So thanks for this even though I feared the solution would imply brushing and hence talent... which I lack...
I must say I was hoping for a more technical way to do it (Filter/effects/add nice lighting in the foreground... ).
Thanks again !

A modification project with lobby and meeting room
first post... render with kerkythea echo 2008
Critics are wellcome thanks...
Hi !
Well I'm not sure what I'm about to write is of interest but here I go !
First, I find the room a bit empty and lacking life. For example I think a couple of papers and pens on the desks, some mugs on the table, paintings or posters on the wall could bring more "life" to your views. Also, the chairs pattern on your second view seem a bit too regular. Maybe a rotation or two...
I like your lighting though there seems to be an overexposed area over the backwall screen on #2.
Maybe a little more bump map could enhance the whole (like on the tiling on the first one.
Final thing to me : I think you could find some better view angles.
It's all very personal and I really hope this will help you ! I'm waiting to see more !
Oh and Kerkythea is greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat ! Sorry but I had to sya it again...
Hi,
Well I just finished a job for an event party and I'd like to have your experts opinion.
Actually, I'd rather say I need some advice on lighting. Not as much on 3d lights (I sure need to improve things in that area too...) but more on post-pro lighting.
I was asked to add some colored lights on the ground of the picture below and I don't know how to do it so that it blends well with the rest of the picture... SO if any of you have a tutorial to redirect me to or even a short explanation on how to achieve this miracle , this would be great !
Oh and I'm not very satisfied with the lady who's supposed to be suspended in the air from a rail... Did a face me component but the shadows are wrong : any idea how to correct that also ?
So thanks again !
Keep It Real !

Once you have chosen your circle tool, the box in the lower right hand corner of your SketchUp window will have a box which will say "sides". The number in the box will by default be 24. Type in the number of segments you would like the circle to be broken into, say 48, and it will double the amount, and make it more "circular". Remember though that this will also increase you poly count.
Thanks Dale !
Actually, I'm not sure the number of sides is the problem since my first render was made using a 24 sides circle.
Seems like rotating and copying 24 sides doesn't make a circle...
I don't know if I made myself clear... But I'm still wondering if it's possible to assemble a circle that way ?
@ Solo :
It's glass. It's a project from Pierre Charpin who is a designer living in the town next to mine. To be honest I wanted to model his glasses and show them to him as a way of introducing him to 3D Visualization... Turned out not as easy as I thought...
Or rather I didn't choose the right tools to do it... Still learning !
@ xrok1 :
Maybe I'll ask him if that was his plan !

I figured this out just after reading your first post. I don't know why I had engaged on this wrong track... Tools on Surface + Joint PushPull... Maybe because I find these two plug-ins amazing and really wanted to try them !
BIG THANKS anyway for clearing my vue !
SCF power !
I think I got it ! Thanks all !
I'll post an update if I make it !
