This is cool. I wish i could do this even not knowing about the circle setting. Excellent work!

    • RE: [WIP]Executive suite

I have a technical construction question regarding the metal or gold decorative motif in the executive suite office above. We are in the process of construction and I need to give some direction to the carpenter. Has anyone had any experience in making this type of construction? Would the emblem be overlayed or routed into the wood? The emblem is a metal with a gold look. I'm looking for the best method in achieving this look. Would CNC be involved?

      Thanks

Make that script work for google sketchup and you can retire. πŸ˜† But I know there is no such thing as retiring when you love what you do.

      Thanks Guy's,

But I'm aware of most of what you all are suggesting and have done what has been suggested but no luck. I know the problems but there are no easy solutions that I've found. Sketch up does not handle hatch well. The plan was done in autocad first.

Correction for Terry - Autocad is the most used software amongst architectural firms here in the US interms of doing construction docs. Terry Dont get me wrong. Autocad is a necessary evil in my industry. Until we can find somethiing better or the majority of the industry dumps it we will have to use it in our workflow. I'm trying to stream line and take advatage of lines already drawn by someone else on acad. It would be perhaps best to re-texture the surface in sketchup to match the grid pattern in autocad. If someone has a better way let me know. I already know the problem which to this point I am not to convinced of a good solution. Ultimately the lines were to show up in a Kerkythea rendering using a wire porcederal shader.
What was the method Ithil used to do his floor? I'm sure it was in a CAD program, no.
The pattern I'm showing should be a piece of cake.

      Didier,

I was able to download and install the file and it appears to be working at first glance.
      Is there any documentaion anywhere?
      I downloaded from sourceForge today.

      Thanks Simon,

I downloaded from that site and it appears to load. I will let you know my results once I have a chance to test it.
Crazy bump was good becuase it created several maps at once. I hoping this one does the sametime and had a great viewer.
Smart normal is good for quick normals. I have no idea about gimp. I would thinig that photoshop would have had a 1 button solution for this in a free plugin, no?

Has anyone gotten the ssbump generator to work?
It just what I need to make bump and normal maps.
I get an error message and it won't load.
Its a free program if you would like to try.

Boofredlay OMG! you have a fix for the tool bar? They never stay in the same spot as you enter and exit sketchup. I don't have time to rearrange them every freakin time I open and close SU. What's your solution?
      I'm using SU7.

    • RE: Strange surface behavoir

Making a texture probably would be the best idea. But this texture did not have ruled lines. Is there a tutorial in photoshop on how to make ruled lines on a texture in photoshop. It comes up so often. It was easier for me to just import the acad lines. I could have perhaps made a procedural in Kerky but I would have 3 diff materials for each pattern of rotation.
      My method was as follows:

      1. A plane was made first.
      2. Then textured.
      3. Then imported acad lines (acad stands for autocad for those not familiar its the most used cad program on the planet I think). A lot of times the paving lines and hatch pattern are already done in CAD. It was just easy to use them again in SU.
      4. The lines were moved to the surface of the textured face and intersected with model.
Apparently not all lines intersect nicely. Another option is to use drape tool which has it issues with doing something similar.

It may be the imperfect transfer from autocad to sketchup that may be the problem.

      Better yet...Here's the file.
Some of the behavoir removed by intersect with model. But its still behaving strangly.

    • Strange surface behavoir

Surface with strange behavior. Is there a way to solve this anomoly?
there should only be one square highlight but when a touch one it highlights an entire group.
The lines are interscted with plane. It's causing problems with rendering in Kerkythea.
Each square must be its own surface to render the lines properly.

    • RE: Photomatch exterior photo w interior model?

I dont know what the building is like inside but i presume it has objects in front of the windows where a perfect shot cannot be possible. Just trying to plan ahead of time. I really think the best way givin the building is existing is to take a skyline photo from outside the building.

    • Photomatch exterior photo w interior model?

I have a request to do an interior rendering for a potential client.
They want to see the actual skyline. What would be the best way to do this? Would I need to take a picture from the exterior right up againist the building? Or would I lean out the building and take a picture on the floor where one would be standing? I know I will have to mask the photo some how and make it belivable.

Is it posible with ruby to place a component perpendicular to a point on an a face or curved surface just by selecting the point on the face? The component axis would of course have to be relative.

    • RE: Rotate copy multiple

If anyone has used copy rotate in autocad they will get what i'm trying to do. When I copy rotate in su I always have to grab the center point of the radius for each copy. This is more time consuming than autocad's way. in autocad once you have your center point you can manully pick the points to copy to with out starting over.
The supporting bracket in the image needs to be copied to each vertical joint. The joints are not all equally spaced, so I cannot simply used "3x" method to copy.

I want to copy rotate the supporting brackets to all the verticle joint locations.

      Hope this is clear,

BTW there are about 30 brackets along the arc.

      Thanks,
