RE: Artlantis?
Hi Stinkie,
I am sorry to hear about that job interview.
Guess you acted on your gut feeling...and you're right.
Guys like that are not worth it to be working for.
Better step out soon than getting hooked in a job where you don't feel happy.I'll keep my fingers crossed for other opportunities. You're talented so Karma will go your way.
Cheers mate!,
Chris

RE: Indigo GPU
An 8800 GT works fine when running Arion Render (another GPU based renderer) here. So I guess it should work as good with the new Indigo.

RE: OMG! fur plugin is AMAZING!
I simply love that last image . It puts a smile on my face.
The fur plugin is great.
It is still unbelievable that google didn't make a 64 bit version of sketchup, so we can export higher poly models like these with ease to our render apps.(32 bit limits the RAM usage).
It would make life so much easier (fur, trees, etc...) -
RE: SU8 - WISHLIST
64 bit. It is about time it happens.
No excuses are valid anymore. -
RE: Bonzai3D - double take
Hey, this is a great thread.
You are using the exact same approach I would take when I would learn new 3D software like B3D.
Diving into it with the SU knowledge we have and see how it goes...First thing that strikes me is: it's not Sketchup
I'll be following this with great intrest...

RE: What is it?
Keyhole!
I'll have my breakfast in Perth Australia, thank you very much

RE: Push Pull Swallow Button (What's swallowed gets erased)
If I understand you correctly, you want a push pull tool that deletes all the geometry intersecting.
That is actually a nice idea. PushPull + Boolean substraction in 1 tool...Perhaps a ruby guru picks up on this idea? -
RE: Can a car be art?
...and great intermezzo's these little discussions are, Pete

RE: Can a car be art?
@solo said:
so.... a car driving on the road is a car, but in a gallery it becomes art?
No, think it through Pete. It's about the idea behind what the artist wants to express.
I can't imagine putting a car in a showroom would make it art just like that...but when it is modified etc...to express a powerful thought, concept or emotion than yes, off course.Hey Pete, I would have expected you would be the first one to be thinking out of the box . A bit disappointing? , as I consider you to be an artist yourself. ...
As a personal note, I really like the concept of art to be relieved from any 'estethic' rules.
Estethics gets in the way of creation of ideas. Off course, art can still be 'beautiful', but it doesn't have to.
Take Stinkies work for example. I don't find his photos 'beautiful', but I admire the way he can transfer an emotion like 'emptyness' with it... -
RE: Can a car be art?
Off course a car can be art. To me that is evident.
It all depends on how and in which circumstances it is presented and what the artist wants to evoke with it.An example to illustrate: the 'urinoir' of Marcel Duchamps (early 20th century Dadaism):
On its own, a urinoir is a simple useful object, but placed in an extraordinary situation, it can evoke the surrealism of 'banality'. -
RE: Run Windows 7 on your Apple iPad!
Indeed, the ipad should have had MacosX instead of IphoneOS.
Then we could run bootcamp on it and enjoy all our software through Windows, including Sketchup....
It would be awesome to use SU on your lap while on the sofa with just the use of a pen.Is Sketchup optimised for using it with a pen (or finger), by the way?

RE: SketchUp versions of Arroway Textures
Thank you al. This is useful. Much and much better than the default SU material library.

RE: Searching for a good 3D PDF creator
Thank you Ashraf and Gaieus.
I will do what Gaieus suggested and install the demo at work first (monday) to be sure the issue was local.
After that I 'll post my findings here. -
RE: Searching for a good 3D PDF creator
The plugin doesn't do the export properly on my box at home.It just doesn't react when I click it from the menu.
As I remember now, I already tried this plugin some months ago (how I could I forget? ), and remember having a similar issue.
I might reinstall SU 7.1 and start cleaning up my plugins folder, as my SU install is starting to show cracks .
Otherwise I install it straight to the PC at work on Monday...If anyone tried it, a few comments about this product would be helpful.
Basically, we would want to use a 3D PDF creator in our office to be able to share 3D models which are non-editable to consultants and/or clients if they ask for it.
There is an alternative option to use Navisworks for it. We have some Pro licenses of Navisworks, but the issue is that the free version our clients/consultants would have to use to view the files is a 650 Mb download and a typical pain in the ass Autodesk download that is (registering etc...) .
650 MB is just overkill just to be able to view and navigate a 3D file. -
RE: Searching for a good 3D PDF creator
For the moment I am attracted to the Simlab one as it is reasonably priced..but I seem to have a problem running the demo.

Thanks for the info guys.
Lost of stuff to try out... -
RE: Searching for a good 3D PDF creator
Thanks Gaieus for your answer.
Could you spill me the links to the two plugins you are referring to?
I'd be happy to try them out. -
Searching for a good 3D PDF creator
Hi all,
As in the title, I am looking for a good 3D PDF creator that works well with Sketchup.
Preferably free, but I don't want to exclude commercial products either.
I am mostly interested in the unbiased opinion of users, not so much in the opinion of developers, if you know what I mean ...although I don't want to exclude anyone from participating.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions,
Kind regards,
Kwistenbiebel
