It's already possible to develop Ruby plugins for SU, right?
I'm not too sure if I'd just share the code if I'd own SU. Money makes the world go 'round

Is Google actually generating a lot of income with Pro version? I doubt that...
And be honest...what did actually change to the 'modeler' part of SU pro since Google took over. Not a lot right?
I doubt if Ruby is strong enough to really make SU evolve. SU needs improvement to the core itself imho.

      Well, there you go, eh!
Another nail in the SU Pro coffin!

Mmmm...as some people don't like the way SU is evolving (=mostly Pro users etc..) right now, I was thinking: Why not going Open Source with sketchup Pro?

      Just an idea...
I am sure there is room for a modeler besides Blender that is open source right?
Or maybe Sketchup can be part of the Blender foundation?

In this way Sketchup users can benefit from the Blender qualities and also the other way around: the Blender community would have an easy arch modeler they miss right now.

It could be very beneficiary to further development in my opinion...:

SU FREE for the Google masses and SU PRO as an open source part of Blender.
      That sounds good to me...

Hey ...great light setup solo. 😄
The object can use some more smoothing though.

      Cool model and great render.

'Sharpness': Is that an alternative way of saying 'glossiness'?
Sometimes I wish all render apps would use the same render lingo 😄.

      Looks interesting Al.
I am curious what degree of photorealism can be reached.
Any examples of real looking stuff?

Thanks solo for those tips on Poser imports in SU.
Is it true that Poser 5 is a better match for Sketchup as Poser 6 because the polycount of the models is lower?

      Thanks,

      Nice collection Solo,
You are quite a productive and creative personality.

You also seem to be able to give your images that 'something more'.
      Very refreshing and always interesting.

Solo, could you describe in a few words the best method to get a poser model in Sketchup?
(export and import methods to keep uv-mapping in place)

      Cheers and thanks for sharing,

      Hi Solo,
Not only on the Podium forum but also here: you always impress us with wonderful imagery.

It's just amazing how exquisite your SU modeling skills are.
Also your character building is awesome.
I would love to see you in action while you are modeling these kind of things...seeing is learning.

      Thanks for sharing Hippie!

      Ouch....this is waaaay to awesome
      Very sexy.

You make me jealous, you hippie

By the way, is this official 1.4.1 Podium or internal beta ('carotene')?
( Doesn't that floor bump map need to be inverted?)

I still need to learn Poser for better character making.

That latest bathroom image is richer in terms of color (flatness on ceiling is gone).
Great work and really nice texturing !!

I would die to own a VW van like that. They're very expensive here in Belgium.
The strange thing is that you actually need to be quite a kapitalist to own such hippie wheels.

    • RE: Podium Renders

      Nice one Solo,
The thing I like especially is that you 'hard modeled' some tile bump here and there. In combo with a bump map on the tile texture, this becomes very realistic.

One little crit maybe: there isn't a lot of colour bouncing around on walls and ceiling (kind of flat gray). Did you consider using somewhat 'off' whites?

    • RE: FF Exchange Models goes public

      Alan,
      Nice initiative...

But just to be clear about it...:
The uploaded models still remain property of the modeler, right?

At the bottom of every Formfonts web page is stated:
Form Fonts® © 2007. All artwork and content is property of Form Fonts® and is subject to all copyright laws.

I would still like to be able to put my own models on 3D warehouse as well, or do whatever I want with them ...
It would be strange to upload my model to FF and later on not being able to post it elsewhere because it became property of FF....

Could you fill us in on this Alan?

      Thanks.

I love the way you modeled the roof tiles.
Texturing in general is great as well.

Just a little finetuning in some aspects and you'll have a super shot.

BTW: what's going on over at Asgvis forum? It seems the Vray forum is getting slow without the input of dev. team...

    • RE: CatchUP - Mannequin

The mannequin really looks pro modelled.
Is there some tutorial on organic modeling in SU somewhere?

To be honest I would love to be able to model like that, but I don't really understand the use of Bezier, splines, soap skin and bubble, and advanced use of sandbox.

I would love to see some tutorial about that, covering all elements of organic SU modeling.
Apparantly, SU DOES have organic potential but the "how to's" are so tedious.

Also, could a Sketchucation member put a list of all the useful 'organic modeling' rubys together?
To be honest, I am in the blue on which rubies to use (and how 😄 )

I saw on PPB someone doing a very convincing car design (He entered a car design competition with it, go reckon).

So if anyone would be so kind 'tutting' organic modeling, I would be very very grateful.

      And Frv,
I kind of second the things you say about the 'stand still' in development of Sketchup by Google.
Also I think Sketchup really has the potential to be a top modeler if development would start again.
My gratitude goes to the Ruby programmers that code some really usefull tools. However it would also be great if the Sketchup 'core' would be dealt with.
If only the 'memory leak' thing in Sketchup would be solved it would truely be a major improvement to start with.

      Cheers,

      Hi Cheffey,

      Great renderings man !
Are you planning to model more of these nice products?
The modeling is really good, clean and pragmatical.
I wish I had the same skills as you have.

(Maybe a little hint on the chrome using Podium: I found out that metals render better if you assign a very dark grey to the chrome objects and add refelection 100% to them.)

      Thanks Guys 😄

Actually I have made some more......

You can download them from the thread I made on the Podium render forum....
Some are kind of High on poly count but with good layer management it should work.
Maybe I will make some 'cleaner' and thus lower file sized species.

      http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/supodiumforum/vpost?id=2046893&trail=#12

In that thread I also Re-posted the 'tree factory' SU file and the tutorial on how to use it.
I hope some people would like to help to create some more trees this way?...

Here an example of a Willow tree I made:
