Sorry to clip so much good info from your quote Frederick πŸ˜‰ and zoom in on a detail, but I can see benefits in showing a render of just an Xfrog tree.
It can actually be very educational because a lot is involved to get it right. What import settings to use to get it 'clean' in Sketchup. How to setup clipmaps for the leaves etc....

I can see the benefits for people that want to add a nice tree in their renderings of Sketchup models. The same goes for adding 3d people or 3d cars in scenes.

Learning things from one another is one of the ingredients of the glue that holds a community like this together.

Not sure if I want to pay for it but it definitely sounds great to be able to 'Skew' objects.
      Very nice idea!

      Looking good RickW.

Is there a way we can also purchase the plugin at a fixed price?
      That would suit me better.

Is it possible to post some examples of highly detailed photoreal tree-cut outs made with the plugin?
How does it cope with the halo effect (close to the boundary edges) that often is difficult to avoid when using clip maps in render software?

      Thanks in advance,

      Hi guys,

I just come in after a pleasant night out (yes Gaeius there was 'some' beer πŸ˜„).
This has become quite a lively discussion.
Not bad, a good discussion is cool from time to time, certainly on a friday to let some steam off before entering the weekend.

I wanted to say to Coen that I understand your concerns and that being part of a team that runs a big community like this one isn't always the easiest job, but you guys are doing it well imho.

Don't let a difference in opinion demotivate you to keep on doing the job.
Things like this happen. You shared your opinion and I did likewise.
Whether renderings are posted here or elsewhere on the forum isn't that important. (I am sure you guys will sort things out).
Being able to share opinions though I consider very important.
The fact that people react to this in a passionate way is proof that this community is alive!

      Wow Jason,
      Things are really coming together.
The scene really is growing up and the degree of realism is really high.
Maybe it is time to start thinking about the actual size of the card it will be printed on to finalise the arrangement of the objects.

Have you thought of making it a foldable card?
I can imagine on the front page a rendered shopping list (placed on the same table (actually it can be just part of a very wide rendering that get's folded).
This shopping list can contain some funny ingredients to make those christmas cookies and is also suited to put your wishes on.

      Just an idea.

I love it already, even if the previous image would be the final one.
Great job and I think people will love to get one in their mailbox.

      Cheers,

      Well Coen,

I won't leave the forum and I will keep on contributing to the forum in a way that suits me. (general section etc...).
I just won't be posting my work (and play) in the gallery section anymore.

But isn't he also using Maya to rig up his characters?
And isn't Solo using 3dsMax and Poser to make his beautiful poses?

Kwist, can you please stick to posting artwork that was actually 'made' in SketchUp, rather than artwork imported into SketchUp? This is a SketchUp renders forum, meaning models we create in SketchUp and render using other software. If we start posting imported geometry then soon we will indeed see ZBrush renders here as well, imported into SketchUp. It is not SketchUp work, it is other 3D apps work, which doesn't belong here. So please stop posting this stuff.

I have no issues with SketchUp work that contains some imported objects from other 3D apps, but use common sense to determine yourself when something is generally called a SketchUp project and when it becomes artwork created with other 3D apps with some imported SketchUp content.

I'm only posting this here because you recently already posted that female figure render.

      Thanks in advance. πŸ˜„

      Ouch, 😳
I am surprised by your reply Coen, and it makes me sad not be allowed to post my creative doodles.
Guess I am done posting anything new on the sketchucation gallery after reading your opinion.

Actually the model of the two fighters is a Sketchup model I found on 3Dwarehouse from the hand of Max Grueter. On his website he states he's using C4D for modeling the characters. After the modeling is done he exports to Sketchup and posts his wonderful stuff on 3Dwarehouse in .SKP format. (You can find the model here: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=cdb99a191135d79f9be65b44b6b037de)

I merely took his model and tried to render it in a creative way using Sketchup and Podium (which is a typical Sketchup based renderer).

I am sorry to see this is disturbing you so much.

So I guess this means good bye for me....
Soo long Sketchucation ....I had a wonderful time here and you were a good mistress. 😒

I hope to see a lot of you guys on other battlefields.

    • RE: KAPOW! ...and ....PHOOMPH!

Well Roger, I didn't model it myself unfortunately. It's a model of the artist Max Grueter and I believe he does his sh*t in Cinema4D.

You can import all sorts of things to Sketchup, but why can't we model them? 😑
I can't tell you how many times it annoyes me that Sketchup still hasn't got the ability for organic shaping....after so many releases.
I stay hopeful though...and start to learn Silo 3D (and Zbrush for texture painting?)in the mean time as it looks this is the most easy poly subdivider modeler around (and powerful)...
i don't know what software to use to have bones and rigging for characters though.

You just can't learn them all.

    • RE: Female figure on curved up background (not suited for work)

Fry has a Sketchup plugin that contains a pulldown menu and an icon bar.
When you have a material selected in SU's material list and click on the Fry paintbucket icon the Fry material editor pops up. Sun and sky setup has it's own panel, just as the general settings and camera panel.

It takes some getting used to, but after some experimentation it works quite smoothly.
You start the rendering by choosing the export>3dmodel>Fryrender in the file menu of SU.

Once the export is done the FRY standalone GUI will pop up and the rendering starts.
That GUI has a 3D viewport where you can change the view and you can also change mlaterials/environment/camera/render settings over there (actually the same things you can set up through the Plugin itself).
The Fry standalone isn't as elaborate as the Maxwell studio as the developers wanted to make a 100% 'render from host' product.

You can download a demo on the Fryrender.com website.
It is fully operational (though the size image is max.800X600 and watermarked ).
