RE: AutoCAD layout optionlook up viewports. It is possible to have many viewports in a layout, but explaining this on a sketchup user forum seems beside the point. I suggest you look up the Autodesk user forums and launch your search there ? good luck !

 The essence is that you can make scenes without camera positions.
 This way the scene tab behaves like a display mode.
 Per tab you retain full control over displayed layers and such, as mentioned by earlier posts.

RE: .studio console. ++updated with pics++good work. Sketchup is the way to go when aiming for correct abstraction. By this I mean 
 viewers get a chance to muse about materials and such. The resulting dialog I find to be richer than taking the shortcut called photorealism.
