If it's a component then editing one component changes all of them. If it is a group then you have another issue all together because a copy of a group is not linked and they can be altered seperatly. If it is a component and you want to make it a different colour then right click and select "Make Unique", you will now have another component in your list called "Floor#1", you can then change the name to "Kitchen Floor".

@kimberlylarae said: That might explain it. I'm so totally new to this. In school we are told to do it, unfortunately not much is said about how to do it. Today I'm doing a secional sofa and learning groups and the arc tool. As usual, I'm lost. At first I thought it was because I've gone back to school at the age of 40. Now I'm certain I would be lost at any age. kimberlylarae, Looking at your uploaded .skp I have some suggestions. Don't use screentext to point directly to your model. Whenever you orbit or pan it will only be confusing. Avoid using 3D-text for it will increase your file size. 3D-text is just a bunch of edges in components. Dimension important geometry in your model to keep track of changes in size and to stay in control. I've made a sequence of how you could start creating a floor plan. It's just an example though. Thanks again for the feedback on my ruby scripts. Just FYI... The Taper Maker script will draw tapered offsets in addition to tapered extrusions. You access this capability by entering one of the following in the options field on the input dialog: "o" or "offset" or "offsets" When this option is used, the script does not draw a tapered extrusion along your selected path. Instead, it draws four tapered offsets (paths) along your selected path. These paths would be centerlines along the faces of the tapered extrusion "above", "below", "left" and "right" of your path. Here is an example of four tapered offsets around a path: tapered offsets.pdf This option facilitates using one tapered curve as the basis for another as in this metalworking example: taper on taper.pdf HTH
