This is driving me out of my mind, and to make matters far worse, I'm being graded on it for a college class. We had to make a floor plan and raise the wall to 8' 2 3/8" high. OK, sounds pretty easy. I spent 5 days measuring, adjusting, measuring and adjusting, because I would get it perfect but it wouldn't stay that way. Before I knew it the walls would be 8 ft or 4 ft or God knows what. I spent 2 days trying to fix the 8" thick walls. I would get them perfect with the offset tool, but before I knew it they would be all off. Also when I type in a measurement in the lower right hand corner and hit enter the floor plan shoots out into cyberspace, and I have to try to find it and kind of reel it back in. When I do have it back the size is all off. Walls that were 17ft would be 12ft or 9 ft or something simular. I have just had it. I have been working with 3D design software for over 10 years and I've never run into problems like this. My instructor thinks I'm nuts. I'm starting to think so too!

The only thing I can think of that would come close to that kind of behaviour is if you were using the Tape Measure to check a dimension...say a wall length...then typed in the correct measurement and okayed it. This would resize the ENTIRE model (if still ungrouped) or everything within the group if you were inside it. This would cause every single dimension in the model or group to alter, not just the one you were interested in.
Measurements typed into the VCB are not individually parametric.

That might explain it. I'm so totally new to this. In school we are told to do it, unfortunately not much is said about how to do it. Today I'm doing a secional sofa and learning groups and the arc tool. As usual, I'm lost. At first I thought it was because I've gone back to school at the age of 40. Now I'm certain I would be lost at any age.

              kimberlylarae,
Looking at your uploaded .skp I have some suggestions.
Don't use screentext to point directly to your model. Whenever you orbit or pan it will only be confusing.
Avoid using 3D-text for it will increase your file size. 3D-text is just a bunch of edges in components.
Dimension important geometry in your model to keep track of changes in size and to stay in control.

I've made a sequence of how you could start creating a floor plan. It's just an example though.
