    • RE: Question about layers and hidden models

      HI,

Yes, I tried that and it wouldn't work. My exploded lines came back half hidden. I don't understand what is going on with this issue, but is strange to be so locked into a layer once you commit to it. Does anyone have any advice?

    • Question about layers and hidden models

      Hi,

I'm having difficulty with layers, and I will try to explain what is going on. I have a group assigned to a 2D layer and a group assigned to a 3D layer. The 2D layer group is parallel projection top view and I have the 3D layer(perspective view) turned off in the 2D scene. The 3D layer is drawn right on top of the 2D floor plan. When I hit the 3D scene, I have the 3D layer turned on and the 2D layer turned off. This works great. I have many different layers all in the same building location, and all assigned to scenes on or off, so I can easily switch between.
The problem I am having is that if I want to copy the 2D layer floor plan, explode it and bring it in to the 3D layer, although I have exploded the model and is outside the assigned 2D group, I copy and paste in my 3D group, it still remembers it's ancestry or something, for it opens up in the 3D model, only hidden along with the hidden 2D view. This has caused no end of grief and has even forced me to start over again with a new SU file, because I couldn't unassign those sets of line work to be in something else without it appearing hidden. Is there something besides explode that would bring this line work back to a fresh start. Can any one explain what is going on with this..much appreciated..Keea

Can you email me your email address so I can send the file. I've tried attaching on this forum but it isn't able. It is a 14 MB file, so maybe too large.. thanks, Keea

      dimensioning sample4(option A).pngHi Barry,

Thanks for your response. It makes perfect sense how you have explained. I went in and checked my ORTHO setting, and both option A page and option B page are inconsistent, while they both apparently have the same ortho setting, so I still could not correct the problem. I've attached screen shots of the two pages(correct/incorrect) so you might be able to see a setting that I missed. I really need to figure this out, and your example was very clear, but still something amiss with my pages and dimensions....thanks,

      HI,

To help clarify, here is another attachment of another drawing that worked great, and shows what I need to happen, and what happens 60% of the time, the other 40% is a mystery...thanks, Keea

Have you possibly editted the text and adjusted the dimension lines to suit new wall positions? Editted text won't update.

If you rescale/stretch the dimension does the value change?

If you put a fresh dimension in does it give the correct value?

      HI,

No, no text editing was done. I didn't rescale, but yes, when I do it does change the value. Yes, it does give correct dimensions, just not consistently as shown above. I even deleted my SU link, and made a fresh import to try, and still not working. It seems it is something coming from SU, but as I analyze both models, the one that works and the one that doesn't, they are both similar, in that it is just a flat 2D parallel perspective top view of a group of line work....I'm stumped...seems minor, but it is major for what I am doing... thanks,

    • RE: Dimensioning question

      Hi,

the 3/4" was incorrect. I'm not concerned about that, as there was an invisible layer causing this. That isn't the problem, because the same scenario persists where the dimensions are accurate. Sorry for the confusion.

      Hi,

This isn't always the case. Some files do this regardless if I have changed the camera position of my scene in SU. It is something else....hmm...thanks,

      HI,

Here is another screenshot of the next page over where it is working how I need it to work. These two different drawings are referenced from two different SU files. What do you think is the problem? thanks,

    • Dimensioning question

      Hi,

I'm having come trouble getting the dimension tool to be consistent. For example, if I have a rectangle in orthogonal view 20' x 10' and drag the dimension from corner to corner across the rectangle the length is 22' 4 3/8". Now, if I go to drag this line straight out on the axis parrallel to the rectangle, sometimes it gives me 22' 4 3/8" and sometimes it shifts to 20'. Never consistent, and the way I work, I prefer the latter to happen. Does anyone have any experience with this. It is making my dimensioning very difficult, as I am designing many skewed walls in my buildings, and it is kicking out unwanted dimensions....thanks,

    • Shifting scenes in LO

      HI,

I'm having trouble with an inconsistency which is most likely something I'm missing. Sometimes when I 'update reference' it changes the positioning of my model in the paper space of LO? Not all the time, usually it is fine, but when it does move my LO it is a real pain to relocate. It is like it is update from last saved view. Is there a way in some setting I can stop the last saved view from forcing my models in LO from shifting...thanks so much, Keea
