After a quick test I have the impression the boolean is just a bit too complex for SketchUp. It happens (sometimes) and you have to manually clean it up until its a boolean again. Maybe if you try to split the objects in half and mirror them after the boolean it might work.

To clean it up, I would add a sectionplane (and hide the plane) so you can more easily select interior faces that need to be removed. Just continue until the group 'says' solid again.

      why not the lightup player?

Most of my clients don't have powerful / modern computers. If they don't have the proper openGL version, most of the nice effects are gone in the Lightup viewer. That's why I was thinking using a panorama (all the nice effects will be baked into a simple image).
      For stand-alone viewing of panorama's I'm testing now http://www.fsoft.it/panorama/FSPViewer.htm

...Sketchup tells me they´re not solid....

To be able to use booleans, they must be solids. So you have some 'leaking' objects, or self-intersecting objects or...
Install ThomThom's Solid Inspector and you will find the problem more easily.

edit: and/or post your Sketchup file and people can have a look at it.

I'm looking for some software to create panorama's (made from LightUp images- can be cubic, panorama, single strip) that my clients can view in a web browser (swf / html5 / whatever). Before I go buy something like http://ggnome.com/pano2vr, anyone has a good suggestion for a program you used recently for this?

    • RE: What is this SU Maintenance & Support?

      @calypsoart said:

...basically Trimble is raising the price of SU $50 for those who have been satisfied and see no need to upgrade every year. Calling it "support" and "enrollment fee" is disingenuous to me. More like a penalty.

By paying $95 a year you continue to be upgraded to the next Sketchup version. A new suit costs $590 so even if you only upgrade every 6 years you still make a profit.

Isn't this sort of the same problem as the people using a retina Mac are facing? The fact the new super duper high resolutions don't translate well into Sketchup's way of handling text / things?!

Hi guys, each time I open SU 2015, my floating toolbars are not visible.
      ..Does anyone experience this too? I have a reasonably strong PC [i7 3.2Ghz / 16GB RAM / NVIDA GTX670...]..

It happens with my machine (GTX560ti) sometimes although not regularly and not at the start of every Sketchup Session. Selecting something is what normally fixes it if I remember well.

    • RE: Resellers - how long does it take to send new codes?

Turns out there were more resellers in the Netherlands who were having problems. They blame their distributor. After 3 weeks (21 days) I know one reseller that started passing codes. Later that week (25 days) mine came through.

    • RE: Portable Workstations for Sketchup

On a side note: I noticed there are only two aspect ratios available for laptop screens nowadays:
16 : 9 (for instance 1920x1080) and 16 : 10 (for instance 1920x1200). 16:10 almost resembles the golden ratio and gives you more height and less vertical scrolling. Pity it's only used by Apple.
Everybody else has gone for the cheaper 16:9. The argument 'its better for watching movies' is imho not really valid for people who are looking for a (business) laptop. How many people buy laptops for watching movies as the main purpose anyway...

    • RE: Shadow Help

you can achieve this effect by using a 100% transparent png texture with just one single colored pixel in it.

    • RE: Guidelines at fibonacci series spacing?

you could also make a group / component with 3 lines spaced at the golden gauge intervals. If you need to divide any other/new surface just move the group/component and scale it to the desired endpoints. The 'middle' line (golden gauge) will be at the correct scaled position.

Maybe share the sketchup file / images of what you already have modeled and elaborate more whats giving you a problem?

For beginners, I recommend watching 'The Sketchup Show' on Youtube. A beginner will learn a lot from these episodes. Start with episode one and work your way through. I think they have more than 70 episodes now.

      Have you considered DropBox?

My first idea was to look for an application that I could use both on Mac and Windows to sync with my Synology nas. That one automatically gets synced with a friends nas every night. I rather keep my data only on those two.

just for testing: have you tried a different pdf-printer like bullzip? Also, the object behind the text wouldn't have opacity applied to it? If so, did you try different opacity settings in the style?
