      Inteloide,

I believe (but I'm not certain) that way you will fail the checklist for Extension Warehouse... I guess Sketchucation Plugin Store is enough though.

I read somewhere that if you have a file called "plugin.rb" you must have a folder called "plugin"

There are better informed people that might know better though...

      Hi Fredo,

I cannot thank you enough for this amazing plugin. Among every feature, the improvements you've done to follow pushpull are incredible.

There's just something that I don't know if it could be avoided or not but when I use your plugin it always leaves behind the temp layer it requires to work.

Is it possible to make the plugin auto-delete the layer after finishing command?

I know it's just a small detail and it is ridiculous of me to point it out but...

      Thanks for everything,

      Hi everyone,

I've been very active in the forum since I started working with Sketchup but I realized I hadn't posted any work so far... I'll start to correct that right now!

Today I was experimenting with Gimp and I've produced this image of one of our projects. As the title says, it's from an apartment refurbishment we're working on, in the center of Lisbon.

The image is composed of layered Sketchup 2D output, and some very simple effects. I hope you like it!

A new image with the same method:

This seems to definetely be related to GPU.

      1 - Go to Sketchup
      2 - Window > Preferences
3 - Open GL > Disable Hardware Acceleration

      Capturar.PNG

If it works, then check this thread so you can reenable hardware acceleration.

      Quad face tools:

1 - Select loops and rings
2 - Soften selected loops and rings
      3 - Deactivate View > Hidden geometry
4 - Box select everything visible (diagonal lines and faces)
5 - Use selection toys to remove faces

    • RE: What plugins do i need to model this cushion shape?

I have a feeling you can't miss Vertex tools and Selection toys, both by Thomthom...

The best plugin though, would be Blender! Of course it's not a plugin but it's free and you do have notion that your models will be hard to handle in SU, don't you? Better to make them outside and import them as proxies with your favorite renderer.

EDIT: Besides that there is also some plugins that will help you with what you want:

      • Fredo Scale (scaling, stretching, bending and twisting shapes)
      • Extrusion tools and Curviloft (for generating surfaces)
      • Thrupaint and SketchUV for UV mapping, quadface painting, and even UV unwrapping with external apps like Roadkill.

There are more though I'm not really into that, I'm a boxy low poly guy myself...

    • RE: Suggestions to improve Layout

I agree for most things though there are some that I find much more important than others.

I fully agree with the usefulness of Layout and that it as improved greatly over this couple of years I've been using it...

For me the most important features that one should consider removing from layout are:
1 - Having to drag mouse for moving things around wich is cumbersome at best,
2 - Accidental double clicks on viewports (as in your list)
3 - Being forced to move around by dragging wich makes accidental double clicks on the viewport very prone to happen. πŸ˜„
4 - Dragging for moving (again?:P) wich often happens accidentaly when you are trying to box select something and start by clicking on what seemed to be an empty space, but was a viewport box after all, or a text box, or shape box, or a group, or almost any object you draw on layout that might be seen as a white filled box...

This are the things that are most cubersome for me in layout, making it less intuitive.

What's funny is that this is specially true for people that are used to work with sketchup, wich is everyone that works with layout and I can't thing of anyone else...

What's even more funny is that intuitiveness on command functionality is where Sketchup shines and Layout not that much, so why not have exactly the same input methods for both programs? I tend to loose 15 to 30 minutes for adapting myself each time I change from one app to the other though when I started with Layout I was expecting exactly the same intuitiveness of use...

      So:
      1 - I wish I could have an option to move only by pressing "M" (or an icon);
      2 - Rotate only by pressing "R" (or an icon);
      3 - Scale only by pressing "S" (or an icon);
4 - Use bounding box only to have a larger or smaller viewport, text boxes or to reshape dimensions, nothing else...
5 - On viewports scale through "S" should suffice and it would correspond to scaling exactly the image one sees on the viewport. I don't know why but layout has a way of making it difficult to do that either on ortho views or perspective. Checking on and off "preserve scale on resize" will make the viewport jump and recenter itself on the center of scene camera wich is VERY annoying.
6 - Have bounding boxes align to rotated dimensions as to any rotated shape even when we draw them originally rotated (wich is everytime as I guess noone rotates dimensions)
7 - Make Dimensions bounding box "stretch" instead of "scale" dimensions (the distance between reference points and reference lines increases when scaling, messing around with my dotted reference lines that distance should be kept the same when scaling dimensions).

      But for short:

      • Lock viewport for editing while still allowing it to move
      • Ability do disable drag for moving around things, replacing it for "M" or icon on the toolbar.

Note that in SU older than 2014 creating layers with the special flag might cause SU to trigger the Fix Model dialog. That warning is a bug - nothing was messed up, it was the validation code that was wrong. And the Fix Model dialog will reset the flag unfortunately.

Ahhh! So that's why my models needed fixing everytime!...

      Hi Jiminy,

Great updates! The problem is, you keep giving us more, we keep asking for more...

In SU Layers window we can set color to individual layers but not to a group of layers. Wich made me think that with your plugin this would be great!

We could change the color of a group and change all the layers inside it or window select some layers, then changing one, could change all. Maybe selecting a bunch of layers and make all layers same color from the active layer...

Anyway, there might be a way of doing this already that I'm unaware of?

Thanks again, this plugin should be built in SU core...

    • RE: Kerkythea and Sketchup2014

      It's working better than ever.

Erase everything in SU 2014 Plugins folder related to SU2KT (it's no longer on c:\programs (x86)...\Sketchup\plugins\

      Now everything is in:
      C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME-GOES-IN-HERE\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014\SketchUp\Plugins\

No go here and download a zip file.
      http://www.kerkythea.net/cms/index.php/downloads/software

Fastest way to install is to turn your SU2KT3.17+.zip into SU2KT3.17+.rbz, by simply changing extension name.

Then go to sketchup and in the window menu > preferences > extensions > install extension choose the file you turned into rbz.

It should be working fine now...

Those green faces use to happen when SU can't find the icons. You probably have the plugin installed incorrectly.

    • RE: Round holes through, sometimes cylinder faces, sometimes not

      Hi Tim and Tim,

When you create any of the boolean interferences or context menu "intersect faces with..." circles and cilinders cease to be circles or cilinders and become only faces and lines.

Thus if you pushpull a face that was formerly a circle and now is just a bunch of lines it doesn't "soften edges" like in a cilinder from a pushpulled circle.

You have to manually soften them with eraser tool+modifier key (windows it's CTRL; I don't know wich one it is on MAC...)

Then all your cilinders will look alike.

      Hope this helps,

This is the first thing to do!

Close the Outliner and every complex plugin will be faster. Sometimes they're only useable with this turned on. Sometimes even simple plugins only work with this turned of. Take a look at the mirror plugin page.
