      That's relatively easy!
      Lots of repetitive shapes.
Make them as components, 1 per segment of a circle [say 24 ?], and arrange then around an axis as a radial array at 360 [Rotate+Ctrl /24 or the numbers needed].
I wouldn't try to punch every perforation unless you want true shadows to be cast.
Otherwise make a transparent png of each piece and apply it as a projected material onto the mesh faces in the components ☀

Well, thanks for the advise, TIG.

Yes, originally I wanted to punch every perforation, and that's what make the challenge. I tried your method using png and projected the material. but everything is distorted after the curved.

The attached is what I've done so far. Far from what I wanted to achieve.

Thank you Rich. can I use a top view picture of the object as texture on this shape? and how about the side? it will look disconnected.

Oh, no! It takes forever to upload a very small file. Don't know why. That's one thing weird about this site. Maybe the system is too special.

      Working on it still...

    • Anyone?a better way to make this organic ottoman?

      Hey guys,

Long time no see! I'm back! Because I miss you all so much!(Liar!) Actually, I need to make a not so organic ottoman, and I need to use the pictures I took as texture on specific places. A little bit stuck on making the organic shape while still have to keep the images on the specific places.

Anyone have a better way to make it more life-like?

      Thank you!

    • My biggest challenge so far

      Hi everyone,

Thank you for your support, especially for those who have given me helping hands.
Without you, I wouldn't be able to successfully finish my projects. Deeply appreciated.

Even though I'm able to complete all the projects I've been given, a bigger challenge is at my gate right now. As always, my boss wants me to get it done very soon. I have before Friday. THAT'S JUST GREAT.

This creep has curves everywhere  almost on any angle, I couldn't even get the core properly shaped. See what I have here(check the link):

I guess I need to find some shortcuts here. I'm still working on the core, since I couldn't get it properly shaped. I will import dwg. for those details. Not going to drive myself crazy for those detail this time, and I don't think I have enough time for that either.

Oh, Adam, you are so sweet. Thank you very much for making a tutorial for this.

someone told me about the up and down arrow before, but the thing is on my Mac the up and down arrow does not change anything.

That's why its not working for you then...maybe someone can help you get the arrow problem sorted on your Mac, but until then here is a workaround...flip the arc along the red axis before running shape bender - then you don't need to use the arrow keys

yes, I was trying to do this, and this is the only way I can make it work. And Thank you.

I'm not sure why you started another thread, but that's beside the point.

Are you doing this to understand shape bender or do you just want this shape?

The shape you want can be made simply by creating a curved object of the correct thickness then extruding your profile through it, intesecting and removing the excess.

This would give you straight sides but they can always be corrected.

You have not explained in your threads what it is that you want to achieve.

It's difficult for people to give you the correct advice if they don't know what you really want to produce.

I'm sorry. I don't know how to explain this clearly. I guess I just have to let the images tell the story.
On the left of the 1st image you can see that some lines are missing after curving. That's why I need to create the thickness before curving the object.

the 2nd image shows you that joint push pull can not generate the shape.

Okay, then just use the profile (no thickness) and bend as you need it then use JPP (joint push pusll) after to create the thickness.

I know, I've tried that already. but it would create a hollow back. you know what I'm talking about. I need to remain the back. I know I can use the curved profile for the back, but that's not what I want. Also, I can't do that to the other object, because the joint push pull will distort the structure. That's why I need to create the thickness before I bend it.

    • Shape bender question: bend along the inside of the curve

      Hi everybody,

I tried to bend my object along the inside of the curve line, but couldn't make it work. I tried place the object in different position, I can make it bend along the outside of the curve, aligned center along the curve, but just couldn't get it bend along the the inside of the curve(unless my object doesn't have a thickness. )

Please see attachment. Appreciate your response.

SDS (smustard) is the first version, Artisan is the new improved version...no contest Artisan.

Wow, You r faster than lightening.
I thought they're from different companies. Now when I take a good look, I found they're both from Dale Martens. What a joke.

You might just delete my post. Doesn't seem like would be useful for anyone.

      Hey buddies,

As shown in the title: Smustard's SubdivideAndSmooth vs. Artisan
Who would like to share some user experience?

( I need to decide which one to buy. I have never tried Smustard's SubdivideAndSmooth, don't know if all the Smustard's SubdivideAndSmooth functions are covered in Artisan. )

For heavy organic modelling, is it better to get the Artisan?

Yes Jet that happened to me, so I only deleted the front, back and bottom, left the curved one in place.

thanks, vicspa. I did that too. but the curved shape became too big. Is there a way to control it?

I need to delete the line, but not just hide them. Cause I need to work on a seamless surface.

Select the middle joining lines and delete them.

On the flat one of course you can do that. the one I was showing is on a curve. when deleting the joining lines it will only destroy the structure.
