Would it be an improvement to save the hatching element as a component rather than a group so that the file size is smaller?

Awesome! Thank you.
Did you keep track of the number of hours you spent developing this? I'm guessing it was massive.

RE: Big Thank You at all Developer and blessed X-Mas
Yeah. It is because of your great work that SketchUp is what it is today .... you have given it a breath of life.
A great New Year as well.

Thank you for the replies. The school intends to buy 3 printers so, dozer, your advise will be definitely be taken.

3D PRINTERS, Best values/choices? Advice requested.
One of the local high schools is planning to buy a 3D printer next year. I was asked for input.
If there any forum members with experience regarding the hardware side of 3D printing I would appreciate your comments. The sooner the better.
I just did a quick search on the Internet.
This seemed to be the most comprehensive site with comparative data
http://3d-printers.toptenreviews.com/series-1-review.htmlNote sure what the school's budget is, however.
Overall it appears the the Ultra Maker 2 and the Type A Series 1brands are the best value. Type A Series 1 is $250 more but:
- build width is 2.4" more,
- build height is 4" more,
- build depth is 3" more.
- Manufacturer's filament cartridge cost is $35 which is $7.20 less than the Ultra Maker 2
(so long term expenses could be significant depending upon usage).
Negative issue for the Type A Series 1 is it only has ONE printhead v.s. TWO for the Ultra Maker 2
I am not sure which parameters for a 3D printer are the most relevant.
Thanks in advance,
John -
RE: [Proto] Generating Terrain from a Cloud of Points
Fredo,
A fellow who works for my previous employer, Brown and Caldwell Environmental Engineers, suggested downloading 2006 LIDAR data for the state of Ohio here:
http://gis3.oit.ohio.gov/geodatadownload/osip.aspx
Hopefully, they aren't too big of datasets.

RE: [Plugin] Add Layer [1.1.0]
Would it be possible to have a button (or mouse-over) in the UI which would display a temporary dialog with a summary of which layers have the "Add Layer's HIDDEN attribute" assigned to them and their type of HIDDEN attribute (eg. for a specific scene only, new scenes, etc.)?

IMac - a few basic questions
I am considering getting an iMac for the family for Xmas and would like some advise (I'm the only one who uses a PC).
1- Model Choice
I see there are 3 configurations:
21.5-inch,1.4GHz $1,099
21.5-inch,2.7GHz $1,299
21.5-inch,2.9GHz $1,499It seems to me that the 2.7GHz (Intel Iris Pro graphics) was a good value compared to the 1.4Gz configuration.
I did noticed that the 2.9GHz had an Nvidia GeForce GT 750M w/1GB video memory.
If I wanted to use SketchUp, would the 2.7GHz option do the job or is the 2.9GHz/nVidia necessary?
Other family members would primarily be doing word processing, photo editing, downloading music, viewing You-Tube, and of course social networking.
2- Support Options
What about iCare vs AppleCare?
I have no experience with a Mac and other family members are non-techies. -
RE: [Plugin][$] Curviloft 2.0a - 31 Mar 24 (Loft & Skinning)
Could this plugin be adapted into a new/similar plugin but for sheet metal fabrication? With some of the functions described here in this SolidsWorks video; in particular bend lines and flattening functions?

Cut geom. in an Instance and paste outside of all instances
I made this post back in 2008.
http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=180%26amp;t=8591%26amp;p=51308#p51308A few weeks ago I asked Sdmitch for some help and he came up this script
Cut a selection within a Component Instance and Paste in Place from All InstancesThis script is located in the Edit Menu and will be only work on a selection within a "top level component" not from a selection within a component that is contained in another component.
Open a component instance, make a selection (it can be a group, component, loose geometry or any combination of them), run the script and pick a layer to paste the selection to (the current layer is initially shown in the list).
The script name and description in the Edit menu is a bit long so feel free to rename them.
Thanks Sdmitch.
Here is an test file to experiment with (SU2015 format)

RE: Paste In Place a Copy to Current (Active) Layer
The attached will copy and paste in place a group or component to another layer.
It will appear in the Edit menu as "Paste In Place Copy of Group/Component to Layer".
Paste In Place A Copy.rbSelect a group or component and run the script. You will then be asked to choose a layer to paste the copy. The current layer will be initially displayed in the list.
Thanks Sdmitch.

RE: Cut and Paste-in-place from within Component Instances
Try this script which Sdmitch created.
Edit a "top level" instance, make a selection (can be a group, a component, loose geometry or any combination of them), then run the script from the Edit menu > item "Cut selection within Comp Instance and Paste in Place from all Instances" (it is a long description, change if it if you want one less lengthy). You will be given an option to place the objects to be pasted onto a specific layer.
I tested it in SU2014 and SU2014.

RE: [REQUEST] Directly Replace One Compenent with Another
Daiku >> Thanks. I never noticed that option before.
Matt666 >> Thanks for pointing the script out, I didn't realize what it actually did. (I changed the menu name in my copy).
ThomThom, if Rick wouldn't mind perhaps an "Eyedropper" version could be developed that works similar to the Materials Editor dialog:
a) You make your selection, right-click, choose "pick a replacement component", an eyedropper appears, click on another component (if you hover over another component without clicking then that component's name appears next to the eyedropper or perhaps a thumbnail) and the selection is replaced.
b) If you don't have a selection, right-click on any entity, choose "pick a replacement component", eyedropper cursor appears, click on a component (if you hover over another component without clicking then that component's name appears next to the eyedropper or perhaps a thumbnail), cursor changes to a paint-bucket, "pour" the replacement component onto another component(s), press any key to end.
Perhaps replacing a component with a group or vise versa would be useful too? Toggle through the 3 modes (comp to comp, comp to group, or group to comp) via the Tab key.

Paste In Place a Copy to Current (Active) Layer
I was wondering if someone would be willing to create a script that would Paste In Place a copy of a selection to the Current (Active) Layer.
Pasting in place geometry over itself in order to put the copy onto a another layer can be fiddly.

RE: [Plugin] SketchUcation Tools 2.6.1
I am curious as to how the UPDATE feature works.
1- Does it ping the user's PC to see what they have installed?
or
2- Build a data base on a SketchUcation server for each user based upon what they have downloaded via SketchUcation?======================
At any rate, it seems to work seamlessly. My thanks to the SketchUcation team for its foresight in developing the Tools Plugin.
