Scale it up then scale it back down. It will fill in the small polys

I had to increase the size X100, but it worked! Thanks a ton mate.

Very odd though that you have to work with such large sizes. You'd think a polygon is a polygon.

    • Having trouble making upholstery piping for cushion

Lately I have been trying to up my modeling game and find myself creating a lot of chairs. And I have run into a problem trying to get a small 1/8" pipe to run along a 1/4" 90 degree curve.

      I am have tried:

      1. using the follow me tool and a 1/4" circle. Result = no tube on edges. Tube runs fine along straight lines, but when it gets to the curve it just stops.

      2. Lines2Tube extension. This extension got me closer, but it bugged out at the curve. The curve had a whole bunch of open areas. Not a smooth turn. I played with the "precision" number but that didn't work. Surprisingly reducing the precision made it worse. Increasing it didn't do much in terms of fixing the openings.

      3. I also tried the extensions "pipe along path" and 3skeng 2017 pipe" none of which worked for what I need.

Obviously this is possible, I have seen it done before. Anyone have any tips they can throw my way as to a fix to this problem.

Here is a screenshot of what is happening when I run the "Lines2Tube" extension.

I will also include the .skp file in case anyone wants to take a look at it.

    • How to single out parts of a rendering?

      Hey guys,

So I was watching this video the other day (starts at 1:38 - I used a link that starts the video automatically at that point, but it doesn't seem to work with this forum.)

And in it he drags and drops a ".TGA File" onto Photoshop and it magically converts all the different components of his scene (lamp, wall, curtain, bed, ect.) into flat unique colors. That way he is able to select "bed" simply by selection "color range" and clicking where the bed is.

This is great for changing lighting in specific areas. I am also curious as to the possibilities these .TGA files create.

Can someone enlighten me on how something like this is created? The creator of the video uses 3D max to create the model, and Vray to render it, but I don't think it matters since he is dropping these files into Photoshop.

Here is a screen capture of what I am talking about:

    • Cannot find "Tools On Surface" - Where do I download?

I need Fredo6's "Tools On Surface." I found the thread here (https://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323%26amp;t=11212#p76625 but when I click on the SCF Plug In Store it says I am "not authorized to read this forum."

Then when I search the extension warehouse it's nowhere to be found.

Can someone help a SU brother out?

      Hi
what you see there is not a thumbnail, it is a added rendered.....

Thanks! This worked out great for me. Something I noticed that I should add is that the dimensions of the image you insert into your file is important if you want the tile to be filled entirely. The dimensions are 1304 x 732.

I think I am going to make a Youtube walk through once I figure out how to perfect the image.

      Thanks @HornOxx for the help!

    • How to add rendered thumbnail to Sketchup Warehouse Gallery?

When viewing the Sketchup Warehouse I sometimes see thumbnails that have a rendered image.

How can I take a .jpg of a rendered product and use that as the thumbnail in my warehouse gallery?

      Splitting the dresser in half...

Dave, I appreciate the detailed walk through and agree that learning things the native way first will make life easier ten fold in the future. For someone who is doing a quick one time project I fully support short cuts, but if you want to become proficient at a discipline you really need to learn the basics.

Also, I hope yo don't mind me editing your reply, but I feel its such a space waster to repeat a quote that is located up the page.

    • Increase width of multi group component?

      Hey guys,

I am at a loss here.

I need to widen this dresser 2.75" inches. Only the drawers need to increase in width, everything else (the sides of the cabinet, the drawer slide hardware, the handles, ect) need remain unchanged. I also need to keep the groups in tact so I can hide/unhide panels and drawers in the future.

I am thinking I could cut the model in half, cut a small section from the center, push/pull it to the added length I need, and then marry the two sides to the enlarged center section. (see picture below)

How to slice a model in half?

Hi, it seems my google is broken, but I can’t find a working solution for such basic modeling action as splitting 3d objects (aka models) in half. Just it, I have a model, which grouped from another models, and I need to…

      favicon

      SketchUp Community (forums.sketchup.com)

where you insert a plane to slice the object in question in half, select the half, select 'intersect faces @ selection' and then make the one half a component.

Whenever I do that my Sketchup (Pro 2016 OS X) freezes.

I then found a plug in:

      http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=124862#p124862

But that doesn't seem to install on my version (it's from 2009 so who knows...)
