Olle,
See attached.
(jpg only / dwg attachment failed)
...
Just export as dwg (3d) - done.
Nothing wrong with your SU design as far as I can see.
...
Your Autocad viewer is possibly throwing your coordinates out or giving you screen coordinates as opposed to geometry coordinates ???
...
(How come we can't attach dwg's anymore ??? Never used to be the case)
...
Hope this helps

RE: Transparency - png?
See attached,
In Photoshop (or equivalent):- Open Layers Pallette, R Click on Background Layer - Layer from Background
- Magic Wand Tool - Select Black Line - Then Select Inverse - All White Squares are now Selected
- Hit Delete Key - Chequerboard Pattern appears (white squares are deleted) = Transparent areas.
- Save as *.png

Hope this helps

RE: Hidden to Layer - Script
TIG,
Thanks for adjusting your script so quickly - after a quick test it seems to work fine.
...
Idea for a possible future enhancement (V1.3) ???
...
May need a dialog box with a check box / dropdown choice for users - incorporate unhide_all.rbCurrently V1.2 of the script moves all hidden objects to Layer HIDN - and they remain as Hidden objects.
If you run the script unhide_all.rb (Thank you Rick Wilson) - all previously Hidden objects are now visible. To hide them again, users can simply turn the Layer HIDN off - very useful.
Gives users more control over their hidden / revealed geometry.
...
You could give users the option to keep hidden objects as hidden objects or to unhide them when they run the hidden2layer script.
...
Thanks once again for V 1.2 - hugely appreciated.

RE: Hidden to Layer - Script
TIG,
If you have time / if it's possible, could you please adjust your script as follows:-
Add your mining capability so that the script will drill down into Groups / Components to search for any Hidden Geometry.
-
Make the script work on Selected Geometry ie by default (if nothing is selected) then the script will work on the whole model, HOWEVER, if the user has some geometry selected - then it will only work on the selected items.
Your help as always much appreciated.

[Tutorial]How to Cut around Objects Quickly in Photoshop etc
See attached Tutorial - as a PDF file.

This method is also useful for objects that have fuzzy edges eg Hair, Fur, Plants etc

RE: Multiple copy
Syburn,
See this quick tutorial I created a while ago.
http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2073
The deals with multiple copying (array) along an edge but it should give you the basic idea of multiple copying.
...
You can always use quick keys for copy and paste:<Ctrl> X - Cut
<Ctrl> C - Copy
<Ctrl> V - Paste(Standard windows commands)
...
Sketchup also alllows you to set up your own preferred quick keys for SU commands.
Window - Preferences - Shortcuts
Then assign keys of your choice for various (common) commands eg for Move / Copy

Hope this helps.

RE: Flat colour on all faces - no shading - is it possible ???
Charlie / Anssi,
Thanks very much to both of you for your help with this.
I tried both methods and they work really well - just what I needed.

Flat colour on all faces - no shading - is it possible ???
See attached file.
...
In SU is it possible to have a totally flat colour on ALL faces with NO shading at all ???
...
Normally faces that are at an angle away from the observer have a slight shading to them.
The more acute the face - the darker the shading.
Faces that are square on to the observer have a totally flat colour / material.
This occurs whether shadows are on or off (I require shadows off).
...
Normally this is very useful as it gives us a visual clue to depth in a model.
...
I'm working on a model where it would be very useful to have faces that have no shading at all. Is it possible ???
...
I'm exporting views as jpg's and doing some colour replacing in photoshop with each image - but it's quite a tedious operation.
It would be much better to have an export with no shading.

RE: Importing DXF
The problems you are experiencing are most likely due to
- Linework is not coplanar (some linework either sloping in the z axis or at totally different elevations) and / or
- You have dirty CAD linework - Overshoots, Undershoots, Lines not Intersecting correctly, Slivers, Double linework and other such Junk / Spaghetti.
Try flattening all linework in your CAD program - if you have access to Autocad - the Command is FLATTEN if you have Express Tools loaded - then you'll KNOW its in 2D.
...
Clean up the CAD Linework as much as possible if it's at all feasible.Alternatives - Visit Smustard:
http://www.smustard.com/scripts/Download 2 scripts - Flatten and Make Faces.
Once Data Flattened - Run Make Faces Script.

Hope this helps.

RE: Lumber (timber) sizes in the UK?
Joe,
You could start by looking here:

They have some drawings (standard details) you can download, but you'll have to register / join.
Info also available as PDFs showing timber sizes etc

RE: X-Ray mode > Amount of Opacity > Can it be adjusted?
John,
See attached *.skp file
(Open Materials pallette once model is opened).
...
Another approach might be to define some new materials with various opacities.
The nice thing about this, is that different geometry can have different colours and different opacities and they can all be easily adjusted with the opacity slider for each material until you get the effect you want.
You can also leave some items solid if required (unlike using X-Ray)

RE: Why don't section planes like my components?
Ben,
On my machine (Windows) the files do not appear to be corrupt and work fine.
I can't reproduce the fault or bug you are experiencing.
...
There's no logical reason for this to work but see the attached files...
Try them on your Mac.
...
All I've done is purge your files and saved them with Windows based SU.
See if they behave any better.
...
Good Luck

RE: Slice-delete
I added this:
http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3283
to the SU Wish List a while ago.
...
The ability to perform Boolean Operations (eg Union, Intersect, Subtract [ie slice])would give SU this ability.
It would make SU extremely powerful.
...
Keep your fingers crossedHoward L'

RE: Why don't section planes like my components?
Ben,
See attached *.jpg's
...
Try the obvious things first:
Show Section Plane
Show Section Cut
(icons)
Then...
Right Click on any Section Plane of interest (The grey area with Section Arrows on each corner) - Select "Active Cut"
Model should Section Correctly.
...
I've had no problems with either your fireplace or office models.
Both seem to work fine (see attached screen dumps).
...
I'm using Windows - I think you're on a Mac ???
I'm not sure if this is significant.
...
Hope this helps
