So glad to see you posting again. And such an amazing model, it's as close to a photo as you can come with SU.

I would kill for just 10 percent of your talent. It's probably not 'politically correct' πŸ˜’ to say something like that nowdays, but I don't give a hoot in hell about all the PC crap πŸ˜†

Please keep posting, your work lifts this forum to higher levels

Wow, if this is your idea of a 'simple' model with 'bad textures' I would really love to see what you consider a detailed model with good textures πŸ˜„

Seriously, don't beat yourself up for shortcomings that don't exist!

I don't think so. I think once the splash screen has opened, you're committed.

That's not really what I wanted to hear 😞

    • Stopping SU2015 from opening

Is there any way to stop SU 2015 from opening once the "Welcome to SketchUp" screen has appeared?

      2016-07-10_181825.png

I've even tried to close it using the Task Manager, but when I click on End Task it just opens anyway.

      2016-07-10_181448.png

Not a huge problem, but I sometimes find myself in this situation and it's just annoying to have no choice but to continue to open the model, just to close it. And of course it's usually a very large model, which wastes even more of my time while it opens.

    • Model will open only as "Read-Only"

Just tried to open one of my models and I keep getting this error message

      2016-07-04_225549.png

Other models will open just fine, problem seems to be with this one only.

      Restarted computer, no joy.

      Any suggestions?

The Cat is looking very nice πŸ‘ . It would be nice to see some shadows to give it more dimension.

Kudos to you for being determined to point out anything that you did not actually model. It has always bothered me when someone posts a model that they have modified a bit or rendered or whatever, and they never bother to mention they just pulled the model from the warehouse, without giving credit to the person who created it.

I very rarely use anything that I did not create myself, but when I do I make sure that I clearly point it out. It's just the right thing to do.

Looking forward to seeing this model progress, and to seeing more of your work.

Like tuna1957 said, check out all the tutorials, but don't jump right into the more advanced ones, they might confuse and discourage you until you've studied some of the ones aimed more at the beginner level. Work your way up. And as far as the YouTube videos, while there are a lot of them that do take the time to explain how to do certain things, there are also a good number of them that just speed through the process, with no attempt whatsoever to explain what they are doing or how they are doing it. I call these the "Wow, ain't I impressive" videos, and while they can be entertaining they offer no value as a learning tool for the beginner.
The way I learned was to pick a model from the warehouse and try to modify it. Just keep at it and you will learn a lot. I did this with several warehouse models before I attempted to create anything of my own, and I learned so much in the process.
And most importantly, do take advantage of the forums here. Take the time to just browse through them and you'll be surprised how much you'll learn. And ask questions! There are so many incredibly helpful people here who are willing to take the time to explain anything that you have questions about. Just remember that even the most skilled modeller here started out at the level you're at right now. I know I wouldn't have gotten very far without their willingness to answer even my "dumbest" questions without talking down to me or making me feel like I'll never learn how to do the amazing stuff that they do.
Trust me, if I can learn (at least some of) this stuff, anyone can.
Looking forward to seeing more of your work here as you progress.

Oh, and figure out which plugins might be of help to you and learn how to use them. If you can't figure out how to do something, see if you can find a plugin that will help you do it. Even if you can't find one, don't assume there isn't one. Post a question here on the forums about it, and you might be surprised. But don't overdo it with the plugins at first, you'll just overwhelm yourself. There are some that are best left for later as your skills grow. The sheer number of plugins available can be daunting, I know it scared the crap out of me. Maybe somebody here can make a list of the plugins recommended for those just starting out with Sketchup, and which ones to add as they reach certain skill levels. They make everything so much easier now than it used to be.

Wow, time to get down off my Sunday morning soapbox, grab my laptop and head out for some coffee.

Some submarines DO have wheels, mainly Russian and Swedish midget spy types for lying up in shallow waters.

I guess you mean you sometimes get a file called 0.skb. This is entirely different from the CFileException0 error message.

Just for the record, I did mean 0.skp, as in...
