Hello everyone, I would like to seek help and some guidance on creating a material as seen in the attached reference image in vray. I tried a black color diffuse and few scratch and patches Black white textures in the reflection slot but I am not able to achieve the desired effect. Any help is appreciated.

      Thanks

      Hi,
I don't think it is possible yet.
They introduced fog for aerial perspectives but it's not the same and limited to sunlight.
There is also this material called Subsurface Scattering that has some volumetric options etc. but i doubt it can be used for your purpose.

Thereby, you can try to add it in post production πŸ™‚

Thanks for information. You are right... Post production is the way to go for now.

    • Light from Projector & Screen

      Hi,
I am working on an interior render of a small theater where I would like to render the light from the projector and screen. For the screen I know I can use a bitmap and make it an emissive material. But I have not clue who I can render the light from the projector 😞 The view is from the back looking at the screen. It will be really helpful if someone can share how they achieved the same with SU + Vray.
      Thanking everyone in advance.

      Cheers !!

    • RE: Vray Office Interior

Thanks Majid for sharing your experience.
I always leave the default setting (except intensity) for Omni lights whenever I use them and at default the decay is set to inverse square. I will try "inverse" option in my next rendering. I have tried putting lights in the modeled light fixtures but due to their number (roughly 120+) VRay keeps crashing.
Can you please clarify what you mean by modelling "place holder" lights?
Thanks once again for all your help, appreciated.

      @majid said:

As a matter of fact, our eyes (mind) works differently from photos or computers. i.e light attenuation is based on inverse square ratio, but when one adjusts them in this way will find it more like what a camera captures and not what our eyes captures. So I've experienced that it will give a better result if adjust the attenuation as "inverse". the result will be more smooth and less contrast ,a better solution for interiors. and do not neglect some fake lighting using rectangular lights, here and there ... πŸ˜‰.
a minor comment on this render: place lights inside their place: tube lights that you have modeled. and also maybe it would be nice to model some more "place holder" for other lights...

Thanks cuttingedge. You are right, I am finding it difficult to balance various aspect of the models, details, maps and lighting. I will try downloading few vray ready models and study them as you suggested. Can you please recommend a good source for it? I have tried using ies lights in past models but my render would always crash and i had to opt for omni lights. Once again thank you for your inputs. Appreciated.

    • Vray Office Interior

      Hi,

Can some one please recommend a good rendering tutorial for an office setup?
I have seen some where there is some sort of natural light.
I work in a firm which does offices which have many interior spaces with no natural light. What is a good starting point for such conditions? How would you approach this?
I can share few sketchup files if someone would like to take a stab at it?

For me I play with the physical camera setting and have few omni lights in it. But the results are not good 😞 . I am not looking for a super photo realistic result but most of the times my render has hot spots due omni light. I did try using IES lights but due to number of lights in the scene it just kept crashing.

Thanking you in advance for your inputs and your time.

      Hi valerostudio,

I got better results with AO turned off but still there are strange spots on the ceiling and lost the depth in the rendering with AO turned off. Can you please suggest what would be a best starting point for AO setting in a rendering which have fine moldings ? or a way around it ?

      Thank you.

Environment setting are left as default. I have a 12" slab above the ceiling. Do you think i should modelling a box (of floor height) on top will help solve this problem ? I tried tweaking the IR Map setting but didnt help. Thanks for looking into it. I will try adding a box on top and give it a shot tomorrow.

    • RE: Vray Reflections

Seems like it was a bad HDRI image for this render, I got better reflections when i changed the HDRI image. Changing dome light multiplier helped. Thank you valerostudio and andybot for looking into it and for your suggestions. I will post a test render soon.

I am new to Vray and Sketchup. I dont know how to make my glass render nicely. I am on SU 8 and latest VFS (Beta version) In my scene I have a dome light with HDRI for reflections but glass wont reflect 😞 vray render settings are default and dome light setting are default.
Please see attach for the test output and glass setting(50% transparent with fresnel reflections)
Can someone please help with some tips and techniques ? I am sure i am doing something very basic wrong..... : (

    • RE: Dark Renders

The small window is actually rendering of the objects with default vray setting, in which the textures and solid colors have different output values. (I want them to look the same, input values = output values)
      Thanks.

    • Dark Renders

      Hi,

I am new to Vray on Sketchup, Dont know how to fix this issue but I am sure I will get some help from the Masters on this forum.
When I use a texture or even a solid color the render is much darker then the input data (Please see attached screenshot). Is there a way to fix this ??
Attached screenshot is with default vray setting. I tried different color mapping but still could not get a good result no matter if its a exterior or interior scene.(More darker in interior scenes)
Please please help me with this. Will be a great help and will help me learn.

Thanking in advance and Wishing everyone happy Holidays.
