sigh..... Windows deciding it thinks it knows what you want to do, not what you TELL it to do..... I can't help, it should do what it's told... maybe smack it and send it to it's room to think about what it is doing... then when it's ready to appologise come out.

RE: Going back and forth from ver. 6 to 7
Same way you change the default program for anyfile type:
- Open Windows Explorer (a shortcut is the Windows key + E)
- Go to "Tools -> Folder options"
- Click the "File Types" tab
- Scroll down to the "SKP" type
- Click the "Change" button
- Click the "Browse" button
- Browse to the "Sketchup.exe" in "C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 7"
- Click the "Open" button
- Click the "Ok" button
- Click the "Close" button

It came up in the collection that I got to by clicking on the link in your signature. I can't help that it was included there.
What did you do with the birdfeeder model I sent you? I already corrected that one for you. You could at least replace the one on the warehouse with that one. No need to give me credit. I'm not interested in that.
I'm not trying to be critical but it appears from your collection that you were applying a double standard to models allowed into your collection.
Oh ok, the link in my signature is to all of my models, not all of my models are up to the standard to be included in the SketchuCation Woodworking collection. No double standards, models that meet the criteria are added, those that don't (like the gazebo) are not added.
I got the Bird feeder but for some reason did not upload the one you corrected for me, I have now. That's why your comment about it confused me, I looked at the model that I have on my PC and it was fine. Same with the picnic table, I had already fixed it but not uploaded the fixed one.
I tried fixing the garden bridge but I could not get the material used on the railings to look right so I removed all materials from the entire model.

Actually it's not in the collection..
Dave, what gave you the idea that is was in the collection?

Which part of the Gazebo? Bruce?
Oh god, I see it now, the floorboards and the roof planks. I think it will be easier to remove it from the collection than try and seperate each into a component.

Hazza, how come you've never fixed the bird feeder model? I'm just curious.
I think since your goal is to have models that are drawn such that they could be used to build from, you ought to include proper grain direction in the models if they are painted with wood grain materials. And component axes should be correct so that the cutlist plugin will yield proper information for purchasing the materials and building the models.
The gazebo isn't drawn to meet your criteria of each piece of wood being a separate component. I wonder why that is.
Oh dam someone spotted it, those models were some of my first, now I know more about modeling I should really fix them up. You will notice that I stopped putting material on the models because getting the grain direction the right way around is time consuming and cosmetic... then again it does make the models look prettier.
Which part of the Gazebo? Bruce?

hazza knows nothing, on his own admission, about woodworking, and very little about design or modeling judgeing by his warehouse offerings and he also makes disconcerting comments about not being able to take measurements off my model without having to spend time understanding how the project is put together.
My "he" was not a deliberate or intentional attempt to p*ss you off, the above paragraph is.
- I did not say I know "nothing", I said I know little, big difference
- The models I do are NOT my design, follow the URL's and tell THEM that their design is crap
- The collection has a standard, if your model does not meet the standard then it does not get added, simple
- Despite your deliberate personal insults if your model meets the standard it will be added

If I wanted to seperate it into 4 pieces so that I could take measurements I could not do so without many many hours of SU work.
Well twenty one minutes, anyway.
Dave Dave Dave...... you may have been able to seperate them in 20 minutes but we are talking about my SU skills and experience aren't we?
I did exagerate on the hours and hours but I think he now understands what is required. The model may be obvious to a woodworker, but I am not. I am a modeler that does woodwork models, that difference in emphasis means it has to be obvious.

Heres my contribution.
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=72c2d871fba975c7d797e188153f356&prevstart=0With reference to woodgrain orientation, it always used to be a real pain, but now in su7 you can edit the image in pshop. Simply save the texture as a copy in su. Export it to your image editor, rotate the image 90 degrees and voila!
Baz
Dave is right, each piece of wood does need to be a seperate component OR group to met the criteria. The outside box is one group. If I wanted to seperate it into 4 pieces so that I could take measurements I could not do so without many many hours of SU work.
As for the material orientation, you could change that in SU6 without "editing" the texture in an external application:
- Edit the component (or group)
- Right click the face you want to change
- Select "Texture -> Position"
- Right click face again
- Select "Rotate -> 90 (or 180 or 270)"

Hazza, what's in the air to specifically warn us about this? Serious question!
Short answer:
PropelantLong answer:
It's not "air", it's a low boiling liquid called "difluroethane". It evaporates VERY quickly and gets VERY cold, this can cause thermal shock to digital sensors and they will stop working. The liquid is also a good solvent, so it can draw up contaminents and make your problems worse not better. -
RE: Rough sketch
That's a different situation then... the photographer in me just gasped when I saw that you used canned air... still I would not like to see someone with a decent camera see that post and try it for themselves.
If the camera is old and non-functioning you have nothing to lose, so blast away.

RE: Saw Stop
Now can you compare all those prices against micro surgery to reattach your thumb?
From what I have heard about the prices of medical costs in the USA I think it's a no brainer.

cleaned it out with air spray
Now take it to be repaired so they can get all the gunk out of it that is sprayed from the can of "air".
Hint to others, NEVER and I mean NEVER EVER blow out your camera with canned air, unless you want it to stop working that is.

Is there a better way to create the rounded box?
Yes, make a normal hard edge box then use the "Round edges" plugin that you can download from this thread.

RE: Links for Texture Sources
This is a wood species texture collection.

RE: Animation - Rotate Object - How?
One method I have used in the past:
- Create 36 scenes
- Create 36 layers
- Create 36 copies of the object placing 1 copy of the object on each layer
- Rotate each copy of the object by 10 degrees
- Use the scenes to turn the layers on and off one by one
If there are objects that are static and do not move then put them on layer 0 and leave layer 0 turn on for all scenes. It's quite labour intensive and there is probably a better method but that's what I did.
PS. Make sure your object is a component NOT a group. That way if you change the component all copies are changed as well.

RE: For the Birds...
Not long after I started doing woodwork sketchup models I found a collection of wood textures. They are much better than the default wood materials.
You can download them here.

RE: Pigeon holes
Is the 8 mm gap between the middle upright and the shelves deliberate?
At first I thought it was overlapping solids but it's a gap.

Yeah I know you were but it was just in case others came across the thread and thought I WAS being too picky. I would have thought of a witty reply but my caffine system has too much blood in it.

RE: Invitation to the SketchUcation collection
@gaieus said:
You've become rather picky, Hazza!
Yes and it's what is not accepted into the collection that sets the quailty. If I let that model slip in why not the next one. Then the next one that is slightly less quailty than that... etc etc.
@dave r said:
Hazza, are you familiar with "loose tenon" joinery?
No, that's why I asked. I am a SU modeler that does woodwork models, not a woodworker that does SU models.
I have no doubt in my mind that there is heaps of woodworking stuff I have never seen before. That's why I like detailed woodworking plans. I am able to follow the plans with no prior woodworking knowledge.
Now I am familiar with loose tenons... you learn something everyday.

I will remeber to include that in the future and will go back and fix the models.
When you do let me know and I will add them to the collection.
