Ehm... By sliding them together do I obtain that beautiful lady as well?
Actual results may vary according to use:
An idea for the holidays.
Cut 30 pieces like this:
Then have fun sliding them toghether to obtain this:
Precise instructions and ready-to-print templates: here and here
Of course, you can also obtain similar results using sketchup
I also built one with colored thick paper and it is actually fun.
I think it is a known issue: SketchUp won't start on Vista?
Even with a "$2000 CAD program" you need to be highly skilled to draw a realistic car.
Mike is right. Start with something more simple, this will help you improve your skills.
If instead you keep on trying with the car, try to answer our posts.
guzman.
TaffGoch also has many cool models related to George Hart's sculptures like this one:
Here's the last one I made (so far):
It is inspired (in the sense that is has the same structure, rhombic triacontahedron) to:
George Hart's 12-Part Puzzle
.
You're right Gaieus,
I know TaffGoch tutorials, they're actually a must.
I thought however that a step-by-step description could be useful in this thread concerning geometric constructions and sculptures.
(But you're right, they're problably off topic in the gallery, I wont post any more)
thanks.
How to draw an icosahedron without ever typing in any measures.
I know only a few people may be interested in this issue, but I think it's fun when you try.
It is actually way easier than it might look.
So here's a brief tutorial.
1 - Draw a "golden ratio" rectangle, SU will show a tooltip when the rectangle you're are drawing is a golden-ratio rectangle. (I will not discuss here the definition of golden-ratio rectangles and why they are so important, just use them).
Select the whole rectangle and make it a group.
2 - Select the group and make a rotated copy of it by rotating it around its center by 90°:
3 - Select the second rectangle and make a rotated copy of it by rotating it around the line shown in the image by 90°:
4 - Select again the second rectangle and rotate it (no copy) around the line shown in the image by 90°:
You should end up with three equal rectangles orthogonal to each other.
5 - You're done. Just connect the vertices of the rectangles to form triangles:
(you may also wanto to erase the rectangles and other internal faces)
Hi Kevin,
**First.**You should align the blueprints. It seems to me that they're not aligned.
For instance the blueprint of the rear of the car should be lowered.
Second. In order for someone to help you (if there's someone still available) it might be useful attaching the skp file.
Third. When drawing a line in space you should always use at least two blueprints to detect the endpoints of the line. It seems to me that you only use one sometimes, like in the side windows of the car. This is very important. That's the role of having three blueprints.
Fourth. It would probably be easier starting by using the method that Pete clearly illustrated in the other thread (video). That method, also helps to undertand how blueprints work.
You make contours of the three blueprints, you pull them, you intersect everything and you erase the extra parts.
Finally. Think twice before posting one-line comments and one-word comments, they usually aren't that useful.
Hope this helps.

C'mon Kevin,
tell us something more about you,
for strange reasons we all want to know more.
Your life, friends, house, ....
Hey Kevin,
How did you buy your mercedes ?
or did you steal it in a warehouse ?
What was your last exam about ?
I mean, in your school of law.
Hi Kevin,
I made the hidden ship,
what d'ya think ?

I can't say that Ive liked how previous attempts to help you have turned out. [...] I'll let you do the searching on your own.
Here's Kevin's solution to the problem, see model in 3DWH:
"how do i import from GTAINSIDE, it wont work"

Oi! That's cheating! You have to come up with something yourself!

why don't we help young Kevin find a new title for this fine thread?
