RE: 2 x 4 Crate Tutorial
I used Camtasia for the tutorials - someone posted a link at SCF on another forum - this link was to an older version of Camtasia that is now, unfortunately, no longer available. It's fantastic software though.

2 x 4 Crate Tutorial
Yes, another one - done very quickly - just trying to keep the students on track - again, if anyone knows where I can post these at higher resolution, please let me know - thank you.
Happy Sketching,

3 Inch Cube - From 0.22 in. Thick Foam
Hello,
Here's a tutorial I made that is for "total newbs" . . . we made these cubes (as posted previously on another SCF forum) out of 0.22 inch thick pink foam insulation. When finished properly, the cube measures 3 x 3 x 3.
We make the foam cube, then follow up with the SkechUp cube. It's only the third full day of class this semester - eventually, they'll get it.
I still have no idea where to post full size videos and I'm puzzled that Camtasia chopped off the last part of this video where I move the sides in place and copy to finish the cube. User error, I'm sure.
Hope this helps someone.
Happy Sketching,
Brad

RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
I'd really like to do lots more new stuff but I'm back at work and doing grad school stuff - frustrating, but here's a quick modification of an older sketch.
I keep having ideas popping into my head for new designs but who can justify the time to play . . . er, I mean design the stuff? Arggghhhh!

Coffee Table Tutorial
Hello,
This is a bit too fast - just playin' around.
I'd like to know where I can post videos that won't get reduced to a smaller size.
Thanks,
Brad

nice work on the 3 wheeler i like how the side twists like that
Thanks - I'd like to redo the area around the front wheels - remove the groove and make it a bit more realistic, like a real wheel well - someday.

BTW is that you in your avatar?
Yes, that's me - about 79 months ago.

RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
I just sent V-Ray an email inquiry - looks like the educational version is $250. If it's worth it I'll be happy to spend the bucks - I just know very little about this stuff and I don't want to spend government money on something that's really not necessary or best value.
We lease many seats of 3DS at school but I don't know how to use it - would that work well for our rendering needs? Doesn't Blender also do rendering? I need to figure out what options are available and how they compare in price & performance. Maybe someone has created a current matrix showing this information?
Thanks,
Brad

back end
VERY NICE!!!
I will look into vray - I guess there is a forum or some links - I know almost nothing about rendering software - is one higher recommended than the other (Kerkythea vs. vray)?
Danke,
Brad

RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
WOW! I wish I knew how to do that - way cool! You make my stuff look great - thanks! I will try to figure out more of Kerkythea - very inspirational.
Thanks again,

RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
Thanks - here ya go.
They're really sloppy - for example, the geometry on the "electric car" is messed up around the front wheels - I wasn't paying attention to details or consistent geometry but rather just trying to quickly jot down an idea. Also, on the "electric car", I used SketchyFFD for some shaping - I find it's usually quicker to do shaping manually - I prefer to have more control where FFD quite often wreaks havoc with the integrity of the geometry requiring lots of time to "fix" stuff so it'll be symmetrical, & so forth. It's fun to take this one and stretch the shapes to come up with wildly different looking cars (see image(s) attached below).
I think the last car has the potential for detailing - it could be "okay" I guess - just a quick concept.

RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
If you look at the low number of poly's in this model you can get an idea how fast it was created & edited . . . just another quick sketch . . .
