Sketchup to modo
Is anyone interested in seeing/creating a sketchup to modo workflow tutorial?
edit: sorry, posted in the wrong forum. apologies.

RE: Google SketchUp User Happiness Survey
I have no idea of anything even close to programming, but If google could make the SU base code as a 'template' which could accommodate all the great plugin developers, I feel like a lot of people could get more out of SU. I know the Ruby masters could develop great UV and other modeling features (bend!) if the underlying architecture allowed for it. That way, the program could be both a basic modeler for GE and its more sophisticated users.
if that never happens, the SU to Modo work flow works pretty well. Modo is great, its just not sketchup.

the ruby masters make me realize how amazing a program sketchup can/should be. THis addition is awsome!

RE: Rhino or Modo?
the learning curve is harder than sketchup for sure. but once you start to get into it, its seems to be pretty logical in its set up. It took me about a month (on and off) of fiddling with tutorials and watching videos to get the basics. But again, i'm a modeling newb. As you get more and more into the features, i realize how much it has to offer, and how much i have yet to learn. this can be daunting but fun. I'm trying to use it on a project right now, and am working out kinks between block ins in SU and detailing, rendering in modo. It might not work this time around, so I have VFSU as a back up. but i would recommend it so far. i know very little about rhino so i can't compare. I've used VFSU quite a bit and love it!
good luck.

RE: Rhino or Modo?
i'm not sure how experienced of a modeler you are, but i'm a relative newb to modeling and am working with both sketchup and modo. modo is both exciting and frustrating at the same time. its so much more powerful than sketchup, but then at the same time, some of the simplicity its is reported to have seems to elude me

RE: Modo 401 coming!
skp import works fine more me. obj import from sketchup is doing weird things on my mac though.

RE: [Plugin] Random Painter (Updated March 9th, 09)
that is really cool. its like making procedural textures in modo or lightwave!

RE: Modo 401 coming!
cool! thanks. i realized the inactive mesh thing right after I posted. thanks again.
one thing i've noticed, is after i import something as simple as a box, i cant edge bevel. the polygons fall apart. is there something that needs to be done in sketchup pre-export?
thanks again.

RE: Modo 401 coming!
hey guys,
I'm trying to figure out this pipeline also. When i export from sketchup as an obj. and import to modo all i get is a wire frame with no polygons. how do you get the import correct? the skp. importer gives me all triangulated faces which i can't stand!
thanks

RE: Sketchup to Modo Camera Match Ruby
this is awsome. thanks

RE: It's Incredible!
i presonally would love to see your SubDivision tutorial! It would be a huge help.
amazing stuff!
i have to say, i've been learning modo, and while it has a lot of great stuff, there is something about sketchup that is so much fun.

RE: Ruby script matte for photoshop
alpha masks would be HUGE addition. I am constantly needing to separate my content after a vray render and have to make sloppy selections in photoshop. I second plot-paris's request / suggestion!

RE: [Obsolete] FredoScale 1.0e (Free Scaling, Taper Scaling)
phenomenal tool. works perfectly on my windows machine. same issue as kannonbal on my mac.
i'm amazed at how intuitive and simple such a great tool can me made. I absolutely love the little green check mark!! such a great idea. This will make SDS proxies so much easier! thanks!

RE: Help from coders needed
those tools would be another huge addition to sketchup....
solo, one of these days could you elaborate on how you do detail manipulation with the available tools? i've seen some of your past threads on it, but for some reason I just don't get it!

RE: Digital Watercolor cont...
that is really cool. i love the watercolor effect. very pretty. did you paint it or use a program to create the effect?
i would say maybe bring up a cooler blue in the shadows, considering it looks to be a clear/blue day and based on the shadows it is either earlier or later than noon. also a bit more value separation between the foreground and subject might frame it a little more distinctly.
