    • Intersect faces / slicing... can't do the job

      Hi folks,

I'm making a road design and I am at the beginning of my model.
I have trouble with the intersect-faces tool.
Sketchup won't cut all the road marks (Sketchup cuts it, but somehow the lines are not closed).
It is a hell of a job to fix each mark.
      See images and 3D-model below.
      Can someone help me?
      Thanks in advance!

    • Shadows on a pure white background

      Hello guys,

      I have a question.
I want to create a 100% pure white background with shadows under the model.
You can see that the background is pure white. I've unchecked 'affect background' and made the background pure white in the environment settings.
I've tried to make a 'infinite plane' but it turns out bluesish/greyish all the time.
Maybe there is an option to make the 'infinite plane' 100% clear?

      I didn't find a solution on the internet 😞

    • Strange light spots in my render

      Hello,

      I'm making a fly-through vray animation.
When I render the frames, something weird is going on in my renders.

At some edges of the model, strange lights spots are showing up at some frames.
I thought it was because of tall the groups/compontents that are placed together. I explode them all, nothing changes.
It does not have to be perfect, but does strange spots are anoying.
      Whats the problem?

      I fixed it!!!!

next to the 'reflection/refraction (background)' option, i've set the number to 1 (instead of 10).

Well I didn't really understand your problem at first but I'm starting to think I do now...

You mean the jagged/stepped edge around the model?

It has to do with GPU display + Antialiasing + probably backface color.

Use a white backface color (background color) and it gets better (it is better with grey background).

Use better settings for displaying Sketchup under your GPU settings (I have a NVidia Titan X and still had to do that for it to display nicer edges). If you push settings to maximum detail (and lesser performance) you'll correct that on screen. There are advanced details you can configure by software too. Mess with antialiasing there...

If that is not a printscreen but an export, you should check if antialiasing is active on raster export options. If that doesn't solve it, increase resolution to something like double, and then shrink the image to the final size.

      Thanks for your reply.
      It's a render indeed, not a printscreen.
Antialisasing is active with a catmull-rom filter. There is the problem, this filter creates those outlines around my model.
If i choose another AA-filter, it gets to blurry. I really like the catmull-rom filter.
Is there a way to get rid off the black outlines and still use the catmull-rom filter?

I tried to shrink the image (to 50% and 25%), but you can still see the black outlines very good.

Maybe there is an another trick?

    • Pure white background but black line around model (help)

      Hello guys,

I want to render a model with a pure white background.
In the Environment-settings I set the background color to 255,255,255.
In the Color mapping menu I unchecked the "affect background" option.
I used the catmull-rom filter in the anti-aliasing settings, because I like the sharpness.
If I do that, the background is white, but the model itself has a small black border.
Without unchecking the affect background color, the background turns out grey, but no black lines.

What can I do to create a white background, with the catmull-rom filter but without the black line bordering my model?

      Thanks!

    • Vray material for a wooden beam (help?)

      Hi guys,

I made a high poly model of a wooden beam with a rope around it.
I want to make a close-up of it with vray.

      Download:
      https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8zJtNz88Nk9VU84SEwxbTZvbVk/view?usp=sharing

The problem is that I can't make the textures (positioning and adjusting the material for vray).
The wood has to have a vintage look, with a luxurious feel. Maybe Oak or Teak wood-like.
The texture I used is not the texture I want by the way, consider it work in progress.

Maybe someone could help me? I'm not an expert at this.
      Would be awesome!

      Regards,

      Frank

Hello Frank, welcome to the forum. Instead of modeling the rope as you have, use a texture instead.

      [attachment=0:rmt1woiu]<!-- ia0 -->rope.JPG<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:rmt1woiu]

Use TIG's Pipe Along Path ruby to model the rope.

      John

Thanks John for your answer and sorry for my late answer (work πŸ˜’ ). And also for the other people who helped me; thanks a lot! πŸ˜›
I could manage to fix the rope with a texture.
I managed to make a rope around the surface with the Helix Along Curve plugin.

      This is the result:
      https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8zJtNz88Nk9VU84SEwxbTZvbVk/view?usp=sharing

It is a big file (260 mb), but it's okay for now.

I'm not so happy with the texture of the wood, it needs work. The top isn't okay and it has to be vray-render ready. Maybe a guyt from the vray-section can help me with this.

    • Req: challenge, wooden beam with ropes

      Hello Sketchup-fanatics,

I have been working (for a long time) on a old wooden beam that I want to place in a living room in order to make a vray-render.
I've managed to draw a rough wooden beam. My wish is to have rope wrapped around the wooden beam. Unfortunately, I can't manage because of the rough surface. I have troubles with the rope, I don't know how to wrap it aroud the surface and also don't know how to tie the ends of the rope together.
Second problem is the texture for the beam. It's not good enough as it is.

You can download my model here:
      http://mobadvies.nl/Wooden%20beam%20ropes.skp

It is high-poly, because I want to use it as a close up for a vray-render.
In the model you see an image of a beam as an example of how I want the wood to look.

I would be more than happy if someone would help me or draw it for me!

      Greetings from the Netherlands,

      Frank
