Looks really cool. If only I could draw better, or at all.

RE: [Plugin] Contour Lines (Didier Bur)
Thanks. I'll look into those. Been needing a good pipe tool. Sketchup work around here is slow so it just wasn't on the top of the list.

RE: [Plugin] Contour Lines (Didier Bur)
What plugin did you use to do the piping on the pyramid?

RE: Autodesk 123D
I also just tried it. Really clunky on my machine. I think it needs more horsepower than I have. I'm currently on a mid range pc. It did seem to have a lot of nice features though. As was stated previously in the post 'Inventor LT' is exactly what I would call it too.

RE: Autodesk 123D
Just took a look at the facebook page. Looks like it's aimed at the Maker Faire crowd. Could be a cool app/program, but I don't think its a autodesk plot to destroy Sketchup. Yet......

Autodesk 123D
Anyone know about this program called 123D from Autode$k? Perhaps their answer to Sketchup?

RE: Help with landscaping components
Have you looked into Daniel Tal's book? Some of the examples look to be about the same scale you might be dealing with.

RE: Valiarchitects - plugins
Chuck:
First of all great work, I will be buying all three in the near future.
Do you plan on updating the scripts with more features, and if so how long before a new purchase would be required.

RE: Need to reinstall SU7
thank you. I'll be burning that to disk from now on.

Need to reinstall SU7
Where do I find a copy of SU7 Pro now that 8 is out? I need to reinstall on a machine I reformatted.

RE: SketchUP 8
I'll play devils advocate for just a second here. I'm very unimpressed/disappointed with SU development too..but..
Has anyone tried getting Maxon or Autodesk or Modo or any other giant modeler to add features like inferenceing or snaps or basic usable real world units? I bet you won't get very far with them either.
SU's future development is crystal clear as far as I'm concerned. Someone said earlier "google earth plugin", and I couldn't agree more. Until one of the other companies decides there is enough revenue to be generated by adding some SU like tools into their product line we are stuck with SU as it currently is.
Better learn to love it as is. Its not going anywhere.

RE: Accuracy of Version 8 3d Surfaces
The area I live in has been bumped up significantly, it's something now that is actually usable in a model now. Still unsure as to what resolution it is.

Accuracy of Version 8 3d Surfaces
As they stated Google did in fact increase the accuracy of the 3d terrains from google earth. Anyone know by how much?

RE: SketchUP 8
Found it. It's the usual 95.00 to upgrade.
Really gonna give this some serious thought google. Not impressed with the last 4 years of development.

RE: High School Animation
When you say "2 months to complete". Was that just your time, or were others involved? 40, 50 or 60 hour weeks?
I'm always floored at bosses and clients that think these types of thing take a couple of days.
Well done. Congrats

RE: Sketchup is broken
Is this the beginning of the end of SU for the power users due to Googles unwillingness to develop it? This has been a real pet peeve of mine for quite a while now.

RE: AutoCAD Freestyle
Reminds me of those off the shelf 'design your dreamhome' boxed softwares that Bestbuy and Hastings sells.
-
RE: AutoCAD Freestyle
I don't think so. Looks like this is Autodesk's attempt to get software into the homeowners market, especially given the price of it. If it were for the professionals it would easily be 50x the price and only available with subscription. (no exaggeration)
Impression is only available with certain 'pro' products and then only if you are on subscription. My own personal experience with Impression was miserable. Unbelievably slow and bloated, then half way thru the job the Impression file corrupted with no reason or way to recover. It certainly left an Impression.

RE: Newbie: Furniture project SU best practices?
@dadoing said:
I've been struggling up the initial learning curve with Sketchup. I've decided to bear down and learn SU properly by drawing an endtable plan.
What is the best way to organize the Sketchup file for the main components of the endtable? Scenes? Layers? That's the part I can't seem to grasp. It makes sense to me to draw the six faces of the endtable in six different sub-places of the SU file, rather than all in one 3D image space. Would that be six scenes? Each face of course has different cabinet sub-components, too. Any pointers to get me learning in the right direction?
Sorry for hijacking the thread, back to your problem.
Some really great learning resources for the basics of sketchup are:
- the guys over at Go-2-School have tons of beginning sketchup vids and
- Googles youtube channel devoted to sketchup
Those 2 sources are where I got my sketchup start (and of course the SCF community)
for furniture related Sketchup there are:
- Finewoodworkings blog Design Click Build and
- Popular woodworking has a new cd out all about skektchup (its not free and I have not seen it so I can't comment on it)
I'm sure there are dozens of others in both categories but those are what I have used in the past
