RE: SketchUp Junior Forums beta test
I like this idea...
My boys (twins) just turned 6 this week, and they've modeled in SU since they were 3yrs old... and love it. "I'm going to work on my model now, dad... ok?!"
I'd like to sign up my boys so they can post some of their work for their peers. Personally, I like their earlier work when they were freer and less self-critical/self-consious. I never critique their work, I just let them go... but seems like they were just more 'free and wild' when they were 3.

RE: This could have been the future of sketchup?....
Since Viz is now officially dead, and 3DSMax Design also claims photorealistic realtime views... am anxious to see it, but it will be a month before the beta comes out.
But as KB's video link shows... Revit is indeed where our firm will probably need to go.
bye bye SU, loved ya.

Mile long Animation
video deleted for many reasons... sorry!
I learned from a tutorial (I believe it was by our friend Paul Russman) that one wants to export animations from SU at TWICE the final size, this way you get nice thin edge lines. This was always the key I was missing to decent anim. export from SU. wish we could define the thickness for our edges... hopefully in SU7?!
This was a very good tip... and helped immensely, as our first export was without this technique and the client did not like it.
I created my own skydome component for SU and a vast seamless treeline ring. This way, hope you can see it, but the sky and trees are independant, but render very quickly... this gives some depth.

3D Photography... is this the next digi camera you will buy?
Check this out... the next .jpg could have the Depth Map built-in!
http://www.news.com/8301-13580_3-9874436-39.html?part=rss&subj=news&tag=2547-1_3-0-20
Seems like a short step, IMHO, to also add an initial depth sensor that would tell the camera the exact initial distance to the subject. It already knows the FOV, etc... so it wouldn't take much, I would think, to be able to have a camera that takes a single photograph but allows you get have a 3D model instantaneously from that photograph!
That would take SketchUp's photomatch to a whole new level. Sweeeeeet.

Hi Pilou,
you can´t push or move this bike using the section cut method.
But you can beam it up.
This is the skp-file:

RE: Custom model library
Here's a great text description tutorial by Frolfer12, and a link to the video tutorial for watching it directly.

est-ce que ca peut servir pour, disons, ouvrir une porte? Ou seulement pour bouger un objet d'ici-la?

RE: Custom model library
Hi Juju and Greyhead...
well, it's not so simple... but something like Greyhead said.I'm hoping Kim Fredrik will make a quick tut. for how to create your own model pulldown in KT. I can't do it now.

RE: [Plugin] Set North in Free version
Yes you do, Jim, you rock!
Thanks to you too, Didier! (for like the 100th time...) What would we do without you? -
RE: Sketchup 7?
remus, just check the correct radio button when you import the .jpg.
or, you can drag and drop the jpg right onto a piece of geometry in your model.perhaps it's time to watch all the video tutorials again... you'll be surprised what you missed in there the first few times...

What does that last phrase "aggregate" mean?
Aggregate means they don't want anyone but themselves having the right to create and sell or give away 'packages' of content. ("Vegetation package", "Best of GW3D Furniture Content", etc.) Most likely someone could benefit by selling CDs of packaged content from the Google warehouse.

RE: [Plugin] SUTool: a new way to manager your RB script
ok, Wikii, thx!
got a screenshot of the exact place/way I would do this? (I'm no programmer! ) -
RE: [Plugin] SUTool: a new way to manager your RB script
ok... don't hate me!
I started loading my rubies...1st - Jim, there's an easier way that Wikki provided for us to create new menu items instead of manually creating the ini file, you just add new ruby and give the new menu group item a name. I really like it! Maybe just add that in your tut.?
2nd - Wikki, when a name is very long for the ruby script description, the box cuts off the name of the file... so you almost can't tell what it is in some cases. If possible, do you think in the future you will be able to make it so that when you re-size the window it will also re-size the rectangles to show the whole ruby name?

RE: [Plugin] SUTool: a new way to manager your RB script
Hi Wikki, that worked... and I could have SWORN I tried that very thing last night, but it didn't work.
Jim, you're tutorial was the perfect thing for a guy like me! Blessings upon you a thousand times!

at the risk of getting off-topic here, I will just say that I will now have to post (for your view pleasure, xrok, the animation I will finish before noon tomorrow using only SU.
