    • RE: Cutting up a model for 3D printing

If slicing it in 4 parts it is what you are up to. Just place one horizontal rectangle and one vertical rectangle in the positions you want, then intersect the model with them. Then select each piece and make it a group. Make sure to draw a line int the corners to close the sections. It is possible because of the smaller segments to have open faces. Check the plugins for a Solid solver or something.

    • RE: Toolbars Not stacking 2015

I believe that happens because the Drawing toolbar takes two spaces/columns. Try narrowing that to one space/column and then I think it will work.
If you still want to keep it that way, then customize the Views toolbar by inserting the Sections icons to it. http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/95452

Id love to have a plugin that flattens and leaves you with dxfs bit like the last steps of slicer..

That is the easiest part.Having them laid flat and arranged is the hardest.
After you have exploded all the arranged components/groups, go to parallel view then choose the Side view, then pick the selection tool and select the lower part of your geometry(select from right to left) then press "Delete".
Then go to Styles/Edit/Faces settings and choose the wireframe mode. Now select all the edges you see and make a group out of them. Now move that group away and bring back the "shaded with textures" mode and delete the rest of the geometry remained. This should be it. If you have different lines for engraving you should place them on a different layer.

PS The nasty thing about Component onto faces is that it does that only with one component at a time. Imagine running the plugin for over 50-100 times...

    • RE: Flattening and nesting components

I do it manually. For toys though, and much complicated shapes.
After I lay them flat and keep only the contours my client is regenerating the contours in Coreldraw to have closed vectors and from there you just have to run the files trough a code generator.
I wish there should be a plugin that do this automatically !
One thing that could help you a bit is Component onto faces plugin. This will lay a component flat onto a face, accordingly to its axis. It helps me when I have components rotated in all directions like the surface of this ship.

    • RE: Geometry size not consistent in SU 2015

Don't be bothered by that, Sketchup has its limits. Just be aware of them. The more you get into it the more you will be surprised(in worse)-especially when working with that much precision and small objects.

PS Make the habit of purging your model. There are plenty of components in the model that perhaps you don't want to share with everybody.

    • RE: "Exception Thrown In Destructor" error msg

Yesterday I searched the web a bit and it seems like your error is not directly related to Sketchup but mostly to VisualC ++ perhaps from here's the name vctools... https://www.google.ro/?gws_rd=cr,ssl%26amp;ei=Vfh3VY6QI8rB7Abh_YGIDA#q=vc7libs
Whenever you have an error or something just google it, you will be surprised.
I am usually not worrying about these errors, they come and go.
I have a little program called CCleaner and I run it from time to time fixing registry and cleaning temporary files, you should try it.

Steve, you'd better contact the plugin's author, you might get too many destroyed objects in your PC and you never know what wrong objects will follow next, maybe your room ๐Ÿ˜ฎ .

Just kidding, the explanation kind of made my day(I know it is a serious thing though) ! ๐Ÿ‘

Can you make the bump map of the texture negative ? Scratches in wood are plausible, but bumps in wood are not.

I love your completely inaccurate style... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks ! Near the first ones this is really lame. The braiding is loose and not even braided in most of the places. But from a distance that is already invisible.

      @pilou said:

You have not made only the half / Z ?

With braided stuff it is not possible to cut the component in half. The legs and the sides are a component but the braiding is entire.

      Thanks guys !
Coming to this one the other ones seemed easy. I just stopped doing it like the reality because it is "impossible" in sketchup. Don't look at the details because they are completely inaccurate. It is already 26 MB .
