could they be grouped? try clicking twice on the whole thing.

i surely think it is! doubling your RAM has to have some effect on your machine.

RE: Newbie with Mac Questions
hi yuri,
as a fellow mac user i know exactly what you feel. i started using SU in my eMac (32 Mb graphics card). just imagine how slow that was. after that i bought an iMac intel with 3Mb RAM and a 128 Mb card (i was stupid enough to overlook the possibility of buying one with a 256 Mb card). of course, things improved enormously but not to the point of handling any file.
quite recently i got a macbook pro with 4Mb RAM and a 256 Mb graphics card. it runs very well but, to tell you the truth, there was no noticeable change from the imac.
all this to tell you two things: the only machine that would handle anything would be the mammoth mac pro but who needs a bazooka to kill a bird? the other is: james is right, one has to resort to some strategies to keep the file manageable. one useful thread is this one on the use of layers.

RE: Adjust a Section Plane
btw, what do you use to get the ripped off look to your images posted here?
-
RE: Adjust a Section Plane
if you make your building into a group, edit the group and then place the section plane it will have its width restricted to the width of the building. if you do not do that the section will be as wide as your model.
i suggest you watch these two very good videos on sections, one by go-2-school, the other by aidan chopra. and there are two more by chopra here.
have fun.

RE: Adjust a Section Plane
i am not sure i get what you want to do. if you raise the section plane you will see more of the roof and less of the plan. maybe you have to work with 2 section planes.
please elaborate on your description. perhaps a sketch would help.

RE: Couch needed
mateo,
i have seen this one on 3DW. it is great but too big for the space i am planning. what i need is a plain 3-seater, very much like the part of your sofa i singled out in the pict but with arms on both sides.

RE: Minotti sofa
i accidently posted a reply here that was meant to be posted there.

RE: How to do mirror, extend, line offset, etc.?
there have been at least 3 threads on mirroring. i would suggest you use mirror.rb (a ruby script) for that. and check this thread for a good explanation on how to use it.

RE: MAC???
hi will,
sorry to disagree with you. you must be one of the first persons to complain about something that is the mac's trademark: its user-friendly interface. you must have started on a wrong foot with it.
if you do not like animations just turn them off. the Finder is one of the easiest interfaces to work with I know! the students who work with me learn to use it in an afternoon so you should be able to learn it too. probably no one was kind enough to show you the way.
and finally, why would anyone switch to mac and not go all the way? why try working on a mac as if you were still on a pc? autocad files can easily be imported by all mac cad apps. moving to mac is to move away from autocad, as they do not offer a mac version. which is ok, too, as autocad is a lousy piece of software.
virtual pc is really slow. however, parallel and bootcamp are almost perfect and allow you to run a mac like a pc, strange as it may seem.
regards.

RE: MAC???
mike just said what I should have about the pc to mac transition. it is that simple and that great an experience.
mike, since you install and uninstall a lot, do you know of a shareware called appzapper? check it out as it is very useful: it gathers all files related to an app that you wish to get rid of and does the job for you. a kind of cyber-hit man.
cheers.

RE: MAC???
I switched to mac 12 years ago, when doing so in South America was seen as suicidal (no support, very few applications ported to mac, etc). never looked back since then. switching today when macs can even run windows is a real piece of cake.

RE: PROBLEM W/ INTERSECTING ROOF PLANES
could you be more clear as to what you want to do with those shapes? a sketch of the intended roof would help.
you may be having difficulty pushpulling the faces at an angle, try the pushpull_tool.rb script. it will allow you to PP in any direction.

RE: PROBLEM W/ INTERSECTING ROOF PLANES
there is a good tutorial (video #6) on roofs using the follow me tool at http://go-2-school.com/

RE: Here's a little bush...
thanks for sharing your bush with us, tom. and I have immediate use for it!
(no pun intended at the beginning. then I realized the double meaning, had a laugh and decided to keep it. hope you do not put me on probation, as I am not a native english speaker)

RE: Preparing for SmustardOrganizer script
@unknownuser said:
NOTE: There have been some issues reported with using this on Mac, so until they are resolved, this (unfortunately) is for PC only, for now. I will post a revised version when it works on Mac
this is what i referred to in my other posting. from this i assumed one has to wait for a mac version.

What error message(s) do you get?
i am assuming this question was directed to me.
well, actually i have not bought it yet. i read somewhere (probably in smustard) a statement that led me to believe some testing was going to be done before announcing that the script runs well on macs. i apologize if understood it wrong.
thanks.

would you please let us mac users know when the mac version is working?
