RE: Arched windows in a dome...
Thanks Dale,
I do want the windows to be on the surface of the dome, not a dormer. Also, what happens if there is thickness to the dome wall?
Enquiring minds want to know.

Arched windows in a dome...
Hey,
What's the easiest way to cut a series of arched windows into a dome?
Thx.

RE: Getting into Design(Architectural)
You are choosing to enter a very competitive field.
My suggestion is finish highschool - it will open a lot more doors for you.

RE: Render or Real?
Considering how everything sits unnaturally 'on' the ground I say it is a render -

Great shots DE. What does it take to do something like this? Besides the artistic ability... What programs, is some of the work composite or CG? HDR? ?
I cannot help but notice some irony on the boat. It is tied up as if it might float away though it looks incapable of floating. It looks broken and old but there's some fancy radar (?) on it.
The reflections on the water and deck are beautiful.
Thanks pbacot...
The boat is just sitting there rotting and I was also struck by the modern 'radar' on top. I am trying to find a 'visual-voice' for my photography by creating scenes that inspire the viewer to think about what is happening or has happened - not just pretty postcards.
As far as process goes I look at each photo as a separate set of challenges. For example I wanted the boat to look more like a classical painting and the car was a bit of an experiment.
Glad you like them.
cheers,

Hey nomeradona,
Very nice shot... I guess I need to visit Vietnam.
Got a new camera a few days ago. SONY A350.
I'm taking the photography quite seriously now and it's starting to pay off.

Nice memories from last year...
Couldn't you fill in "Registered Private Enterprise Miguel Lescano"? All they want to know if there is a reason for you to go home after you're done with your business in the US.
What they want to be sure of is that you will not work illegally in any capacity while you are in the U.S. (read as steal a job from someone.)
A freelance/self employed status freaks them out.
All you need to do is show that you are employed and don't volunteer any info other than answering specific questions. Travel to the U.S these days is a nightmare. -
RE: Independent Architects: are you Self employed or NA?
You should indicate that you are 'Employed' in your native country. Do not say self-employed or NA.
A photographer friend of mine was recently refused entry because he said self-employed (they consider this un-employed) and U.S. Immigration denied him because he could work illegally.
This has also happened to other freelance people I know.
It also does not matter if you have a visa - the immigration officer can turn you back at point of entry.
It's not efficiency - it is paranoia.

RE: Professional Courtesy for 3D Warehouse Models
I've read hundreds of clearance/standards and practices reports over the years and apparently there are circumstances where the two overlap. I'm not really interested in debating the legal aspects of this, I was merely trying to point out that, in fact, the guy who is so incensed about not receiving just recognition has actually place himself in a situation where SEIKO could make him remove the model... unless, of course, he has permission.
It is all a slippery slope. -

Contravening a patent with a model would be quite hard, i would have thought. Although i agree with the copyright.
A patent can also refer to a registered trademark such as the word SEIKO.
-
RE: Professional Courtesy for 3D Warehouse Models
When it all shakes down, since the watch is not his original design - John has probably contravened the patent and copyrights held by Seiko.

I disagree DE. Presumably he's offering some sort of rendering/modelling service, so i think to not credit the model is a quite deceptive really.
Having said that he's well within his rights to do so. I think it just comes down to good manners in the end.
Schreider, personally i'd lighten the tone a bit. After all your asking him to do you a favour, although i'm sure it doesnt feel like it
Hey Remus,
Recent threads have clearly demonstrated how many people do not understand the implications of copyright.
While I agree that it is professional courtesy to acknowledge the designer, that is at the users discretion in this case. If you are a designer who is trying to build a reputation and offer designs on 3D Warehouse as a means to gain exposure, well, that is the price you pay. As far as altering a design, I'm not sure what the rules are, however, unless someone is willing to go after a person for changing a watch from silver to gold, or the hardware on a piece of furniture, for example, difficult to enforce.
If someone uses twenty, thirty or more 3DW components as part of a design, is that person expected to credit all the model makers?
There are always people who find a way to abuse a service, and I would guess that if Google was made aware of serious abuse they would take action, but, in this case I think the choice of credit lies with the user.

RE: Professional Courtesy for 3D Warehouse Models
The fact that you chose to post a model to the 3D Warehouse means that, in fact, you offered it to be used as free 'clipart'. To expect someone to 'credit' you each time it is used is unrealistic and a bit naive.

- but after the reception Ive gotten - being called a fraud a liar and other profane things --having to prove I am what I say I am - which you probably wont believe regardless of the proof I provided above, I think its in my best interest to leave the self righteous to their own devices and move on. I'll figure out sketchup on my own. Just like I have with everything else, and figure out controlling it by trial and error. I'm also not going to apologize for asking for a push in the right direction as far as thats concerned either.
Hey Chris,
You offered to provide 'proof' that you are actually who you say you are and then when I take you up on the offer, you use it as an opportunity to attack me. I have not posted any derogatory comments and yet you treat me with the same contempt that you accuse others of exacting on you. You might want to think about that.On another note: If you decide to pursue your photo editing venture, you can post to the Digital Photo thread started by 'nomeradona' and we will be happy to offer any help we can.
Thanks for the 'vid', I applaud your courage and wish you well in your future endevours.
