    • RE: V-Ray Beta 1.6 Animation Export Location?

we don't render to a movie format, just images. I haven't tested animations much, but I believe that they should be working properly in the current beta release. Nomeradona made a nice little tutorial on setting up animations in V-Ray for Sketchup 1.49.01, it should be relevant for this 1.6 beta as well: http://sketchupvrayresources.blogspot.com/2011/08/tutorial-vray-sketchup-animation.html

jamesmentzos - What if you start a model from scratch, are you able to render a box or a scene made entirely from scratch? Perhaps it's an upgrade issue of some sort? Either way, please submit a bug report to our bug tracker: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=322&t=52366&start=30#p474506

    • RE: Vray too slow while rendering

if you can zip up the model, as well as any external files that are referenced (textures, cached map solutions, etc), and upload it to a place like google drive, soshare, or mediafire, someone might be able to track down the issue faster than just looking at screen shots.

make - SU 2013 should perform well with our 1.6 beta. Also, please be aware that we have dropped support for Tiger and Leopard. I believe we still support Snow Leopard and up, but I know we definitely support Lion and Mountain Lion, and plan on adding support for Mavericks when it is released.

I'd love to support per object animation, but I don't know how we are supposed to get the updated transform info, or work with this data at all. Anyone know how it works?

Vray beta is known to cause some issues - so it is best left unloaded until you need it, then load it temporarily for just that session...

AFTER SENDING US A BUG REPORT... don't just brush a bug under the rug, tell us about it, that's the entire point of having a public beta!

We don't use other plugins while developing our product, so there's no way we can know about conflicts unless users tell us about them. I am aware of an issue with RT interfering with the undo stack, but we shouldn't be doing anything that should cause a crash... that sounds bad. I do agree that it's a waste of resources to have a rendering plugin installed while you're modeling, but if you do have us enabled, we shouldn't be causing a crash like that. If you can give us any details about the plugin that is conflicting, we can try to contact the developer of that plugin and resolve whatever issue is causing the crash.

So Vray 1.6 doesen't work in Sketchup Pro 2013. Do I may have to wait? What I should do?

      Thanks.

We developed this beta, using the SketchUp 2013 Beta on one development machine, and SketchUp 8 on another. We should be 100% compatible with both versions.

    • RE: Vray 1.6 open beta

sounds like a faulty install. Be sure that SketchUp and XMLDRSpawner processes are not running when you try to install the 1.6 beta. Also be sure that the license server isn't running. DO NOT UNCHECK ANYTHING when installing the 1.6 beta, and if you are prompted to restart at any point during the installation, do so immediately, do not click "No" and continue the installation. After the restart you will need to run the installer again most likely, because Windows had to remove some files that were locked during the attempted uninstall process.

It was a SU observer bug. The Maxwell guys actually reported it before I was able to, but I did give them a high five for reporting it.

Anyone using the 1.6 beta want to change their answer to this poll? I see a lot of people mentioning bugs we fixed in this beta when talking about why they don't like V-Ray. Also... we're faster now.

no worries, I just wanted to stress the importance of it. In the past we have had a very confusing mix of feedback sources, which ended up wasting a lot of time. We want to really tear through this beta at the highest efficiency that we can.

    • RE: My first run of vray 1.6

.mat isn't V-Ray, it's 3D Studio Max only and has nothing to do with us at all. Until ASGvis made the vismat format, the only other way to move materials from one product to another, was by using the Chaos Group's vrscene format. As far as I know, that was only helpful if you were going to be using the V-Ray Standalone, and not other V-Ray plugins. The reason why there is a "standard"(layeredbrdf) and "v-ray" material, rather than just one, is mainly for compatability reasons. We could remove our layeredbrdf from the product completely, but then any scenes made prior to 1.6 wouldn't work at all, or would require an annoying upgrade process, as was required when upgrading from 1.05.30 to 1.49.01. Seeing as how the ported V-Ray material from V-Ray for 3D Studio Max, currently doesn't support all of the features that our layeredbrdf material does, we allow users to use the V-Ray material as a layer in our layeredbrdf.

I am working on a tutorial that will explain how to use Blender to make meshes. It will be up on the Chaos forums in the next day or so.

for a more light weight and simple solution, have you tried using something like MeshLab in conjunction with our ply2vrmesh converter?

    • RE: Problem with VRay crashing SU on Mac OS

Have either of you tried our 1.6 beta, or tried SketchUp 2013 (Make or Pro) that was released today? I can't recall if it was one of our bugs, or a SketchUp bug with their observer system, but I believe this may be resolved now. If you still have the issue with our beta, you can supply us with an example scene and a bug report (send an email to vfswip@chaosgroup.com), we could test it ourselves, or you could install those updates and try it yourself. Just as a heads up, we are rather busy at the moment with our beta, so I wouldn't expect a speedy result from us testing. However it is tested, if the end result is that a bug exists in our product, please let us know so we can have this resolved in our next public release!

    • RE: My first run of vray 1.6

The V-Ray Material is a port of the material that is available in Max. The "Standard" material is our LayeredBRDF material that we have traditionally used in V-Ray for SketchUp. You can also use a V-Ray Material as a layer in our Standard Material (confusing, I know). We allow this, because the V-Ray material itself does not support bump or displacement unfortunately. At least not at this time. When used as a layer in our Standard material, you can use bump/displacement as you normally would, but with the added benefit of using the V-Ray material.
