Great ideas and flattering feedback. I'm working on currency formatting right now, I don't think we should wait till version 2 to support non-US currency formatting. It seems there are a lot of folks on the other side of the ocean that want to use this in their workflow.
FYI, we are working on supporting non US number formatting and currency, hang in there world! Also, I should be pushing out an update today with a fix for CSV reporting on Windows.
This plugin actually required much of the functionality that was required for V-Ray for SketchUp. From the plugin side of things at least. I needed to be able to independently identify component instances, iterate faces to get area, tie in to the observer system to allow real-time interaction, create UI, etc. The only big difference is what data was being passed around, how it was formatted, and where the data was sent in the end. Also, if you want to get real technical, the HTML report is actually rendered by the browser
Yes, that is correct. This is a permanent license. User have expressed interest in a subscription, but that would require a different licensing system, which was not planned for version 1.
There should be a trial version available on the extension warehouse: https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/estimator-sketchup
Thanks for the support everyone. I look forward to working on the next version, but I really want as much feedback as I can get, so we can make sure that this tool can serve as an essential part of any builder's tool kit.
Hey everyone. I just published my first plugin since leaving Chaos Group and V-Ray. Check it out if you get a chance. It's an estimation/reporting extension called Estimator. It is available on the extension warehouse. Http://www.estimatorforsketchup.com
Let me know what you think!
sorry guys, I have nothing to report. I know there's some big stuff going on, but that's all I know.
those don't sound like issues that were in the latest service release. The V-Ray material information is stored in the material's attribute dictionary in xml format. Multi-Materials have the child material xml included with them.
I know I'm late to the game, but I am just seeing this now. I am wrapping up development of another extension, and will be ready to take up my next project soon. Are you still looking for a developer to make this for you?

Can't link to it, you have to log in to download it.
he says he has 16gb of ram in his previous post. Make sure you have a 64bit OS installed, and you are running SketchUp 2015 x64, or you're wasting your time.
oh, I just realized we don't have the changelog listed in the download section for each release... Well anyway, no, we didn't just update to 64bit and call it a day, there were issues that were addressed also.
We are always working on improving the experience. I can agree that VPN's aren't fantastic, if you're sending all traffic through them. Otherwise though, it's not a big hassle if you have a half decent IT guy around the office. I'm not suggesting you set up a VPN solely to run a V-Ray license server though, that's absurd. I merely mentioned it because it's extremely common in situations where you have employees that work from home.
If you are in a situation where you occasionally work from home (and need to be able to render), are unable to carry a dongle with you to and from the office, are unable to utilize a vpn to communicate with a central license server, are unable to expose a license server publicly, and unable to have a dongle for home and another for the office, then I would say the only option for your unique situation is a software based license, like the one we recently moved away from.
A google search isn't needed to know that our product is often pirated. We kick pirates off of this site quite frequently. I tip my hat to the competitors that were able to find a software based solution that worked for them. Being able to give a user instant access to the product, and the ability to instantly fix licensing issues is a great superpower to have.

As a customer, I'm particularly concerned a company is wiling to trade off hardship for their customer (dongle) to make things easier for themselves.
... interesting way to interpret what I said... Are you suggesting it's better to have a licensing system that requires users to call or email us to the point where we need to employ a small fleet of support staff? Our support email volume plummeted by at least 30% after switching to dongles... because they're easy, they're reliable, and require very little interaction with us. You can drop us a line if you want, but our goal was to make it so you wouldn't need to. If you're trying to link our dongle licensing, and the availability of pirated versions of our product, I'm afraid you're barking up the wrong tree there, we haven't noticed any spikes in piracy (we're watching ).
you have to have the nodes specified in the settings ahead of time. You can't add DR nodes to the list of nodes we look for, on the fly, but you can fire those nodes up on the fly and they will be included in the render process. Not sure if we re-check nodes after we are told they are busy though.
