      Klaus,

Custom profiles (based on a quarter definition of profile) is something that I have included in the code, but I would need to build a kind of GUI to activate it in the script.

      see http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323%26amp;t=20485%26amp;start=30#p172163

Thanks for your answer Fredo. A custom profile-option could come in handy when having situations like thick peripheral seams like on leather sofas or cushions made from 'heavy duty' textiles. It's very special though - might be to tricky to use in the end, if it has to many special options, conditions and constraints.

thx again for your phantastic work!

      Hello Fredo,

can't thank you enough for all your plugins!!! Donate folks!! At the end of the day
we will have to open our refrigerators door - isn't it?

      I have a question:

When inspecting the icons for 'RoundCorner' I stumbled upon one which is labeled 'CustomProfile'.

Using the fog with near and far distance set the same? (It is zoom dependent...)

that's almost perfect - if only it was to work vice versa.

the fog-function is going to clip away the background - If it was instead clipping
away the foreground it was absolutely what I was looking for.

Is someone out there, who could achieve this by writing a plugin ?

best regards and thx cotty for taking care

    • Intentional use of camera clipping plane

      hello everybody,

"clipping plane" in sketchup is mostly seen as an obsticle or bug introduced by open-gl.

I have a customer in the interior design business who switched (for kitchen planning) to sketchup and used another planning software before.

He was used to virtually walking around in the scene while the camera intentionally clipped away all obstructing geometry by a clipping funktion.

It works like a dynamic section plane mounted in front of the camera.

I told him to use the scene tabs and the section tool instead, or to hide and unhide objects between the scenes, but he insists, that if he was to fly through a tight interior design, as kitchens usually are, he must be able to spontaneously move through the scene, if a customer wants to see a special perspective.
He also doesn't like to work with the section plane tool very much.

Is there any plugin or could someone out there imagine such a plugin?

your hints, answers or tipps are welcome and much appreciated

      Thx in advance

    • What about procedural shaders/materials for SU 9?

What about procedural materials/shaders for the pro version?

at least for gras, sand, asphalt, concrete, tiles and stuff like that.
no more seams on greens and streets πŸ˜„

It could be an alternative to UV-mapping in many cases and todays procedural shaders are
capable of producing truly photorealistic materials. We could then share these
via 3d-warehouse. What about the 'darktree'-symbiont shader system or similar.

One more - > 'fog' is a nice feature, but 'real depth of field'
would be unprecedented. I'm not talking about photorealism, but this
would truly enhance 'style-builder'-shaded pictures as well.
If not possible to realize in realtime, it might as well be an 'after effekt'.

Alongside with this, SU should have a much better AntiAliasing,
when it comes to large pixel-exports, but also for the UI/workspace.
A very bright example is Michael Gibsons 'MoI3d.com' > MoI.
Perfectly antialiased lines even with low-cost grafic cards.
Please contact him for licensing or advice πŸ˜„

Its a very common workflow to set up your scene-cameras and
then start making screen-captures with one of the many apps you can
find around. 'The 'shots' are then put together to multipage-presentation
pdf-files on the fly via clipboard. I use 'Xara designer' by the way to
      accomplish this easily.
      That's why antialiasing counts.
Full HD resolutions (1900x1080) are high enough to let you produce
nice Prints up to DIN A3 formats.

if one 'sotospeak' could make the 2dtools work with
your 'work-planes' too? This would make it into something even more versatile.

This would in fact be quite redundant. The work planes are used in a similar manner to the 2D tools, as they create a "shield" to prevent the inferencing of the native tools to the geometry on the opposite side of the plane. You can draw directly on it as it's a locked group and delete it at will. The 2D tools do much the same except they are restricted to the X,Y axis for 2D drawing, but still allow you set the Z, which creates an invisble 2D work plane on that height. The work plane plugin allows similar restriction, only it's not restricted to X,Y only and it works with the native toolset. You could technically set a work plan on the x,y axis at a Z height and use the native tools to draw in restricted 2D. Using the 2D tools to go the other direction would negate them from being 2D at all.

      hello earthmover,
I came back to this task from one year ago, since I just searched the forum for my own entries on this issue.
You have to know, that I'm comming from the CAD-world with their 'sketch-planes' (solidworks and the like)
and it would come in handy in sketchup, if I could use the 'workplane command' like these too.
I would like to be able to constrain/project any points that I catch in 3d 'over' that workplane to the workplane.
Same like setting the z-elevation to zero or else with the 2d-tools..but to any given plane.
Only difference: projecting any snaps in 3d-space onto that plane in 'normal' direction.
If there's an option for this, please let me know. did'nt find it. best claude

hello TIG, thx for your 2d-toolset...I'm using it all the time and would'nt know how to get along without it.
But I have to second ThomThom with his question, if one 'sotospeak' could make the 2dtools work with
your 'work-planes' too? This would make it into something even more versatile.
You answered ThomThom with a link - I can't however figure out what you are pointing at.
If there's already a means to switch the 2dtools z-axis to any 'temporarily active one' please
      give me a hint.

thx a lot for the 2dtools and the 'workplane-plug' and all the other plugs as well

      Hello there,

I know i can lock the move tool to the axes by pressing the arrows, but when i have geometry around the element i want to move it kind of sticks to it or jumps to a far distance and often i cannot move it without entering a value to the distance box. I think a move tool that don't stick to the surrounding geometry and that let you move by planes (xy, xz, zy) would be very ..useful to editing the geometry.

About the Lambo, sure i'm gonna run SDS on it, when i finish it i maby post a topic on the Gallery forum;)

Did you try to move single vertices whilst keeping the 'alt'-button pressed? if not - give it a try.
(you may sometimes have to switch to wireframe-mode temporarily to have it snap to another vertex correctly)
      It works for me.

Am I missing something? There are 4 items you show on your first post that are blank on my toolbar. The icons for them are not even in the projection folder inside the zip file. I am confused.

Yes agree - I was just about to send the very same screenshot, since I'm also missing 4 icons.

anyway - thx a lot for your good work on this - absolutely amazing!
