It;s pronounced "FrAHnk -en STEEN" πŸ˜„

also Thx guys for the description and explanation on the differences between rendering packages--and such . .biased and unbiase, etc. I understood maybe 3/4 of it, but I am getting there. Hope to be a serious render geek πŸ€“ this year. Vive Podium Part Deux!!

What Stinkie is referring to is that reflection, opacity, light, etc will be applied to the material using a material editor instead of directly onto a surface. That would be much better as one can create materials like a specialized glass and save it for use on another project.

Wow! That will be terrific. πŸ‘ The idea of creating specialized materials rather than tweaking and experimaenting project to project will be great.

I know I am gonna get yelled at for this, but any idea on Dates?

    • Cutting holes in curved surfaces

I got an issue here. I am modeling this curved and battered wall for abuilding and I am trying to cut a window hole thru it and then use WINDOWIZER to fenstrate it. The first one is fairly simple by pushing a solid rectangle thru>>doing intersect with model and then erasing unwanted Geometry. the problem comes in trying to make rotated copies about the arc center point. the edges don't correspond well and therefore will not cut properly. i have fussed with this for a while and it seems laborious and unsuccessful. Any tips on a better way to accomplish this? See sketch attached>

      thx,

      David

you're probably right tho. I should reinstall. . .and Just load it to Google/google etc. Bite the bullet as it were. Then just copy all of the comps and plugins over.

Well, I like to install SU to the old @Last directory. It's kinda my way of being anti-google. But the pathing to all of the Subfolders and such is correct. Maybe I need to rethink this. But I think I have that covered. Thanks for the thought tho'.

    • Various Edge Colors

I am asking this for a colleague. . .Is there a way to ahve various Edge colors in a model. For example, he has an underlay plan from ACAD that he wants to show as one color of edges and his new SU model to be black.

    • OUtliner Help / Wish

I don't use outliner a lot, but Here's a question that I have always had. When I edit a group or a component, I use, and I am sure all of you do, "Hide rest of Model" etc. to edit. But sometimes when I edit a groups within groups or C's within C's it would be nice to see just the nested group that it is in and still keep the rest of the model hidden.
For example. House (root model) > Dormer (component) > Window (nested COmponent). If I edit the Window, and I want to see the dormer for context, but wish to hide the rest of the house. . .is there some click in outliner that lets me do that? Does someone have a ruby for this?
DO I make any sense here? πŸ˜’

    • Sandbox problems.

On my home license of SU I have lost my Sandbox tools. I get the "file Error Loading. . .sandbox.rb etc etc" at start up. I have put all of the files and tools and folders in the proper folders, etc, because I am replicating the folder on my version here at the office, but to no avail. Sandbox tools does not show up in the Extensions folder of the Prefs dialogue eitherAny ideas? Is there a script or file I need to look for that helps enable sandbox? I have installed and reinstalled SU6 as well.

      thx,

    • REctangle

is it possible for one of you Ruby Gurus to create an SU script that would draw a rectangle from a center point rather than corner to corner. I know Polygon does this as a 4 sided Poly but then you have to rotate it etc. thanks

    • RE: This could have been the future of sketchup?....

I don't post very much on this forum, I was actually browsing around for a plugin. .. and I fell upon this thread. I am sad to be reading these posts because it tells me that I am not the only one who has not been thrilled to ride the Google "owner ship". I have been an SU user since V2 and have loved it. It got me 3D modeling and away from ACAD. I went to the BaseCamp in Boulder and was blown away by all the stuff they were proposing for future versions. Layout ( or Grizzly) as it was called--which I never use-- notwithstanding. that being said, Phat Walls, and other scripts were pretty exciting stuff. But the innovation and development just havent come around. I TEACH SU for cryin' out loud and my students like it cuz they are doing 3D for the first time and they love it, and it's free but . ..I love SU. I love Podium but my work now is pushing meto toward MAX and VRAY. I am hearing that PODIUM 2 will rival VRAY. is this true TBD? Solo? Biebel?
Thanks to all of you ruby dudes and innovators who have made SU So much fun.

    • RE: Anti-SketchUp! Snobbery [or Ignorance?]

I think a lot of these Cad guys don't get the fact that in SU you can think so intuitively whereas in Revit or Archicad, you are having to "think" thru so much from the outset.--What kind of walls are they. Archicad and Revit are cool. I am all for BIMMing, as far as that goes, but With SU you can just dive in a draw. I like that.

By the way. ..That's my Dog. .. Phoebe the WonderHound!
